Neon Genesis Evangelion Manga Resumes In April

By Ishaan . March 5, 2011 . 12:06pm

Neon Genesis Evangelion has been around for a long time. Created by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, the manga series originally made its debut in December 1994 in Kadokawa Shoten’s Shounen Ace magazine.

Then, in 2009, Kadokawa moved Evangelion to a magazine aimed at an older demographic, Young Ace. Shortly thereafter, the series went on hiatus as Sadamoto stopped writing it to oversee other Evangelion projects.

Now, 14 months later, the Evangelion manga is making its return, according to a report at Anime News Network. Neon Genesis Evangelion will resume in the next issue of Young Age, which will be published on April 4th.

As far as U.S. releases of Neon Genesis Evangelion go, Viz Media published volume 12 of the series — the last published volume in Japan — in February.

  • Oh awesome, guess I will start back buying them. I love Evangelion to deaths, super phenomenally epically awesome series. but he should get back to working on the 3rd movie and the 4th movie please!

    • The reason he was on hiatus was because he was working on the third Rebuild movie.

      • Does that mean the third Rebuild movie is actually coming out this year?

        • That’s the idea.

        • I think the chances are pretty high.

        • My Asuka ;__; My lovely Asuka…

          • Ohh, movie 3 is going to be so great with badass pirate captain Asuka!! :D
And I hope Mari will have more backstory than in 2, in which she was just included because well, she’s awesome! xd

          • I don’t think Mari has a purpose in 2… Fight scene, landing off a parachute, fight scene. O_o I love meganekko, but they really need to do something about her character development. Now give us salvation with 3~

  • Be right back shedding a tear. I can’t believe this is happening.

  • Fraking finally? >_>

  • Guest

Didn’t the movie give away the ending anyway?
This would mean that the manga would be continuing just to wrap up the story… correct?

    • Maybe! Please? Unless some big lame excuse is given once again to push another decade before Evangelion is actually finished. Honestly, it would not surprise me if that happens.

  • DisgaeaGuy11

I’ve only watched the anime and I’m curious about somethint; didn’t Evangelion end with some sort of apocolypse? How can they continue, or is the manga compeletey diffirent and the anime just chose to end sooner with its own ending like many anime counterparts of mangas so often do?

    • You’re wrong. The anime was first (meaning the manga is an adaptation from the anime). But it was on hiatus a lot of times, so it has yet to finish. Either way, it doesn’t look like it’s going to end like the anime, and I highly recomend reading the manga if you liked the anime.

      • Well if one likes to constantly have to reread battle sequences, as they are extremely hard to follow…the epicness

        • Well, if you watched the anime, they are not that different, so you understand it pretty well.

  • Great news! Hate to let manga collections unfinished, now I can read my awesome Evangelion again~ xd

  • animefans12

Ah finally! Evangelion is resuming! :D

  • I bought the first few volumes, but I never focus on series that go on hiatus… This is one series I’d LOVE to see get finished finally! That, and Ah My Goddess, which is already over 20 years old >_> The pace is slow, but I guess Berserk fans get it worse…

  • gatotsu911

lolSadamoto. Keep working hard, eh? I wonder how it’ll end?

Actually, I don’t really care. If it’s not by Hideaki Anno it’s of little concern to me.

  • malek86

Cool, just the other days I was talking with some friends about how I didn’t like the manga version.

Gendo pulling an ATField out of thin air was definitely weird.

    • Bruce

O RLY ? … well, Nagisa said something about how every living creature possess an AT field . but it’s still weird though .

  • Guest

You mean Shinji can resume crying and screaming all over again? Sweet.

  • I thought the manga has already ended. How naive of me.

  • holyPaladin

    I love Sadamoto Art!

I hope this manga gonna be released soon because I need my Eva fix (while you at it, 3rd movie please)

  • PrinceHeir

    can’t wait for this :D

as well as the 3rd and 4th movie :P

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Who cares about THAT minor manga!
Clearly *ANYONE* who cares about Evangelion knows that the saccharine

ANGELIC DAYS is where’s its at~~!!!

Just look at REI SMILE! Say cheese! <3

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

      You sicko.

    • I’ll never get why the fans love Rei so much

      • Clearly Asuka is far more “interesting” and good looking! Not to mention Katsuragi-san, the sexy adult in the trio, and now we even have Mari(though she’s Rebuild only~). :P

        • I can understand not liking Asuka because she’s a tsun-tsun and a bi**h in general, but Rei… lacks personality… The character design was definitely nice, though

          • That’s what makes Asuka, Asuka. If she was more nice and more polite in her ways, she wouldn’t even interest me, I like how she is so annoying, yet still awesome at the same time. xD
I agree with the nice design on Rei, though. Some of her artworks are astounding~ x3

          • lostinblue

Thing is… She is supposed to lack personality and be a enabler for shinji/important pawn in the series. And she does just that, pretty well.

If you ask me the Rei business gets interesting when Rei 2 dies and Rei 3 comes into fruition. It gets really good, in the end, even if tbh they couldn’t push it further without character development.

Then again some characters only work with that aura about them, developing Rei, and addressing her situation, making her a normal integrated human being would ultimately be a waste of time

        • Surely you meant to say the awesome Shinji?

          • KyoyaHibari

Lol Shinji and awesome, 2 words that don’t go together unless “is not” is in the middle, Kaworu on the other hand, is one of the most delightfully sadistic, manipulative and coolest characters in an anime

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Neither do I, honestly. Something about submissive outspoken lethargic personalities and soft monotone voices being sexy? The implication that you can do whatever you want to her when making love (how boring)?

People really dig the “ice queen stereotype”… I think that was made popular by Rei?

        • Nah… It’s the after-effect of watching End. They probably fear what would happen if they didn’t like Rei or something like that.

          • I… I really like Rei!! I’m honest, I am!

      • I wonder if those same fans hate Angelic Days, considering how it ended…

  • Is this for real???

  • KyoyaHibari

The way the manga is turning out is looking strikingly similar to EoE from what I’ve seen, but maybe Sadamoto will throw a curveball at the end, Eva is one of my fav series, but I hope the 4 movies will actually enlighten everyone on say, I don’t know, EVERYTHING that never made sense in the original anime, aka almost everything, I want to actually know what angels are, where they come from, how the Evas were made, etc

  • As long as they don’t add Mari too quickly, I’m for this.
….then again, I’m not really a fan of her so I don’t mind if she goes in or not (but that would be unfair to her fans)
