We have comparison shots of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker’s PSP and HD Collection versions, too. In case you missed them earlier, you can see the comparison shots for Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 in a post we put up earlier today.

If it weren’t for the dithering in the PSP version, I’d see no difference at all.

  • Pretty sure you will be able to tell the difference at 720p on a 40″+ screen…

    • Why would you run 720p on a 40 inch screen. Those would be xbox sized pixels. At least get some 1080p on that.

      • You’re joking right… Most all games are still 720p…

        • I know that. I was actually referring to playing 720p on a 40 inch tv though mostly.

          • That’s not really an issue though. There isn’t a large difference between 720p and 1080p (and if you are displaying 720p content at 1080p you’re just upscaling anyways) and they make 720p native tvs at 40″ anyways.

The point is that you can’t tell the difference in a shrunken screenshot that is  the same size for both images.  But on a large display and at a higher resolution (which the psp version is not) the difference will be much larger…

          • I see what you are saying.

          • Exkaiser

You do know that you can click on the images to get full size versions, right?

            Example: http://storage.siliconera.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/peacewalker_compare_01.jpg

          • Viewing a 720p image on whatever physical size the image is displayed on your monitor is not 1:1 with viewing it on a 720p or 1080p television at 40″+…..

Apparently I’m talking crazy here or something… So I give up…

  • Just slight colour filter changes, but otherwise, I see no difference.

  • I see a pretty big difference.  You have to realize that the polygon count (aka the actual graphics) aren’t being changed, it’s the hardware resolution limitations that are.  You can see jagged lines along the models on the psp version, while the HD facelifts are unrestricted and smooth.

  • Ok now the differences ….?

DAMN! MGS:PW is so damn good ;)

  • RupanIII

I just hope it controls better on the PS3. The controls and the camera system kept me from finishing it on PSP.

Same here. I couldn’t care less about it being prettied up; I just want to be able to control it comfortably.

  • The major difference I can spot is the difference in display resolution; 3D models look the same. Personally, I wouldn’t mind that, since I’d be getting three games in one disc. That said, since Kojima has already promised a remaster for Peace Walker, he’ll have to follow on his words.

  • Blocky Fingers, ack, I cant buy this. Konami should do Yugioh GX Tag Force HD ports. Day 1!

    • Or at least even a HD Tag Force for the PS3!

    • Exkaiser

But the tag force games have Blocky Finger Syndrome, too! It’s even more noticeable because they’re always holding the cars up to the screen.

  • Lacry

    Psp version is better…

  • The main thing to take from this it that it is scaling to a larger size well.
But the PS3 make it has less jaggles too.

  • HistorysGreatestMonster

Don’t really care if it’s better looking or not. All I know is that I can finally play Peace Walker on my PS3 and for that, I am happy.

  • Aoshi00

I bet it would make a heck of a difference when you hook up the PSP to the TV (pixelated and boxed in by black bars all around) and this.. and most importantly a 2nd analog stick so sorely needed for a hectic shooter, I just couldn’t play this game using either the face btns or the claw position at all even though I so much wanted to as I loved 3… I’m glad Kojima finally make this happen. And finding people to play co-op via PSN should be easier.

Just have to decide whether to get on the 360 or PS3, since I’m more comfortable playing shooters w/the 360 controller now..

    • HistorysGreatestMonster

How much of a shooter is Peace Walker, though? Up until MGS4, I wouldn’t have considered the games to be in the shooter category. 2 & 3, in fact, I see them as games where the less you shoot, the better. Is Peace Walker like them or very gun-happy, like 4?

      • Aoshi00

The couple of bosses I’ve played are at least, you need to stop a tank and hordes of soldiers, that’s why co-op is preferable.  But yea, sometimes if you’re spotted and you need to fight your way out..  I just wasn’t good w/ the PW control at all.. best way to play is to sneak by of course but you could do run and gun if you like, like MGS4.

  • You’d obviously notice the difference if you connected your PSP to the screen vs running it at the native PS3 size.

Peace Walker was already a great looking game, but it didn’t look so hot when stretched to a TV.

  • eilegz

the same as before upscaled , less jaggies, and more smoth. graphically its almost the same…

dual analog was needed for this game.

  • God, it looks better on my 1000.
