Patroklos, Pyrrah And Mitsurugi Have At It In A Soulcalibur V Trailer

By Ishaan . June 3, 2011 . 2:17am

We’ve seen a teaser trailer for Soulcalibur V and a single in-game screenshot, but today, Namco Bandai released a proper E3 trailer for the game. Take a look:

Game director, Daishi Odashima, said a few days ago on his Twitter feed that you would see hints of new combat systems in the trailer. See anything that stands out?

Soulcalibur V is currently slated for a 2012 release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Oh crap,The guy is cocky .

  • mikanko

Ugh at Pyrrah’s personality.  If she’s Cassandra’s replacement I’ma hafta switch mains. =(

Really like the look of the dashing out of the way though, hope they can bring something similar to the 8 way run SC2 had back.

    • Yeah I wish these devs would be more creative when they create their characters. Pyrrah has the same “sorry” and “go away” lines we’ve been hearing forever. I bet she’ll also say something like “OOPS, didn’t mean to hurt you” when she wins. And her voice sounds recycled.

Oh well it’s only 10% done. Hopefully they add some better characters.

  • Aiddon

hmmm, I feel like I’m seeing some sorta hint, but I can’t put my finger on it. One is definitely that weird move Pat does in Siegfried. I wanna say there also appears to be something with the parries that charge Mitsurugi did

  • RagnaXBL

*yawn* looks like your standard SC affair, pretty much what i expected. i do like pyrrah’s move set though. very flashy

    • Code

      Pretty much in the same boat. The gameplay does look a little more weighted, but I’ll have to see more game play to really tell how much has changed. I’ve wanted the series’ mechanics to be changed up for awhile now; by Soul Calibur 4 they were really getting dated imo. This doesn’t seem to really be bringing as much mechanical change to the table, as it is just really taking everything else and throwing it out the window, so I’m a little bummed out about it opo;

  • Sophitia will live as DLC…

  • Draparde

Looks nice, im not sure what they where doing when they would glow blue, or Red during an attack…but i do enjoy that quick side dash…cant wait to see more characters.

    • It looks like it represents shield bearers “armor” during an attack.
So… simply put… them blocking while attacking.

  • Come on Namco I know you are teaming up with Capcom to make 2 games but was that Shoryuken necessary?

  • Dimentionalist

I hear Yuri Lowenthong in there! Any guesses on who voices the girl?

    • Balmung

yer i’m sure i heard him as well pretty sure he’s Patroklos lol but he’s already voice number 1 in char customisation

    • Kris

She sounds like Noel Vermillion from BlazBlue to me…
Which is a bummer, since she was the only voice actor I didn’t like in BlazBlue (and she’s four different characters in that series :p)

      • Dimentionalist

Agreed. Not a big fan of Cristina Vee (man I hope my buddy doesn’t see this, he’ll skin me good for saying that). She actually used to be a fandubber, I think it shows. Unfortunate casting, but hey, there’s always dual voice.

  • Chiupon

… Do Pyrrah’s eyes change colors? ovo I swear in one picture, her eyes were orange. But in the trailer, they were blue…? She’s obviously really moe, but is she yandere, too…?

  • Oh Hai Sasuke! Didn’t expect you to be in here!

Oh who am I kidding, he’s in everything. Now we wait for JYB, Laura, and Crispin, if we’re lucky.

    • Heh, I only wish Crispin was Siegfried again. Drummond was okay though.

      • Dimentionalist

Namco, for some reason, refuses to have union voice actors in their games nowadays, even though they pay far more than the union standard. Crispin is a union actor, so he’s out of the question. This union business is why ToS; DotNW’s voice cast was full of fail replacements.

        • Most of the voice actor in that game still weren’t bad though, although Zelos and Lloyd’s replacements were not entirely good.

  • I really can’t stand all of the negative comments some people are giving this game already. I don’t believe it was the youtube video… perhaps it was the game trailers one I was linked to. EDIT: Yup.

  • IceRomancer

I like the newly designed soul calibur and soul edge!
The soul edge looks extra evil and ominous with that face on it!

  • AzureNova

Looks pretty good in my opinion so far =)

  • Suicunesol

They should have used new music. >_>

  • Okay, there’s definitely the super move at the end.
I’m not sure, but early on, it looks like she does some crazy fast 8-way-run.
Patro does this super-stab move. Maybe it’s just an ultimate though.

I also think Pyrrah’s throw is really cute. :3 FALL ON THEM!

  • PrinceHeir

    amazing :D

it looks like it’s much more faster than the previous 3 games before it ^^

  • Am I the only one who hates Patroklos design? especially the hair lol.

  • Did anyone not notice how fluid and quick the gameplay is unlike SCIII and SCIV? It looks so much like SCII now with the current gen graphics.

  • Have I actually seen Patroklos doing some sort of “Metsu Shoryuken Soul Calibur style” at the end? Was that some sort of Critical Finish or a Special-Bar-Based move, like a regular SF or KOF? Because that sure looked linked in a combo in the vid. (Not to mention that Pyrrah in the beginning also did this “special attack that darkens the background”).

Also the side dash looked very nice, but I only saw Pyrrah doing it so it maybe a specific move of this character only (I remember my favorite character Xianghua having lots of moves like that, based more on dodging than attacking or countering).

Anyway, that’s all that stood out for me at least. And by the way, this old Mitsurugi looks awesome.

  • So Patroklos and Pyrra are Yuri Lowenthal and Laura Bailey…
