By Ishaan . March 26, 2011 . 10:28am

Fullmetal Alchemist author, Hiromu Arakawa, is debuting a new manga series, titled Silver Spoon, in the 19th issue of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. The issue goes on sale April 6th in Japan.

Unlike Fullmetal Alchemist, the new series will take place in a high school setting in the Hokkaido prefecture of Japan, according to a report at Manga-News. All that’s known so far is that the series will focus on a young boy who attends the school. Silver Spoon will be featured on the cover of Weekly Shonen Sunday and will have a full-colour opening page.

Well let’s see how arakawa takes on this genre, the style of her characters is still pretty cool as I see it.

I hope it has large scale over the top action…but unfortunately Im still going through FMA (Brothehood, volume 4 blu ray comes this week, I am liek so excite, Im dying to know just what the huge plan is involving the whole nation forming that alchemists circle or something, and what is underground, and what Hohenheim and his duplicates are up to…the suspense), and what my favorite Roy is doing, and if Ling yao can resurface from Greed(?), gah)

    • KyoyaHibari

Hoenheim isn’t the villain, it is “Father” of “True Homunculus”, and who knows, it’s called Silver Spoon so maybe it is a culinary manga

      • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Well he looks exactly like the Father guy. He could be in cahoots with him since he seems to know just what is going on with everything and the history behind the creation of the homunculus.

You din’t get very far with the series, huh?

He just probably hasn’t seen the ending yet. Tsuna just follows official releases.

          • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Theyve only release up to episode 39, which is all Ive seen.

        • KyoyaHibari

That’s what I just said, the Homunculus in the Flask copied Hoennheim’s form, if you read my other comments I explained it, Hoennheim knows what Homunculus is planning to do because he was there at the time when he explained his motives but Hoennheim is good

      • KyoyaHibari

*or True Homunculus, his form was created based on Hoennheim while he was a slave I believe or something of the sort, and while Hoennheim was imprisoned, he got to know the Homunculus in the flask and the Homunculus grew fond of him, so when he broke free, the Homunculus destroyed the nation (forgot the name) and infused their souls into both him and Hoennheim making them nearly immortal to both him and Hoennheim if I recall, and copied his form because he admired it.

        • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

Don’t spoil it for him, dude

          • KyoyaHibari

He’s seen it based on what’s being said about “duplicates” and stuff

          • KyoyaHibari

I’m assuming and I don’t find it too much of a spoiler anyways.

  • PurpleDoom

I hope someone picks this up, I’m looking forward to reading it.

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Heh, but no one even knows if its a hit or a miss yet…

the key word here is “hope”…

  • Zero_Destiny

Okay so it’s ether about rich people or psychic powers, that’s what I’m thinking about. Ether one sounds interesting. :) I dig the face close up we got. And hey glasses, nice. If that guy is the main chara that would be cool. Seems like we’ve been seeing more and more mains that were glasses now. I can dig it. I do have my fingers crossed that this won’t end up being like a short series or anything. I don’t just mean getting canceled (but that would suck) but there seem to be too many short series made by successful mangaka after they finish their big series. I do hope Hiromu Arakawa can pull through and be like Yoshihiro Togashi or Rumiko Takahashi and deliver long series one right after another.

    • puchinri

I don’t know, being set in Hokkaido certainly makes it stand out to me, so psychic powers yea, but probably no rich people. Unless there are people from Tokyo coming along to take the psychic folks and move them to Tokyo for their own demented purposes!
I only hope she’s like Togashi-sensei if she doesn’t have to take so many hiatuses. x’D

Mmm sweet, eager to see if she can make another classic. ^_^

  • Saraneth

Hopefully the story will be interesting. Of course, it’ll probably be five years or more until it gets an anime adaptation. I don’t really like reading manga, so I’ll have to wait until then.

Well, so far i like the MC design :P

  • evilmoogle

silver spoon? so, we will have a fabulous silver surfer?

I know that after a huge hit we kind of expect good stuff coming from a mangaka, but it’s sad there is such few info about the manga to have a clear picture of what is about so far. I’ve read in some sources (not in english) that this guy was “studying agriculture” in Hokkaido, which is kind of weird but it’s the best info I’ve found other than what’s already here in Siliconera. I don’t know if it is actually trustworthy…

They’re probably deliberately concealing information about the series so everyone can be surprised about where she takes it

I loved FMA and I hope this will be as good :)

  • http://twitter.com/Stefkov Stefan Kowalyszyn

FMA is number one in my favourite manga list along with Arakawa being my favourite mangaka. I love her art style and her stories.
I just hope the High School setting isn’t everything about this. Most, if not all, of her work is fantasy so I’m expecting an awesome story from this.

  • IceRomancer

Wow hot off the heels of fma and already back at it! I’m eager to to see the first chapter!

  • Happy Gamer

I’m a big fan of Arakawa sensei I hope this is another great manga. FMA was a dream come true for me, mystics of alchemy, steam punk, funny, serious, epic and unconventional tale. I don’t mind something “lighter” hearted as long as she keeps shines her talent. :)

  • http://twitter.com/gabriel_may_uk Gabriel May

Does he have the power to use alchemy as long as he’s holding a spoon made out of a special silver? Yes…That is what I am going for.

    • Pesmerga00

      But……………….there is no spoon.

  • puchinri

I like her manga a lot, though I’d like a mix of her works. I think FMA had a perfect balance of things, but I do like how quirky her other works are and want to see more of that.

  • holyPaladin

So excited for Arakawa-sensei new manga ^^

Eager to know the genre and story…

  • protofox

the kid on the cover reminds me of an angry faced roy mustang cept with glasses and longer hair.

  • http://blackwings.net Sayoko

Looks like a stubborn main char with a sci-fi (probably psychic) feel! My megane shounen senses are tingling!
