Minecraft Being Crafted For Kinect, Headed Exclusively To Xbox 360

By Ishaan . June 6, 2011 . 10:30am

Minecraft is headed exclusively to the Xbox 360 with Kinect integration this winter, Microsoft announced at their E3 media presentation today. We’ll have more details on this front as they become available.

Yeah… That hurt me right there. And then they showed Disney, that hurt me further… And now we’re seeing Star Wars Kinect and I believe they finished me off pretty well…

Is it just me who’s completely turned off here?

Did my post just not go through?

Anyhow… Minecraft on Kinect hurts me Notch. Then Disney hurt me brain further… Then Star Wars hurt me more and I’m not even a big Star Wars fan…

At least Sesame Street looks fine for little kids to play, comparatively to Disneyland…
(I dislike double posts so I’m pretty much emptying my other one)

    • OneOkami

I actually found the Star Wars Kinect (and probably even moreso the Kinect Sports) demo amusing for just how badly the motion sensing effects lag. You’re pretty much just performing the motion then watching an in-game replay of it.  The only thing that really interests me is the voice recognition for my Commander Shepherd’s dialog choices in Mass Effect 3.

      • malek86

… which could have probably been done with the standard, cheap headset microphone.

        Very annoying.

        • Testsubject909

And I keep having flashbacks of Lifeline…

          • OneOkami

I really enjoyed that game.  One of my favorites.

          • Testsubject909

I like it too honestly speaking. Very amusing to play, but not because it works well. Because it doesn’t work…

Seriously, lots of fun. Rio’s not a bad girl either, but because of the not-quite-functioning tech, she comes off as a bit… dysfunctional.

  • How did Microsoft keep this secret? Exclusively on Android and Xbox now, wow. Minecraft is moving on up.

    • Testsubject909

Quite. Personally I’d get it for Android for on the go play.
At home, my laptop works fine for Minecraft and there are various ways to implement an Xbox controller to control Minecraft on your PC.

  • Testsubject909

Might as well use it to talk about something else if I can’t delete repeat posts… Full edit.

Putting Minecraft’s surprise aside. There’s very little surprises here.

Dance Central 2’s coming, which is good. The best Kinect game gets a better sequel? That’s good news for Kinect owners who like dancing.

And… A NEW Halo trilogy starting with Halo 4?

    Why? …Just… Why? …Right, profit… Why?

    • Halo is Microsoft’s flagship series. The fact that Reach sold over 8 million copies means that there are plenty of people who like it. Why wouldn’t they keep making more?

Just because you don’t like it or are sick of it or whatever doesn’t mean Microsoft should stop making it. Different strokes for different folks.

      • Testsubject909

The idea as to why they wouldn’t keep making more, or more specifically, would stop making a linear continuation of it.

Is because the Halo story is pretty much done and over. Bungie left it and Microsoft is now picking it up and starting a painful milking process… If they’re unwise. And I have my doubts on whether they’ll be wise here. They’ll end up… Bah, you know what?

I made enough comments around, had enough conversations. Read around.

        You’ll figure it out.

  • …That sounds pretty exhausting.

    • Testsubject909

Look on the bright side. After you’re done building your tower of ultimate craftsmanship, you’ll be so used to the motion that you could karate chop anyone to death.

      • I have a feeling that the Kinect usage will be completely optional. They want to appeal to as many people as they can. Allowing controller support will do just that.

  • karasuKumo

I bloody knew it, this morning I was wondering how long it would be before it ended up on consoles. I thought it would look best on the 3DS but whatever lol.

    • Testsubject909

I expect it to eventually make it’s way to the Move.

Better controls, I can guarantee that. The brighter side in terms of Kinect control though is Ghost Recon.

An actually interesting and functional way of controlling guns.

  • gatotsu911

Kinda wondering how long this “exclusivity” will last. If the game is anywhere near as successful on 360 as it’s been on PC, I’m guessing not long.

    • Testsubject909

Probably a year or two. That’s how temporary exclusivity has been to date.

  • lostinblue

It’s also coming to android platforms so a ARM port will essentially be done; and NGP is ARM based and higher spec’ed than most ARM platforms out there.

    I bet it’s timed exclusive.

    • malek86

Maybe it’s just console exclusive. Remember, Microsoft doesn’t seem to care much about portables. They even made a few games for DS.

      • lostinblue

I doubt that. M$ has the habit of doing timed exclusives. 1 year afterwards (or even 6 months) there will be no reason not to release it elsewhere.

        Providing it did well enough.

    • SlashZaku

You have to listen to the wording with some of these announcements.  Didn’t he say ‘console debut this holiday season’?  Sounds timed.

      • lostinblue

        yup. my point exactly.

  • ffboi7

Though it’s coming out on the 360 I’m not sure how successful it will be. I own the PC version already and it’s great because your allowed to use mods. With the Kinect chances are its gonna allow you to bring real life objects into the game structures kind of like how the PC version can do already

    • Testsubject909

Don’t forget, you’ll need to repurchase Minecraft, and without the whole Alpha deal of “Get all the updates for free”. You might need to re-purchase Minecraft a few times.

      • ffboi7

Wait so those who bought it during Alpha deal don’t get free updates no more?? I bought it when that deal was still going on. Would be a shame if the free updates are no longer happening.

        • Testsubject909

          I think you misread me…

Alpha purchases get the free updates. Notch is legally bound to respect that, he has no choice BUT to give us the free updates or it’s his head on a silver plate.

What I mean is. Consider that if you get it for 360. You’ll most likely need to purchase it again for the 360 via XBLA. And then probably purchase every updates afterwards because Notch is greedy…

          • You’re confusing Notch with Microsoft.  If Notch was greedy, he wouldn’t have made the mod api free after people complained.

          • ffboi7

hahahaha okay i got worried there for a second. And yeah I did misread your comment. Oh well good thing I got it during the Alpha deal xD. I don’t know about having to repurchasing the game again but having to buy DLC yeah I can see that happening.

    • Vanilla Minecraft is more than fun enough for plenty of people, including myself. I can see lots of people who haven’t gotten around to getting the PC version picking this up. I don’t think they’re trying to target people like us who have already been playing the PC version extensively.

  • BadenBadenPrinny

    I’ll stick to PC

    • Don’t play it, I guess?

I’ll never understand how people get upset when developers make a game more accessible to everyone.

  • Hahahaha! So much for FortressCraft.

  • “exclusively to the Xbox 360”

Strange… I’ve been playing it on PC for almost a year now…

  • I’m debating on buying it for the console or not, I’ll wait for a demo. I think this is great news but I’m concerned with how the multiplayer will be implemented into it, so I’m hesitant as of right now.

    • Just play it on PC… if you’re not already.

      • Definitely am playing it on PC, but I think the whole kinect implementation would be something neat and worthy to buy it.

  • ninjaonizuka

microsoft FAIL xD now fanboys are gunna say ha we have minecraft and u dont… but wait i have this on pc :3 so lolno this isn’t exclusive xD

    • Tell them Minecraft is on Mac and watch them crap themselves.
