By Ishaan . June 6, 2011 . 1:58pm

Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition has a release window. The game is due out on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this summer, for 1,200 Microsoft Points, or $14.99.

Third Strike Online Edition is a downloadable game, but Capcom USA say it has the highest budget of any downloadable game they’ve created. They released a new trailer and screenshots for the game today:

This is insane, 15 dollars for this great game? Hopefully the game will make a come back.

This news is better than E3 >_<

  • ffboi7

  • RagnaXBL

Woah did i see youtube sharing!? i must be dreaming!!

    • Re10

Wow, I missed that. The features before it were what I expected so I stopped paying attention I guess when they revealed that.

Third Strike is definitely the best Street Fighter in the series. Much better than IV.

    • thaKingRocka

I like it, but I prefer ST. Of course, this is because I think the parry system automatically breaks the game. IV is a fun game, but it just doesn’t do for me what ST does.

      • http://www.facebook.com/jstack Jon Stachewicz

The parry system balances out because of how difficult it is to use effectively.  The skill level required to use it so well that it becomes game-breaking is enormous.  Videos like the famous Daigo Full Parry might say otherwise but that was seriously like a once in a lifetime deal

        • thaKingRocka

Early on in the life of SF3, before 2I or 3S, an opponent parried my entire super art. I quit playing it in arcades, feeling that while the skill level necessary to break the game was well beyond my own, it would not be beyond the skill level of the average Chinatown Fair opponent. I object to it on principle regardless. There should be absolutely NO gamebreaking techniques whatsoever. Hell, I don’t even think cross-ups or combos beyond three are reasonable elements, and I love fighting games.

It’s perhaps a once in a life time deal at a tournament, at that level, but I personally parried whole supers back in my prime. The real challenge of Third Strike came much later, when all the top players could pretty much parry anything you threw at them. That’s when the ground was level again, and the real game emerged.

    • HistorysGreatestMonster

Personally, I think Alpha 3 is the best of the series.

Third Strike I didn’t like until I was able to play with the extra options a bit and turned off parrying, turned on air-blocking, and allowed characters to have more than one super available.

      • PrinceHeir

hell yeah Alpha 3 all the way, though kinda wish the A-ism last just as short as Alpha 2.

plus you can parry, provided you lose one bar and can still be punished if parry it and follow up with a wrong move.

        cannot wait for this :P

I see you in the air when I make you back-flip

  • Exand

So I’ve seen the “highest budget of any downloadable game” piece many times regarding this game, but I’ve yet to see what makes it so high? I’m not asking to be disparaging, I’m genuinely curious.

Oh well, grabbing AE when it hits tomorrow, then 3S when it hits later in the summer. Yay for summer gaming.

    • puchinri

Ya know, I was reading comments in regards to Megaman 9 and 10 by one of the guys at Capcom USA, and he talked about expensive it was for them to be making Megaman even and how they weren’t cheap about it. Now that they’re saying this, I wonder if there’s a reason as to why they’re so heavily emphasizing how expensive/big the budget is for their downloadable games.

      • http://www.creativelifeform.com Rohan Deshpande

The R&D required for making the net code for this game as flawless as it needs to be would be a huge cost. Third Strike, more than any other fighting game, relies on precision timing and split second decisions. They know that this one is only for the hardcore fans. If they muck up the net code / buffering and parries etc., the people who this game is marketed to won’t stand for it.

        • puchinri

That makes sense. By as to why they’re going to such lengths to make sure everyone knows how expensive all these downloadable games are is the weird part to me. I would think the quality of the game says enough. There’s no need to go and make sure people know that they put so much money into them.

  • Kris

Well… the cover certainly depicts who people will be playing pretty well!
    Sarcasm aside, so hype! :D

  • 128bitigor

“Capcom USA say it has the highest budget of any downloadable game they’ve created.”
Obviously they haven’t created many downloadable titles then…

  • city_debut

Highest budget in a downloadable game went to a sprite filter?

  • evilhero

It’s worth noting that 3sO will support GGPO netcode, something people in the FG community have been screaming for for a long time.
