Finally, A Look At Otomedius Excellent’s Pillowcase Collector’s Edition

By Ishaan . June 20, 2011 . 8:33pm

That, up there, is the Otomedius Excellent collector’s edition we’ve been talking about for so long now. Amazon updated their product page for the game with a picture of the $50 set. It includes an art book, a double-sided pillowcase, and a soundtrack CD.

Meanwhile, the regular edition of Otomedius Excellent will cost $30. Both the regular and collector’s edition will be released on July 19th. The game has support for up to three players either online via Xbox Live or locally. Friends can help you obtain items that are hard to get.

    Thats a really small pillow

either it was shrunk down for display purposes (so that it doesn’t look all massive next to the game + CD) or it really is that small.

Which really makes me wonder HOW this CE will get distributed. So far no evidence of a larger box to store everything. However, it’s inconvenient for retailers to handle all these bonus items separately…

At this point anyway I’m thinking the game alone will do it for me. Very little storage room for this kind of stuff anymore… :(

im hoping in a discreet brown paper bag.

    • Yukito

Nah, it’s a really big game.

Well, if I can read correctly its just the pillow case…

Spencer/Ishaan! You guys missed out the most important part of the updated listing: Amazon now says August 30th 2011 (and gamestop says July 20th FWIW)

    DELAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

      What NOOOOOOO~!
Well, at least we’ll all have Catherine to keep us occupied until late August…

And here I thought it was actually going to be a dakimakura.

Haha, just noticed that they put up the CE’s details today. Am excited because I pre-ordered as soon as the CE was made available.

Not really digging all of the CE exclusives, but I want to get the collector’s edition to show my support for Japanese shmups in the USA.

Where have I seen that art…

    • CoolChibi

Sgt. Frog/Keroro Gunso. The creator of that did the character designs for this game.

Ah, now I definitely see it

So, who thought it was a good idea to bring this over? I mean, I might buy it just to support Konami, but seriously.

    • Ladius

People are always whining over the lack of shmup in the west, I won’t complain when finally someone decides to localize one :P

    • http://denpanosekai.blogspot.com denpanosekai

      Very good idea. Don’t hate.

      • http://honorless.net honorless

It’s a snarky comment, but don’t pretend Firo doesn’t have a point. Even if shmups sold like hotcakes over here, the Otomedius games are almost universally acknowledged as mediocre. This isn’t Parodius…or Deathsmiles. Even I have to admit I’m hesitant, though I’ll probably end up with it anyway if I can spare the income.

Konami seems to be banking entirely on the otaku crowd and diehard losers like yours truly. Actually, Otomedius could probably be likened to various Idea Factory RPGs—most people think they’re crap, but there’s a tiny, rabidly loyal fanbase for ‘em. Maybe that’ll pan out, though. Who knows what Konami’s sales expectations are?

        • http://denpanosekai.blogspot.com denpanosekai

I’ve only played Otomedius once in the arcade and I quite liked it. I’m not one for snobbish STG reviews. For instance I’m loving the  $%$^! out of Bullet Soul even though it’s “universally acknowledged as mediocre”.

But yeah I know it’s nowhere near Deathsmiles. Which reminds me, so much hate for the sequel, yet I think it’s one of the best STGs I’ve ever played.

  • Samken

and here i was hoping for a dakimakura and not a small pillow :(

  • Mister_Nep

I don’t have a 360, but I went ahead and pre-ordered this. Why? Because I wanna show I care about shmups. If I don’t buy it then….there’s really next to no one else that will.

  • M’iau M’iaut

Such genius being able to sneak nekomimi in, even when she ain’t wearing nekomimi!

    bring it to the UK with the collector’s edition ;_;

  • malek86

My region-lock senses are tingling. Has anybody said anything about bringing this in EU?

  • Guest

I really hope this special edition finds its way to Europe.

  • SupaPhly

is this getting a PAL release?

  • PrinceHeir

if Castlevania Harmony of Despair made it on PS3, i pray this will also come :)

plus this reminds me of Bizarre 5 Jelly in NMH. now i can experience No More Heroes and this at the same time O_O

  • TanyaRei

TThey couldnt have put that label above the pillow?

  • Deckard22

Do want that Soundtrack though i need a 360 , i have doubts it’ll get any ports though
