Viz Manga App Now On iPhone And iPod Touch As Well

By Ishaan . May 8, 2011 . 11:58am

As some of you might remember, Viz have a manga app on the iPad, which is home to series such as Bakuman, Naruto and Ouran High School Host Club. This app is now being extended to the iPhone and iPod Touch as well, and Viz are commemorating the launch with a sale.

Publishers Weekly report that Viz are offering the first volumes of certain series at a discounted price of $2.99 through midnight on May 9th, PST. This is a 40% discount on the regular price of $4.99. Additionally, two new series have been added to the app in the form of Natsume Ono’s House of Five Leaves and not Simple.

Interestingly, Viz VP, Alvin Lu, says that feedback to Viz’s one-time experiment with releasing certain books in digital format before their print versions has been met with positive feedback. The response to digital was larger than Viz anticipated, but at the same time, there was no impact on print sales.

I ended up giving my iPod Touch away for the sake of just giving it away. Id wish they made manga apps available on traditional computer platforms.

Yeah I really wish that made a Manga Service like Crunchy Roll or something. That would be really great. Then we can access it on our computers and everything. The problem from what I understand is that a lot of the Japanese companies are kinda scared to do this and don’t want to give out internet rights, right away.

That being said in the past couple years we have seen more Japanese companies being internet friendly. So maybe just maybe we can get more online Manga. SquareEnix is doing something along these lines and I think YenPlus is too. We might just luck out. ^_^

or maybe steam like would be awesome :D

as for this app, well i do have an ipod touch so i might try it. still i prefer retail over digital no matter what the price difference is(well as long as it’s not over 50% that is)

lol I don’t like the Apple Formant too much. I mean this is just me and all. I’m not saying it’s bad. No real reason why I don’t like it I guess I’m just not too use to it. Any ways all the formats are good. There is no reason to hate on the other stuff. I like my Zune. But it is a little old now. I think I should trade up for a Zune HD or something.
