Peel Your Eyes Open For A Paper Mario 3D Trailer And Screens

They haven’t really talked about it, but Nintendo are also creating a Paper Mario game for the Nintendo 3DS. Like its predecessors, it’s being developed at Intelligent Systems. Other than that, there’s virtually no information available on the game, so infer what you will from the trailer and screenshots.

Actually, if you happen to have a 3DS, I’d recommend downloading the 3D trailers for Paper Mario, Kid Icarus and Mario Kart; they look pretty neat.

I’m glad they’re going back to the RPG format.

  • Suicunesol

Yeah, I second that. If you own a 3DS, you should at least watch the Paper Mario trailer in 3D. The paper slicing segment near the end where the screen is cut into paper pieces that float to the ground is really surprising.

    • Exkaiser

      Yeah, it was really well-done.

The 3D, at least from the trailer, was quite classy overall. Works well with the stylings of Paper Mario.

Most wanted 3DS game right here.

I’m gonna have to sell a kidney at this rate. The 3DS is getting some good looking games, the ps vita is a steal at 249 and the wii u is due out next year, and then theres all the games coming out in the next year.

This game is going to be the one that will make me want to buy a 3DS the most. I plan on getting one, but I still have to buy a PS3 and now a Wii U. Darn Nintendo stop making good games.

Every time I hear that chime at the end of all the 3DS trailers I immediately think of the Chime at the end of every Intel commercial. It’s actually a little annoying.

    1 up toad as partner?

  • gatotsu911

I can’t help but get the feeling that this looks a bit unfinished. The environments and battle system seem awfully stark and lacking in detail compared to the first game. I’m guessing it’s still pretty early in development. I love Paper Mario, though, so I’ll be looking forward to this all the same, even if it might not be out for a while yet.

Also, I’m liking that soundtrack. “Canon in Mario”.

that’s probably since a lot of the effects are in 3D, so watch the trailer on a 3DS, it’s awesome

I’m sure the 3D effects add a bit to it, but the environments are still pretty stark and simplistic, even for Paper Mario. On top of that there are no battle partners, a grand total of one or two NPCs shown, and no dialogue. I’m not even mentioning the undetailed battle displays, because I’m simply assuming that battle information will be displayed on the bottom screen. It’s not that I’m particularly worried about the game or anything – I trust Intelligent Systems. It’s just that considering it doesn’t even have a finalized title or release date, I’m guessing it’s still fairly early in development.

Is that really fair? In a game like Paper Mario, are scissors not the most lethal weapon the world has ever known?

    • Exkaiser

Ultimate weapon will be the paper shredder from the first game’s commercial.

  • Jirin

I liked the platformer format more.  I only like turn based combat if it’s a bit more strategically complicated than it should be in a Mario game.

Nice one! Now this is some compelling content.

Will Goombario return? (I hope so…)

EDIT: They only have trailers for Dead or Alive: Dimensions & The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D in the UK eShop.

    • Exkaiser

      They’ll have a new know-it-all goomba partner.

Goombuigi. He’ll have a massive inferiority complex because you’ll only use him to Tattle and then bench him again.

  • Mischah

Is it certain that Intelligent systems will include partners like they did in the other games? I mean, Mario is alone most of the time in the trailer, and the partners I’ve seen with him in PM3DS (chain chomp, toad) are generic. Not unique like the partners in previous iterations of paper mario. Perhaps the shown partners are only temporary/replaceable?

  • Masengan

Love the Paper Mario games, will try my best to get a 3DS or at least borrow one so I can play the latest one.
