Mahou Tsukai no Yoru Delayed To “Sometime” In 2011

By Ishaan . March 7, 2011 . 11:09am

Type-Moon have been associated with various games based on their properties in recent years, with partners like Capcom (Fate/Unlimited Codes) and Imageepoch (Fate/Extra). They also have a second project in the works in collaboration with Imageepoch, which no one knows anything about at this point in time.

Type-Moon have also been keeping themselves busy with other projects such as the Unlimited Blade Works movie, Fate/Zero anime, and input on 428: Fusasareta Shibuya de and its anime spin-off, Canaan. However, the last time the company actually released an original flagship title was in 2007, when they ported Fate/Stay Night to the PlayStation 2.

Type-Moon haven’t released a new mainline visual novel ever since, and Mahou Tsukai no Yoru, which was scheduled to be their next major release has been delayed over and over, with no reasons in particular specified for the constant delays. Last we heard, Type-Moon had delayed the title from its September 30th, 2010 release date to “Winter 2011".”

Unfortunately, the latest development in this story is that Mahou Tsukai no Yoru has been delayed yet again, and has gone from winter 2011 to an unspecified timeframe in 2011. Type-Moon made the announcement along with another note of apology on their website.

If you don’t know about Type-Moon or Mahou Tsukai no Yoru and want to learn more, MangaGamer’s EvoSpace, who happens to be a huge Type-Moon fan, did a write-up on the game for us last year, which should prove helpful.

Meanwhile, Type-Moon’s other major project, an anime series produced by Ufotable and titled Girls’ Work, doesn’t have a set date for release yet either.

    Ishaan, shouldn’t that be 428?

    (Running speculation) Oh, and the reason for this delay is probably the same as the others. Nasu and the rest of Type-Moon love them some Demon’s Souls. And with Dark Souls coming out, they may never release another mainline game again.

    I hope that isn’t the case, but it’s worse than Monster Hunter for them.

      Fixed, thanks! I do wonder if the reason is simply that they have their hands in too many pies to be able to focus on any of them. Or if it’s that they simply feel it’s more profitable to keep further licensing their existing brands than create new ones, at least for now.

    Oh man another year? Really? Now I’m a damn sad panda…~ :(

    Don’t forget the Fate/Zero anime project as well! Although written by Urobuchi Gen (Main storywriter for some Nitro+ games, now gaining popularity for Madoka script…), it’s the prequel to the Fate/stay night game.

    It does make me kinda sad that it’s delayed yet again. It’s been what, 15 years since the original novel? That even beats the release wait time for StarCraft II.

    What about the remake of Tsukihime?No news since it was announced with Mahou Tsukai No Yoru and Girls works and btw Girl’s work is an anime not a VN?Im getting cofused here >_<;

      GW is an anime yes, and I think the Tsukihime remake was cancelled, because they already have enough stuff to do, it’s annoying nevertheless..

        No way,The remake of Tsukihime is cancelled?!?!I heared they were gonna use an improved engine of the one used in Fate Stay Night to make the remake of Tsukihime,was soo happy about it.

        They stretched themselves too far. I was really hyped when I heard about the Tsukihime remake. Updated artwork, improved game engine … Unfortunately, Type-Moon has apparently made no further announcements about it since they first announced it (or at least, none that I could find off the web). I recall that they were planning to work on it as soon as they finished Mahou Tsukai no Yoru, but given that this title seems to be running into its own little road bumps at the moment … I’m just praying that the Tsukihime remake doesn’t become the Duke Nukem Forever of the VN world.
