Konami Haven’t Forgotten Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights

By Ishaan . April 13, 2011 . 10:35am

Yes, Dr. Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights is still releasing this summer. Konami sent out a reminder today with a debut trailer chock full of British accents (but the characters themselves are all French…).

While the trailer doesn’t convey it, Konami have described Lautrec as a bit of an immoral and unpopular character who cares for little other than solving puzzles. Perhaps we’ll see more of this in the actual game once it’s released.

If the Layton game isn’t released soon, this might do in the meantime.

This looks like it’s going to an RPG with puzzle elements, not a brain teaser puzzle/point-and-click adventure game though. There have been screenshots with Lvl, Hp, attack and defense stats in them.

I can see the future.. Layton vs Lautrec.. nah, everyone can see that

  • PrinceHeir

    this looks awesome :D

yes this will keep those who are waiting for the new Layton game, like me ^^

NOT directed by Shingo Mukaitoge after all.
I hoped they’d give him another chance after Zack&Ombra :/

It’s Jean Luc Picard all over again.

The power of logic will bring any and all truths to light, no mystery is unsolvable – Jean Pierre Lautrec

Yes bring it to me! He is a phenomenal character, day 1 baby day 1!

“with a debut trailer chock full of British accents (though the characters themselves are all French…)””

This. Hole crap, that was awkward.

    • kylehyde

      certainly it is.

It was also the first thing that I noticed about the trailer, and then I realized that every time that there’s a foreigner in a game who isn’t a Russian then their accent will be a British one… regardless of where they’re from.

French accent is pretty endearing, I wonder why they didn’t give the main cast any French accents. :(

Looks like this is shaping up to be another EU-only release.

As much as I want to congratulate them for finally getting a leg up on us, it pisses me off that game devs/publishers feel like they’re starting to play favorites. >_<#

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

The game has already been announced for the US, releasing summer 2011.

According to Amazon, it’s gonna be in August 31, 2011, for the Americas.

But yeah, I’d love to hear French dubbing in this game, especially we have Paris, France, as the setting and French chars.

*shrugs* Burying important release information is Konami’s specialty. When I joined GameFAQs back in 2002, it was largely to rant against Konami’s refusal to announce a U.S. release of the actual Yu-Gi-Oh! cards to dull the pain of 4Kids’ awful hackjob of the anime. Little did I realize they’d hidden the announcement in a single sentence in the middle of a sprawling press release. Boo, Konami.

          • http://www.youtube.com/B4ULoveShine Tim_at_where

Speaking of burying information, it’s no wonder peeps couldn’t find games like pop’n music Wii. :s

The less Konami buries info, the more customers will care and stop hunting/giving up on them.

        • Joanna

          +1
Thanks to the info, I was about to post about the lack of a North American release with a sad face, but you saved me from looking like an idiot. >///////<

“Konami had already confirmed their Professor Layton-inspired puzzler, Dr Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights for a European release in the past, but they’ve confirmed a U.S. release now, too. Both regions will see the game this summer.”
      From this article: [http://www.siliconera.com/2011/02/16/dr-lautrec-and-the-forgotten-knights-converses-in-english/]
I almost missed it too. Don’t feel too bad. :)

      • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

How did you all miss it, am I the only one that gets Press Releases and preorders these games as soon as they are announced on AMZN?

        • Zero_Destiny

lol I can slip up sometimes. :P

      • puchinri

Heavily inspired is more like it… But cool that we’ll be seeing it too.

      • Joanna

oh god, I commented on that article, how did I forget there was a North American release?! I never forget these things! ….I am ashamed! D:

  • Zero_Destiny

That acting is great. ^_^ Sounds top-notch and I love the accents. Even if there not french. It sounds so nice.

  • http://twitter.com/Veruses Verus

So Konami intentionally forgets about Suikoden? =|

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Suikoden was planned for the 3DS?! Surely now is the time to bring out a new IP!

    • http://www.youtube.com/B4ULoveShine Tim_at_where

No, it’s because @Konami felt it MUST bring back the creator of Suikoden into the fold, just for the sake of having Suikoden VI.

Heck, Konami even used Tierkreis sales, as a gauge, whether to see the demand for the main time line Suikoden is still there.

Also, Konami felt making a main timeline Suikoden without its creator just feels wrong.

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

What does this game have to do with Suikoden in any way at all? What a pointless comment…

“Konami have described Lautrec as a bit of an immoral and unpopular character”

As if the moustache didn’t give it away.

  • puchinri

I’m not sure what to think anymore, but the game still sounds interesting.

  • http://twitter.com/Triplicitrine Triplicity/3LeafIvy

Well, I had forgotten about this game until I saw this article…

  • Aoshi00

Suave British accent.. I wish they would make some 3DS games region free :(…

    • Zero_Destiny

lol Why does everyone say that.
“Konami had already confirmed their Professor Layton-inspired puzzler, Dr Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights for a European release in the past, but they’ve confirmed a U.S. release now, too. Both regions will see the game this summer.”
      From this article: [http://www.siliconera.com/2011/02/16/dr-lautrec-and-the-forgotten-knights-converses-in-english/]
It’ll be here this summer. ^_^

      • Aoshi00

No.. I meant I only have a Jpn 3DS, and I want to play the US version of this game w/ the British accent :(… The Jpn version would probably only have Jpn dub.. I wish some 3DS games would be made region free because technically only the 3DS system is locked and the developers could make the game region free if they choose to, like most US 360 games are region free.. so far I’ve seen people tested games on youtube, the early games like Nintendogs and Monkey Ball are all region locked..

I haven’t followed this game too much though, at first I thought it was a Layton copycat, I thought this was even a regular DS game instead of 3DS :)

        • Zero_Destiny

Bummer. :(Sorry Aoshi At least you can have some 3D boobies games though. ^_^

  • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

I actually like Konami these days. I’ll put this one into the list of games to acquire before actually getting a 3DS.

  • http://twitter.com/pipsterfinn Pip Murphy

Ooh, that looks rather promising. I like the voices, too. Maybe the explanation is that the characters are all part of some huge AU ex-pat community. ;)

I’m also curious as to whether it would have been commented that they hadn’t been given their native accents if they all sounded American. (That isn’t sarcasm by the way, I am just curious to know!)
