Japan Will See Final Fantasy XIII-2 This December

By Ishaan . June 6, 2011 . 11:27pm

While they debuted an English trailer for E3 2011 (embedded again above, in case you missed it), Square Enix also had news for Japan on the Final Fantasy XIII-2 front today. The game, they announced, will hit the Japanese market in December.

Meanwhile, the PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIII will be seeing an update on July 21st that will add an “Easy mode” feature to the game. That’s the same day the budget re-release of the game goes on sale under Square’s “Ultimate Hits” label. The Xbox 360 version of the game already has the Easy mode included.

Square also added that the Final Fantasy games have shipped over 100 million units worldwide, as of May 2011. A price for Final Fantasy XIII-2 in Japan has not been decided yet. In the U.S. and Europe, Square Enix will release it in “early 2012″.

    Allright:D

This is a legitimate comment and not trolling.

Wasn’t the game easy enough? I don’t understand the easy mode.

    • blah blah

      It was too easy.
If anything, it needs a hard mode.

    • thecowboypoet

Maybe “easy mode” could speed up some of those overly long boss battles… I’m looking at you, Bartandolous

    • Aoshi00

The patterns of fighting the enemies or bosses are still the same, just that they don’t take forever to break in easy mode, which helps tons especially in the last couple of dungeons since Gran Pulse.  I thought in normal mode some fights took forever.  So it’s nice the PS3 ver is getting the free update..

  • PrinceHeir

so japan get’s XIII-2 December 2011 just like XIII was last December 2009?

if all goes well we’ll probably get the game around March 2012 :P

and maybe just maybe Versus XIII summer for 2012 in japan and fall for outside release.

look forward to importing as always XD! 2 games to import this year ^-^

  • http://twitter.com/thesupersakura Kristina Wright

I’d like that easy mode, considering I loathe leveling up characters and just want to advance in the story line. :D

  • skymap

    That’s the version I’ll be getting. :)

  • kupomogli

More point a to b with awful storyline and gameplay.  Yes!!!!  Just what I wanted!

    • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

The gameplay’s fine. Let’s just hope for more towns

      • Aoshi00

Looks like there’d be more than 2 towns indeed this time.. I didn’t like XIII too much.. but chances are I would still be suckered into importing this :(…  hopefully it would be much more fun than the first.. Noel looks like he’s straight from KH.. wonder if the story would still be told by the summary thing that updates every 5 secs, hope not… but more Serah and NORA are a good thing, Noel seems like a good char too..

    • Guest

Point a to b, you mean just like every Final Fantasy game ever?! (Or any JRPG ever for that matter).  Shock!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Javon-Hernandez/706489182 Javon Hernandez

No surprise there– probably coming out so soon because it’s the exact same game with new characters. :x

  • Yukito

X-2 = Main character Tidus is dead. FIND HIM.
XIII-2 = Main character Lightning is dead. FIND HER.

    Hmmm.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1769064526 Vivian Mai

Wait…people actually found FFXIII….HARD? So hard that they needed an easy mode?

    …Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh?

    It’s not like it’s Catherine…

    • Aoshi00

Some fights took forever or the enemies took forever to break, even if you’re using the right paradigm, especially in the last 3 chapters.  So easy saves some time, it’s still actually not easy, just that the fights don’t drag on for too long. I didn’t toggle to easy mostly until the last 3 chapters, didn’t want to waste time for a 2nd playthru but wanted to see the ending in English..

Looking on the bright side, after they’re done with this, it’s VERSUS TIME!

    • Boris_Althema

      Well said.

    • OneOkami

The funny thing is Versus has been in development since the time this game’s PREDECESSOR was.

Furthermore, the game’s director has worked on at least 5 different games (just off the top of my head) that have shipped in that time, and directed at least two of them. (which I think is part of the problem)

      • karasuKumo

All the more reason to expect high quality from Versus. They can take as much time as they wanted with it if it pays off ^^

I’m starting to wish that they spent more time on this one as it seems that they’ve just copied the enemies and characters over from XIII with a few extras. I guess it’s too be expected since it’s a sequel but still :P.

      • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

Agito *cough* Type-0 was announced in  2003, for mobile phones and even changed platforms to the PSP after a couple of years being developed for phones. So far, the trailers have been nothing but pure awe and people are actually looking forward to it.

Probably XIII has let you down, but is it good enough reason to think that everything SE develops after XIII problematic?

        • OneOkami

Uhh, I think you read that the wrong way.  I’m just simply commenting on how ridiculous the dev cycle has been for this game  (hence my specific wording: “The funny thing is…”).  Its ridiculous for one to be able to say, “it’s VERSUS TIME!” after the darn game’s sister project AND its sequel have been completed, and those are just two on the laundry list of titles Nomura has worked on in that time.

I can see how its easy to read that and make it sound like I’m pretty much trolling.  The fact is, I enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII overall, primarily for its art direction, cinematics, battle system and music.  Story and general gameplay outside of battles? Not so much.  Its uhh…shall we say “coarse” development lowered my expectations of it greatly so it ended up being hard-pressed to let me down by the time it was finally released.  And no, I’m not of the mentality that “Squeenix is teh suxors”  (In fact if you go back a bit through my post history you’ll eventually find a comment in which I praised Square Enix for their PSP efforts).

Now all that being said, despite how I seriously question the competence of the company’s project management, it doesn’t change the fact that I’m indeed looking forward to playing the rest of the Fabula Nova Crystalis projects.  :)

Thats all my friend, no need to read too deeply into it :P

          • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

Ah I see I see. Thanks for redirecting me to the correct point of view. I feel the same way about XIII too, especially seeing how long it took to develop it compared to development cycles of other JRPGs. I’ll just pull a shonen manga cliche and hope for the best.

  • Boris_Althema

Easy mode update huh? Could use it to kill that two Raktavija on mission 62, I think?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2WNP7FYA3VYJQKEYYV5GXH3K5Y yahoo-2WNP7FYA3VYJQKEYYV5GXH3K5Y

What’s Final Fantasy without Hironobu Sakaguchi-sama and Nobuo Uematsu-sama?

  • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Wow, I cant believe we have to wait until early 2012. I was hoping for it this holiday.

  • Roses4Aria

So I’m guessing we’ll get it sometime in March 2012 maybe?  It seems like they might be going for the same sort of time frame they did with FFXIII.

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Guess we will get Tales of Graces F later than Spring :(

  • mikanko

Gonna be hard not to import this, but I think I’ll try waiting to see if there’s another Chinese release with Japanese voice and English text.

    • Barrit

Yes, I was hoping for the Chinese release of XIII-2 as well. My only complaint about the Chinese version of XIII was that about 3 or 4 lines of dialogue seemed to be missing the audio completely. Did you notice that during your playthough?

  • Yamaneko22

This new male hero looks… disgusting:/ Compared to him Vaan looks like a manly man.

  • Croix

So this is basically a Final Fantasy version of Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of The New World, right? Two completely different main characters, other party members as monsters, former protagonists shrouded in mysterious circumstances…

  • http://twitter.com/IXRoxasXI Rei Fal’Cie Sanchez

    Noel reminds me of Nero

    • Sakurazaki

I was actually expecting JYB to voice him or something, lol.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Noricragma-Otherworld-Chronicles/100002345787640 Noricragma Otherworld Chronicl

About time now we can look forward to Versus.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Danette-Sheron/100001563158266 Danette Sheron

This is coming out before Versus and Type-0? Heck, will those other two games ever come out?

    • Joanna

Type-0? no. I believe it’s releasing sometime this summer/fall in Japan so it should be out before XIII-2, unless SE delays it. Versus? yes. Nomura said do not expect it this year. Perhaps in 2012, if we are lucky. Maybe early 2013 if we are not.

  • Learii

i rather buy versus 13 then this
