Travel Back In Time With Mortal Kombat’s “Klassic” Skins Pack

By Ishaan . May 27, 2011 . 1:28pm

“Klassic” skins for the new Mortal Kombat were initially only available as exclusive pre-order items at various stores, but soon, you’ll be able to download them off Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Here’s a look:

That’s…a pretty accurate representation of the original looks for all these characters. Seeing Sub-Zero and Scorpion in particular with simpler costumes is rather nice.

They said Skarlett (red ninja female) will be in this too.

    • mikanko

Not sure they’ll happen at the same time as I’d expect these to be within a week or two.  Skarlett won’t be till after E3, as they’ve made a point to say that she’ll be playable at the show.

I definitely wanna see what DLC characters, (if any) one of my favorite fighting game series ever :D

  • Selaphiel

No thx. I don’t buy on-disc DLC. When they put out stuff that isn’t these costumes+fatalities, I’ll buy it. But this package is a no-go for moi.

    • GamerKT

      ok

    • Testsubject909

Well, it’s your luck. These aren’t DLCs. They’re DLKs.

      • Selaphiel

lol, man. I’m pretty drunk right now but your comment made me literally lol.

  • ffboi7

Sub-Zero becomes Smoke during the last few seconds of the video lol

    how much it cost?

    • HistorysGreatestMonster

      $4.99 for all 7 costumes/3 fatalities.

  • SoulEater98

These should have been the default costumes in the first place…

    • HistorysGreatestMonster

Nah. I like that all the ninjas look different from each other. It was understandable back when they were still using actors for the roles, because all you had to do was make palette swaps, but now, it’s very nice that each character has a distinctive look.

I’m not buying this purposely because I don’t like how the klassic looks are the same things for every character, only in different colors.

What I always found puzzling about people calling the ninja “palette swaps” was that they each actually had different sprites, technically not making them palette swaps at all.

For example, in the first (and second) MKs, Scorpion’s arm was behind his head, Sub-Zero’s arm was across his chest, and Reptiles arms were by his waist.  This is (obviously) not mentioning special moves, which shouldn’t count anyway.

I wasn’t until Ultimate MK3 (I believe) where they actually started reusing sprites for different characters.

Whenever I bring this observation up, nobody has anything to say about it. Watch this happen again.

      I agree

scorpion looks sucky reptile looks dumb and i dont like ermac he’s all weird

Theres no school like the Old school

      • HistorysGreatestMonster

The only one who looks bad is Reptile. Otherwise, the ninjas all look better with the new looks, especially Ermac’s alt with the hood. I don’t want to go back to the days where you could make 90 characters by just making the same character different colors of the rainbow.

    • ffboi7

Agreed. Though I don’t mind their current costumes the retro costumes are the best ones.
