Pokémon Black & White Break Series’ Debut Sales Record

Recommended Videos

Pokémon Black/White released this past weekend to much excitement, and easily shot past the series’ first-day sales record in the U.S., raking in 1.08 million units (combined) in sales on their very first day.

The previous day 1 sales record for Pokémon was held by Pokémon Diamond/Pearl, which sold 780,000 in their first day in the wild in April 2007. Diamond/Pearl were the very first set of Pokémon games released for the Nintendo DS.

Black/White’s performance in the U.S. is similar to its debut in Japan, where the game soared above 2.5 million units in its first week, outdoing Diamond/Pearl’s 1.5 million debut and HeartGold/SoulSilver’s 1.4 million debut.

In case you haven’t kept up, we’ve been covering Pokémon Black/White in depth with a series of Pokémon Diaries that covers the Japanese version of Pokémon Black from beginning to end, pointing out new features and changes while trying to avoid spoilers that might potentially ruin the game for readers.
