Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 Is In The "Near Future"

By Spencer . June 14, 2011 . 1:57pm

sonic4The only Sonic games Sega brought to E3 were Sonic Generations and Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Since Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 was nowhere to be found I asked Takashi Iizuka, Producer of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and Sonic Generations, how the project is progressing.

"We named Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, so there will be an episode 2. Since this year is the 20th anniversary of Sonic we wanted to focus on Sonic Generations," Iizuka answered.

"It won’t be like Half-Life 2: Episode Three," I joked, but Iizuka didn’t get it. A bit embarrassed, I clarified and explained how there was a gap in years between Episode Two and Three.

"We don’t have a release date or anything," said Iizuka. "But, we can tell you it will be in the near future."

For what it’s worth, I thought that was a pretty good line. I guess it just doesn’t cross the Pacific so well.

    •  Let them actually release episode two before making that remark.

Lol, that would be embarrassing if you made a joke and the other person doesn’t get it… Anyways, I still need to buy Sonic 4: Episode 1…=/

But Generations seems like it’s going to hands down me a awesome Sonic game that will do Sonic 20th Anniversary justice! =D

  • Aw Mr. Spencer :(

Anyway, it must be difficult for them to decide where to go with Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2. Its so interesting when contrasting Sonic and Mario and how, just about everyone in the fanbase is never split on Marios never changing gameplay, but the fanbase is consistently split on Sonic. I guess it shows how people are afraid of change.

  • I wonder how many episodes are planning to make.
Speaking of Sonic 4, I finally got the 7th chaos emerald in yesterday. I don’t recall how many times I played that special stage.

  • I got all 7 chaos emeralds the day i bought it and never played it again.  If episode 2 plays like classic sonic in Sonic Generations then i will get it, i was also disappointed in the bosses in the game.

  • I was wondering if they were ever going to make an episode 2.

There’s a word I learned called “momentum” that might be useful in a game like this.  They might want to look into it before making episode 2.

  • Unless they fix the physics, no one is going to go back to this after Sonic Generations.

You know I’m going to be honest, after seeing generations and reading multiple positive hands on my interest in this “piece meal” game is dwindling fast. Honestly why should I keep buying pieces of a classic style Sonic game when I can just buy generations and get that plus new style stages as well. Honestly I wish Sega would just put the rest of the episodes together and sell it as a retail game for Vita and 3DS.
