The Length Of Your Legs Affects Dragon’s Dogma’s Combat [Update]

By Ishaan . April 12, 2011 . 8:23am

So, “DD” was for Dragon’s Dogma after all! Capcom just announced the game as an action title that has you controlling a party of three setting out to track down and defeat a mysterious dragon.

Along your quest, Capcom say, you’ll run into other giant beasts that you’ll have to defeat using teamwork. Dragon’s Dogma’s combat sounds rather detailed; factors like the weight of your weapon, the material of your armour, and the length of your legs will play a role in how battles will be fought. You’ll take on monsters like goblins, griffins and dragons.

It seems there will also be an emphasis on exploration, as Dragon’s Dogma is an “open-world” game. One of the bullet points is for “hundreds of fully-voiced NPCs”. Capcom say the game is being developed by the creators of Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry 4.

Like Resident Evil 5 and many of Capcom’s other high-definition games, Dragon’s Dogma is being developed using their MT Framework engine. The game is currently scheduled for release in 2012 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

  • You know what they say about guys with long legs.

    They have long pants.

    • They are good at basketball? They walk fast?

      • Code

They kick further? Run taller opo?

  • Draparde

not the announcement i would have preffered, but it still looks intresting

  • DanteJones

Oh man, the cut into the guitar part was SICK! I am so pumped for this game already, haha. :D

And I could be mistaken, but did one of the other party members totally throw the main character onto the griffon? D:

  • Yukito

Yep, everyone wants a piece of Demons Souls…..though I can’t say that is bad, because it is definitely helping against the gun-crazed future we have.

My fandom to mythical creatures likes what it sees, but if I was to get it, I would probably wait until Dragon’s Dogma: Platinum Edition, which comes after Gold Edition, which comes after Silver Edition, which comes after Dragon’s Dogma: HD Turbo edition, which comes after Super Dragon’s Dogma.

Super Dragon’s Dogma II HD: Hyper Turbo Platinum Edition EX with Move support is a must though

  • eilegz

looks like dragon age + demon soul + elder scroll

the art its too “western” for my taste inafune should be happy if he stayed at capcom for this game.

Looks fun but the art and style its a step back

    • yup I agree. was hoping for a Breath of Fire sequel somehow.

    • thebanditking

I do agree and while I like the setting I feel the style is a bit “western”. Personally the color pallet needs to be broadened so it doesn’t look so drab.

  • Christian Wright

    i’m somewhat interested now

  • mikanko

People still left at Capcom who worked on RE4 and DMC4 giving us reason to pretend DmC doesn’t exist. I can dig it.

    • Aiddon

  • Just don’t make it Demon’s Souls hard and it could be a awesome game.

    • The difficulty of Demon’s Souls is part of what made it an awesome game.

      • Indeed but that dosen’t mean it should become the norm and I also think an open world Demon’s Souls would just be pushing things too far. I just feel it should be challenging and not “seperate demi-gods from the men” type of difficulty.

I mean if Capcom were to include a “Normal” and “Hardcore” difficulty that would be fine.

  • I can not wait. Main character better be customizable too. The trailer sold me! Looks more action packed than Dragon Age.

  • PrinceHeir

from the producers of bother DMC3/4 and RE4? awesome :D

this game looks like Demons Souls mix with Shadow of the Colossus(the whole climbing in the dragon thing) not to mention the Drakengard feel of the game.

    can’t wait for this ^^

  • HarryHodd

This looks and sounds great. Glad Capcom finally stepped up with something like this on HD consoles.

  • epy

Oh… so it wasnt Breath of Fire related after all…
    *walks away*

    • thebanditking

I feel your pain, perhaps one day. Still look on the bright side if Capcom did announce another Breath of Fire (with their current mentality) it would likely turn out just like this game, which would piss me off more then them leaving the series alone.

    • Code

      *sigh* It’s almost like Capcom was playing a joke on us with a name like that omo; I didn’t get my hopes up, but still omo;

    • Learii

      ya sad *follow ya*

  • Hmm. Not really doing it for me. Impressive pedigree behind the game, though, so I’ll keep an eye on it in case anything pops up that’ll change my opinion.

  • Guest

    We must slay teh dragon!

  • So…at first glance I thought of 3 things
    1) Apparent protagonist looks a lot like Cain from Drakengard
    2) Obviously Demon Souls (The whole atmosphere, and teaming up with others)
    3) The Monster Hunter series(The whole tracking down Monsters and hunting them down)
…Not to say that it is a bad thing, I’ am actually looking forward to this.

  • capristrider

Looks very promising! Looks like a cross between Demon’s Souls and Lost Planets 2 (especially with those characters jumping) and little of Monster Hunter too!

  • Silly me for actually believing Capcom would bring back an eastern franchise over another desperate attempt to cater to a western audience. I’ll go play Breath of Fire III on my PSP and cry myself to sleep now.

  • I remember this one part in Silent Hill 3, where the only way you could get survive a falling ceiling, was to equip the heaviest weapon and swing it to duck.

What I’m saying is, while it’s extremely creative, I hope they don’t take the detail thing a little too far.

  • thebanditking

Looks like it could be good but I will hold off until I see/know more.

  • ufoflash

hm this looks pretty interesting. seems really promising. cant wait for more news.
