Tekken 6 Was Namco Bandai’s Highest-Selling Game This Past Fiscal Year

By Ishaan . May 10, 2011 . 3:09am

Naruto and Tekken are valuable global properties for Namco Bandai; both series helped bring in some of the company’s highest sales numbers last year. Tekken 6, released on consoles back in late 2009, sold 1.15 million copies worldwide this past fiscal year. Meanwhile, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 sold 1.1 million copies.

Meanwhile, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West has sold 730,000 copies, worldwide, to date, with Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 at 580,000.

Like many other companies, Namco Bandai’s fiscal year ends on March 31st every year. Despite the fact that Gods Eater Burst released on March 15th in the U.S. (and 18th in Europe), only Japanese sales figures for the game have been provided, coming in at 470,000 units.

Bro, remember the time I asked in another topic, “Why does Hideo Baba give me the impression, ‘we’re intentionally making
more PS3 Tales, so that we can use their low sales/demand as
justification not to bring them out of Japan’?”

“Low sales” seems a bit unfair, considering they still sold more than the 360/Wii/DS entries. What more should they do at this point?

I guess the old PS1 days, when Tales would sell upward of a million copies in Japan alone, just ain’t returning for now.

Ha, it seems that Naruto has finally surpassed Dragonball, in terms of milking.

Also, this just proved to me how Tekken is the only in-house Namco Bandai IP that is immune from getting buried by licenses. That and it’s the only in-house IP that gets properly marketed.

Naruto surpassed Dragon Ball in terms of milking? Wouldn’t that mean Naruto has more crappy video game releases that nobody wants than Dragon Ball? That’s what milking is, no? Rather, this is the opposite of milking. UNS2 was a great game that people loved and, judging by the numbers, even branched out farther than just the anime audience

        I agree!

If any company is guilty of milking Naruto it’s TakaraTomy (those DS games)
