Hideo Kojima Discusses Kojima Productions’ New Ideas In An Amusing Interview

By Ishaan . June 2, 2011 . 6:38pm

Metal Gear Solid director, Hideo Kojima, recently revealed on Twitter that he would not be attending E3 this year. However, as an alternative, he opted to record a half-amusing, half-informative video interview with localization firm 8-4’s Mark McDonald, formerly an editor at EGM magazine, which you can watch below.

Kojima discusses his “Transfarring” concept, by which he hopes to enable PS3-to-PSP/NGP cross-compatible saves. His next game, he says, will be transfarring-enabled.

He also touches upon his development studio’s new game engine, the “Fox Engine,” which will be used to create games across the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The Fox Engine, Kojima says, will allow Kojima Productions to cut down on development time.

Food for thought:

Be honest — how many of you cried at the references to Zone of the Enders 3 and Snatcher 2? I know someone must have!

All these “to NGP” cross things make the device really more and more compelling. The fox engine, I wonder what multiplatforms he is targetting.

What? No one cares about ZOE 3, come on, everyone knows that. I will admit that the Snatcher logo in the background was rather suggestive, considering they were talking about Kojima’s next game.

I was… Unimpressed with the engine. Maybe it’s due to the fact that its’s still in its early stages.

Also: Raiden standing and breathing =O Hold me.

    (Mega 64, so good)

surprisingly Raide’s body structure looks too big O_O

    The fox engine?

    GREYFOX! >:(

    • Exkaiser

The FOX engine, as in the precursor to FOXHOUND.

      BOSS!

Off topic, but looking at this I can’t help but realize that where Kojima if not Konami is right there with subtitles with their announcements, Square isn’t. That despite looking to appeal to Western markets and even once having offices in Seattle, they’ve never made any real attempt to share information on a 1-1 basis. They literally have been playing keep up with themselves and seem even more clueless and generally out of touch now than they were in the 80s.

I just want a new Boktai game. Hideo Kojima doesn’t have to make Metal Gear anymore.

  • heartless141

would be great if it was Wireless though. =/

Would it have killed them to put the twin snakes and portable ops on there as well? Feels like a pretty disconnected “collection” if you can even call it that.

    • leeorv

I don’t think that Twin Snakes should be in there as much as I think Portable ops should. how can you make one PSP -> HD title and not make the other that came before it?

Twin snakes isn’t that essential because it’s already available on both PSP and PS3 as the PS1 classic MGS1, and you can actually transfer saves for that pretty easily :P

    Mega 64 : The Game

  • RagnaXBL

Pchycho Turkey was win, but the the Kojima VA creeped me out a bit :/

  • Covnam

I love how he had little placards prepared for everything. It’d be nice if transfarring only required one copy of the game, but I doubt it, at least on new titles. Maybe ps2 titles will only need to be purchased once. Though I wonder if Kojima was talking about ps2 remakes or actual ps2 games…

Kojima looks at the cameraman’s penis every time his turn to talk comes in.
And I think he talks to the interviewer’s penis as well.

Does that mean we have to buy the game twice, for two consoles? I hope not… In any case, going multi-console and being able to transfer save-files are very considerate choices.

    • HistorysGreatestMonster

You wouldn’t have to buy it for two consoles. You’d have to buy it for one console and one portable system.

      • leeorv

I thought this was pretty obvious that that’s what he meant…

      • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

        -_-

        The difference being…?

  • HistorysGreatestMonster

Painfully unfunny segment, but very excited about the games announced for it. Wish they had shown some of the improvements.

The Mega64 skit was funny, but Kojima’s terrible dub had me ripping out my hair with a rusty jagged spoon, and that that annoying voice made me feel every tumor and stroke forming in my brain. But the Mega64 skit was funny.
