Soon, PlayStation Network Will Tell A Legend of Mana

By Ishaan . March 16, 2011 . 8:25am

Square Enix have had a monopoly over the PSOne Classics section on PlayStation Network of late, and they don’t appear to be slowing down. This week saw the release of Parasite Eve, following which we reported that Parasite Eve II was headed to PSN soon, too.

Now, we can report that Legend of Mana is headed to PSOne Classics “soon” in the U.S. as well. That’s from Square Enix, who haven’t specified a specified a release window for the game yet.

Legend of Mana released on the Japanese PlayStation Network last July. Like a lot of Square Enix’s games, the music for Legend of Mana is composed by Yoko Shimomura.

Oh sweet! I love LoM but, I still have my original copy though so ill just play that :P

  • Zero_Destiny

lol We’ve known about this for a while so I’m taking this as a sign that “soon” will be real soon. lol I can’t wait to play Legend of Man. I love the first three games and the GBA remake of the first one. Sadly I never bought this jem. I played it all the time at a buddy’s house. We’d take turns and marathon it for hours. :) Good times. But then he pawned it off one day. :( I was so mad. I was all like WTF you should of pawned the darn thing off to me. Oh well looks like I can playthrough this game again and maybe beat it now. I wonder what happened to that buddy. lol Maybe I should look him up and have him play the game with me. Nah I haven’t seen him since high school. :P Also SE make sure you give us PE2 quickly so as I can play the games back-to-back. :)

I really hate how vague “soon” is. That this game was coming to the PSN was known a few weeks ago and every Tuesday since has been like waking up on Christmas with to an empty stocking.

  • evilmoogle

Now i can finally complete the game!
    Stupid scratched disk

Ah, Legend of Mana. A great game that could have been amazing. Gorgeous art direction, fun gameplay, wonderful music and a fantastic cast (oh, Gilbert). Tons of small quests that you could pick up and finish in 10-30 minutes or so. All it needed was one strong, central storyline to tie it all together.

The three main arcs aren’t bad, and in many ways the plethora of quests made up for it, but something akin to some of Square’s other big games at the time would’ve been amazing.

Anywho, still have the game on my shelf otherwise I’d be all over this.

YES! Time to hear “Pain the Universe” again.

Oh yeah I remember that song…It was really damn good. Probably the best thing about this game apart from the visuals.

  • http://www.themogblog.com/ Edward Walton

I support Yoko so I’m buying it.

  • Croix

Yes yes yes yes yes! So many of these I already own but will be buying so I can play on PSP, and this one will be one of the highlights of PSP gaming I believe.

Square Enix are hitting all the right notes by releasing these classics on to the PSN. If their releases on the PSN stores in North America and Japan are successful, perhaps they’ll make it on to the European PSN stores; which’ll be great for me because I’m planning on buying all of them if they do.

Been thinking the same thing recently in that – what the hell – someone should be putting out PSP level games on PSN to play on the PS3.

Know such isn’t going to happen because there is the PSP, but it would have been nice if someone had bought a clue and made a $30-$40 PS3 “mini” that was actually a full game.

Even tho I have a physical copy of this game, I’m still planning on getting it (like most other PS1 games I’ve downloaded so far)…

  • thebanditking

Go Square-Enix go! This is great news

  • Barrit

Just looked up screenshots, and it doesn’t look too bad. I’ve played Secret of Mana, but not Legend of Mana. I’m guessing no relation?

I’ve heard a lot about it, so eventually I’ll have to pick it up sometime if I ever shorten my backlog..

PSN has given my PSP a new lease of life with all these PSOne classics.

  • vrakanox

Day one, love these types of games something I can actually play co-op with my gf. We’ve been really enjoying contra hard corps and are big fans of the mana series in general.

  • cmurph666

    Chrono Coss plz!

  • http://www.facebook.com/vileta Dave Vileta

ok cool but seriously, lets get some word on Einhander. You’re on a roll square, let’s see it land soon.

    • Belenger

Just give in and buy it on the JP store, playasia changed their prices in regard on JP PSN cards a while ago and right now they are at $17 US dollars about 1 more than buying it on a store in japan well… one day before the earthquake no idea if the price changed after the event.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jstack Jon Stachewicz

Still my favorite Seiken Densetsu game. The art direction, soundtrack, battle system, characters… everything about it was fantastic and extremely memorable

  • Code

    Awesome, still have the original copy of Legend of Mana, but seriously if there’s ever been a game that could use a second release — hopefully more people will try it this time around >w<;

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

Awesome, another Square title I never picked up originally. I was worried for a while that they were only going to release titles I already had, but with Front Mission, this, and PE2, I’m happy.

  • PrinceHeir

seriously though, i plan to buy all PS1 classics(except sports game) on PSN just to show that people support this.

i mean i just bought Vagrant Story, Xenogears, Parasite Eve all Day 1 add games like Castlevania Chronicles, King of Fighters 99, Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, and many more.

developers definitely need to put their old PS1 games like Suikoden II, Dino Crisis 2, Saga series, Chrono Cross/Trigger, Medievil 2, etc…

    i mean it’s easy money :P

    swag

  • alundra311

Hopefully, if plenty of people buy this, they would consider making another Mana game.

glad alot people know what square was all about before enix came. and mana series should had kept going, unlike children mana, sword of mana was 3rd best next to legend of mana. and dawn of mana last. i am a old jrpg gamer 29 years old now and am still with SE even if thing’s havent been all good, Dissidia only series that’s good from them and FFXIII versus and agito should be worth while!

secret of mana and chrono trigger epic titles of our time. am glad am from that generation!

Great music, lovely visuals, disappointing gameplay.

Great, I never had a chance to finish this before!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1446063390 Zichri Lui

Eh, I haven’t really finished Secret of Mana for some reason… so I don’t think this is a top priority release for me. Never really knew why I stopped playing that game.

  • http://twitter.com/faviang Fav

My favorite Mana. I own the original, but will purchase to have a portable copy that works on the psp. If i could buy 10 copies and gift 9 of them I would. Everyone should play play this one. Gorgeous music and hand illustrated artwork.

  • Joanna

I missed out on this (never had a PS or N64, just a GBC) so I’m really happy we are getting this. I loved Sword of Mana and Secret of Mana, even enjoyed Children of Mana. I miss the Mana series….I wonder if we shall see a new game any time soon. :(
