5pb To Be Absorbed By Parent Company

By Ishaan . April 21, 2011 . 12:03am

Effective from June 1st, following shareholder approval, Steins;Gate publisher, 5pb, will be absorbed into their parent company, AG-ONE, according to a report at Japanese site Gamebiz.jp. AG-ONE themselves are part of a company named Dwango, who also own game publishers Spike and Chunsoft.

Whether or not the 5pb brand will remain intact going forward remains to be seen. For example, in the case of Atlus and their own absorption by parent company, Index Holdings, Atlus still develop and publish games under their own name.

In addition to being a game publisher, 5pb are also a recognized record label in Japan. Prior to establishing 5pb, executive director, Chiyomaru Shikura, had wanted to set up a company that combined his talents as a composer as well as his experience in games, and 5pb was the result.

definitely reminds me Atlus being absorbed by Index Holdings. hope they still keep the 5pb trademark :P

more importantly this doesn’t affect any future and upcoming 5pb games :(

Yea, I hope they could still continue making their own games w/o being affected as well.. it’s like everything gotten absorbed by AQ Interactive before.. Shikura Chiyomaru is a pretty cool dude (a bit cocky but hey he’s talented), Cave’s Asada Makoto is a bit more humble.. The name Index Holdings still sounds funny to me.. make me think of HSBC Holdings.. a name in the stock market or something…

With the 5pb name being quite famous now, I guess they’ll still make them work under that label.

Hope this won’t kill 5pb.’s projects such as Robotics;Notes and Dunamis15…

  • You’ve got to wonder now that Chiyomaru Shikura is ceo of Mages [AG-One], and they’ve got more money, if they’re going to do more ps3 stuff. mmm.

  • Dwango also owns NicoNico Douga. They should have a soft spot for Otaku.

Let’s all hope for the best :)

I don’t know much about 5pb but from what I heard from you guys, it’s a remarkable brand with lots of experience in the developing of games and that always deliver quality products. I still have to check out Steins;Gate but I heard it’s one hell of a journey :).

Let’s hope that somethin good and creative comes out of this union :)
