Download Sega Game Gear And TurboGrafx-16 Games To Your Nintendo 3DS

In addition to offering Gameboy and Gameboy Color titles, Nintendo’s Virtual Console service for the Nintendo 3DS will also include TurboGrafx-16 games and Sega Game Gear games, the company revealed today at the Game Developers Conference.

TurboGrafx-16 games are already offered on the Wii’s Virtual Console service. Nintendo didn’t announce whether prices for TurboGrafx-16 titles between the two services would vary.

Meanwhile, the Game Gear was Sega’s very first portable system, and five games from the system will be made available on the 3DS Virtual Console when the Nintendo 3DS eShop launches in May.

As reported previously, in addition to older games, certain “classics” will also be re-mastered in 3D for the Nintendo 3DS. However, no further details were provided on this front.

Game Gear titles, nice. I still have my old Game Gear and most of my games for it, unfortunately ever since I lent it to my sister it has pretty much stopped working altogether.

Why not just make the whole VC service available on both 3DS and Wii? Doesn’t sound like it would be too difficult. At the very worst, they might have trouble emulating N64 games, they could just leave those out.

      Leave N64 games out?

      But… But… Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon… Kirby 64 and it’s power combinations…

      • Code

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon ftw >w<~!

      • Kirby 64… ehhhh…

        • Testsubject909

Hey. I personally loved playing around with the power up combinations.

    • I don’t think the 3DS would have any trouble emulating N64 games.

I’d love that since I prefer handhelds, but I think Nintendo wants to keep the two separate so that each has something to offer to retro gamers thus you need to keep your Wii around and use it just as much as you need to keep your 3DS around and use it. I’m assuming NES is the exception because they are adding in 3D support (and thus another reason to double dip). I doubt the the GB/C, Game Gear, and TurboGrafx will be in 3D. But man, I would love to play SNES games on the 3DS~

  • No gameboy advance games? I though Nintendo would go the whole nine yards.

Still hoping they add GBA titles to the 3DS VC eventually. It should be easy enough to do.

    • Joanna

Yeah it would be very nice. I prefer physical media, but I would make an exception for some harder to find games.

So I’m guessing plans for T-16 on the PS3 got canned because of the Konami buyout?

    • What has Konami got to do with T-16 or the PS3?

      • godmars

They recently bought Hudson who own the T16. Closed Hudson’s US offices.

  • Please do Virtual Boy games in 3D. That is all.

  • Times like these have me wishing that Nintendo had a ‘real’ account based marketplace system ala XBLA or PSN.(Most notably PSOne Classics between PS3 and PSP) If I’m buying a TG16 title for the Wii VC, there’s really no reason I should have to buy the same title a second time. >=|

    • If I’m correct Club Nintendo kinda works as their PSN or XBLA

My favorite version of Columns was on the Game Gear. Oh man, I can hear the awesome music already.

  • Great news (my excitement was on twitter, which you can see if you follow me). Now having Neo Geo Pocket games would be next on the list.

  • capristrider

Shinobi (GG Shinobi) I would love to pick to up on 3DS (when I will eventually get my hands on one), woooooo! I remember playing this on my friend’s Game Gear, great gameplay and awesome music by the legendary Yuzo Koshiro!
