Take A Look At Diablo III’s AI Assistants, Or “Followers” As Blizzard Calls Them

By Ishaan . May 12, 2011 . 11:03pm

Hirelings — your AI-controlled partners — in Diablo III are known as “Followers”. Blizzard released a new trailer showing off the Follower classes in the game today. You’ll be able to enlist the aid of an Enchantress, Scoundrel or Templar.

Diablo III is currently undergoing internal beta-testing. An external beta is scheduled to kick off in the third quarter of this year. Blizzard say they hope to release the game in 2011, but have made no promises on that front.

As much as I love Diablo 1 and 2 I think this one doesn’t look that great, the graphics look really underwhelming for a game released in 2011 and art style looks straight out of WOW.

    • Ladius

Yeah, it looks funny but also quite underwhelming so far : Be ready for votes in the 90-100 range by critics who normally hatedon’t even consider games if they haven’t AAA production values, though :P

It will be the incredible polish to the gameplay that will win this game accolades, not the graphics. Hoards of people still play Diablo 2 and WoW and it’s not the graphics that draws them.

    • Rciwws

I was thinking the exact same thing. Looks like it was built on the Warcraft III engine. Not something released in 2011/12 by far. The graphics looks far more cartoony than D1 or D2.

No1 cares about this game :/
    i know i don’t

I do. Does that make me and other hack ‘n slash gamers, “No1”?

Me thinks understatement of the year.

@Ragna XBL (fors some reason I can’t directly reply to your post): It will probably sell more than the sum of any title mentioned on Siliconera in the last weeks (aside from the obvious DQFFKH), though, it’s simply that this community is more interested in other stuff :P

To be honest I felt it was a bit strange to have Diablo 3 covered here on Siliconera (the focus on western games here has almost always been linked to Japanese publishers like Square Enix with Eidos, or western branches of Japanaese publishers like Atlus USA’s recent western efforts. Then again, having some mainstream news can’t hurt at all.

I Kinda like the paladin look of one of the followers, loved Diablo and Diablo 2 but I don’t really like any of the classes in this one so I’m not sure If I’ll get it.

  •  I was shocked when one of my IRL friends asked me about this game. Guess theirs a PC gamer in all. Definitely can not wait to see the final product.
