Neurowear “Necomimi” Cat Ears React To Brainwaves

By Ishaan . May 7, 2011 . 10:27am

Neurowear have designed a pair of cat ears that they say respond to brainwaves. These have the ability to wiggle, twitch, perk up or flop down. Take a look:

A price hasn’t been mentioned by Neurowear for the Necomimi ears yet. They’re calling the product a “communication tool that augments human’s body and ability,” posing the question of whether or not we can control organs that don’t exist on our bodies.

Food for thought:

Watching this made me think; it would interesting to see a game set in a futuristic Japan where gadgets like these are the common trend. The World Ends With You in a more futuristic style, perhaps?

I remember trying out a Star Wars table game that supposedly used your brain waves to make small balls float, like the power of the Force (ok, it actually turned on some kind of fan underneath). It worked somehow, but it was terribly annoying and difficult to get the hang of. I don’t expect this to be any better.

    • No9

Haha I remember that game. Wish I was able to try it though…

Trust me, you didn’t miss anything.

Speaking of devices like this in gaming, has anyone ever heard of these devices (this is a link)? Well other than the Force Trainer and Mindflex. (I’m talking more specifically about the companies NeuroSky and Emotiv.)

Edit: How do I change the color of a link?

  • darkfox1

I wonder if something like this would be easy for me. Controlling brain waves hmmm. Well back to my Martial Arts training :D

  • No9

Looks like it’s not quite there yet…

    • neocatzon

      good start anyway..

  • Code

    Haha I saw these just a bit ago >w<; rar, by far, the best use of brainwaves ever +o+ Because I'm always looking for something to use my surplus of brainwaves on opo;

It’s so awesome that people were able to make this!!! But at the same time it’s kind of disturbing that we can make stuff like this. Not nearly as disturbing as this :

*shivers* It’s a lot less messed up with limbs and such but Oh man. The site of this thing flinging it’s appendages around will be forever haunting me. :( Why dose such a thing exist?

It looks like the final boss of Parasite Eve. >___> Good god.

      • PrinceHeir

        lol so true XD

To everyone who replied to Zero: Just in case you guys didn’t find out on your own, that thing is a telephone android, Telenoid for short.

      • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Yeah, to keep the elderly company. Doesn’t make it any less creepy =S

        • Tommy Lee

Oh yeah, there’s no doubting that. I’m just putting it out there just in case whoever looks at the video doesn’t realize it.

    • Ren

I said it before and I will say it again. WEAK!

  • karasuKumo

That advert was brilliant, I can see many awkward ear erection moments happening.

    • [The Hunter] Doomrider

The ears themselves are awkward enough, I’d say…

Cool device!!! I wonder if anyone tried to use that tech for rehab therapy, as a visual stimulant. At the very least, the anime/game cons will be a bit more interesting/telling now.

  • PrinceHeir

japan is definitely ahead in terms of technology.

stuff like this is just amazing O_O

    the girl is cute :D

oh and i wonder if other “stimulants” might affect the ears? :P

    • Tommy Lee

There’s been research on stuff like this all over the world for a long time now. It’s only recently that companies decided to commercialize these devices. If you’ve heard of the Force Trainer and/or Mindflex toys, it’s similar tech.

      • PrinceHeir

awesome, will look into those :D

  • Ren

Wow, you guys actually posted this.

    • Zero_Destiny

Ha Ha. Yeah good times from Twitter. >_< But then again. How dare you still call me weak. Argh I'll remember this Ren. :P And no Akuma's have souls so they're not as scary as the souless limbless abomination of phones. lol

  • Dimentionalist

“Azunyan, here you go! You look so cute in those! Wait… why are your ears back?”

  • Draparde

This is actually pretty interesting…i’d never use these myself but i know of a friend who’d probably do just about anything for them lol.

I think this is kind of adorable.

    WANT.

I’ve got a kitty hat, and wearing it has somehow given me a chronic itch on my non-existent left cat ear. This seems like the logical next step :)

      I ALSO WANT. <3
