THQ have Darksiders II in development for a 2012 release for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, the publisher revealed this week. Like its predecessor, Darksiders II has you playing as one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. While you played as War in the first game, this time you’ll get to play as Death. Here’s the first trailer for the game:

The story of Darksiders II takes place alongside the story of the first game. THQ say  Darksiders II will have a larger world, full weapon and armour upgrade systems, and bigger dungeons with new enemies and bosses.

Part 1 got a lot of undeserved flack for being a clone of this game or that and being put down even though it was a fun game. So I’m looking forward to part 2!

    • doubletaco

I didn’t mind how shamelessly it took elements from other games.

This is because it took all of the RIGHT elements.

I thought it was alright. It’s mechanically sound and relatively fun, but the whole affair seems so empty and soul less. I’m usually fine with clones, but Darksiders fails to distinguish itself in anyway. None of the scenes in the game really stuck with me and there were no real epic moments in the game. In fact, the one thing I really remember is how much of a cop-out the ending was.

  • It plays alongside? So are we gonna meet with War here and there?

    • Matthew Bates

It might be possible to see him now and then, but actually meeting him seems unlikely since we never saw Death in the first Darksiders.

  • Pick up the first game from a Black Friday sale. Guess I will add it to my queue to play as this 2 gets closer to release.

  • Totally cool with this

the other 2 horseman? i don’t question conquest, but i’d love to see how they depict Famine

ooyeh! the first one was awesome!

  • More giant bug enemies.

  • Crimson_Cloud

The first one was pretty cool. Yeah it may be considered a clone but the style and the atmosphere were refreshing in this kind of genre. I’m hoping for more variety in gameplay and more upgrades in moves/techniques.

  • I know It’s a little early to be thinking about the subtitle.
but how does “Darksiders 2 Deaths Vengeance” sound?

  • jakxzero

    Death looks like James Root

  • HistorysGreatestMonster

I can’t be the only person here who absolutely hates the character design, can I be? That’s what I couldn’t get past in the first game. Awful, steroid-pumped silly looking characters that looked straight from the worst days of Image comics.

  • YsyDoesIt

The first game was no masterpiece, agreed, but it was enjoyable.  The mechanics were unoriginal, but sound.  The art direction, however, was top-notch; I love seeing vibrancy in a post-apocalyptic setting (especially with how grey and brown everything seems to be in this last decade).

OMG been waiting for this for so long! Darksiders and Bayonetta were the sole reason that month of 2010 of January I failed the 1st quarter of my semester.
