Create Your Own Stage In Tekken For Wii U

By Ishaan . June 13, 2011 . 10:28am

Tekken is coming to both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. At E3, Nintendo showed a short interview with Tekken series director, Katsuhiro Harada, who went over some of the ideas his team has in mind for the Wii U version of the game.

In Tekken, you earn Fight Money after each fight, which allows you to unlock more content within the game. Harada feels an  interesting way for players to earn Fight Money would be to create custom stages using the Wii U controller, and to sell their stages online, with buyers paying in Fight Money.

Another neat idea is the idea of editing stages in the middle of a fight. Harada also talks about player-tagging and customization, and the ability to play two different games simultaneously, using the TV and the Wii U controller; although it sounds like he’s referring to two different games entirely, not two separate Tekken matches.

Tekken on Wii U doesn’t have a release date yet, nor do we know just which Tekken game it will be.

You mean I can make them fight at Bowser’s castle or make the background look like Sesame Street or Wonder Pets?  Awesome !

From what I’ve heard the game is going to be Tekken 6 BR.  So pretty much the same game PS360 owners have had since late 2009.

Being able to doodle on your opponents face after beating them is a pretty cool feature.  Too bad, Tekken 6’s online is kinda bleh.  Reminds me of Azusa Shiratori.

actually, i hope it is, may be with a new netcode.
nothing are convincing me to buy this console just yet.

I wouldn’t find it too realistic to hope for better online play on a nintendo console than what’s out for 360/PS3.  Would be pretty cool if they could though.

But yeah.  Tekken 6 BR is really the best/only option available, even if by the time the system launches BR is pretty much a 4 year old game from when it hit arcades.

Namco will always develop new Tekken games for arcade as a first priority, and 7 is still a long ways away, as it seems they’ll be putting more immediate work into Tekken X Street Fighter.

      • Doubtful. Just because its on a new console doesn’t mean it will get a new netcode. Would be cool if it happened but doubtfull

  • isn’t the tekken money is the feature already featured since Tekken 5? or Tekken 4?

  • KeyCross

It would be awesome to make them fight in “Final Destination” of SMBBrawl. Yeah, I know that´s highly unlikely…

Oh, you get paid by fighting…perhaps in the future you can steal their wallet!

  • I’m not a fan of the bg stages, as of this writing; I’d much rather see stages, inspired by other Namco Bandai IPs like Super Robot Wars, Ar tonelico, Summon Night, Tales, Pac-Man, and of course, Tekken, to name a few.

New features or not this game is still largely based off of Tekken 6, which one I already own and played enough of and two will be even more ancient by the time Wii U comes out. Its going to take a lot more then year old (or later) ports of games available on systems I already own to convince me to buy the Wii U.

so this is basically a other version of Tekken Tag?

hopefully we get that and this too :P

  • XypherCode

whew another can’t wait game! :)

  • Mario 1-1, please.

  • This must be the most bastardized version of Tekken since the Wonderswan.

  • Lol sounds fun. This may be the reason why I MIGHT get a 3DS. Plus PLP.

  • Impressive! Glad to see the Wii U get some Tekken that isn’t necessarily at a full fledged port.^_^

  • 2 games at once playing one console … that’s neat … I want to see it
