Giant Gorilla Vegeta Gives Goku The Finger In Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Tenkaichi

By Ishaan . June 30, 2011 . 10:11am

For a couple of months now, Namco Bandai have been teasing something called “Dragon Ball Game Project Age 2011,” effectively a new, untitled Dragon Ball game. The goal of this game, according to the project’s teaser site, was to make players feel like they’ve become the series’ characters.

The game now has a title, revealed by Namco Bandai Games Europe. Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Tenkaichi is a fighting game being developed by Spike. You can watch a trailer for it above.

Namco Bandai mention destructible battlefields and ki blasts going across the sky to make the game feel more dynamic. They have Ultimate Tenkaichi Z slated for an October 28th release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in Europe.

Hope it has all the BT3 charactersthen lol or most of them plus some new ones.

  • That was the best name out of the ones available! I still have not yet to get a DBZ game. I never did make it far in the anime.

    • Asura

Try the manga if you don’t want to waste months of your life watching the same scene.

Though DBZ has no merits beyond being “classic” honestly.

      • Oh my, the trailer was so good that I think I might just play through this game then if I find the story compelling will check out the anime.

“Though DBZ has no merits beyond being “classic” honestly.”

I’m afraid we’ll have to take this outside, sir.

    • Just watch Dragon Ball Kai. Cuts out a good chunk of the filler, though the Namek arc still drags on a bit.

You better hope your body can take it.

  • Shinji Kazuya

Looks like a good Dragon Ball Z as one would expect. If it is more than that I will give it a try.

  • I almost forgot; Dragon Ball Z is one of those anime where the English voice acting is 9,001 times better than the Japanese.

      • Guest

I can forget him and his cheesy techno rock very easily

      • I can… gladly forget Bruce Falconer, honestly. :I
That’s one of the reasons why I loved the DBZ Remaster box sets.
I could have my English voice acting with the original score.

    • really? sure goku’s voice was kinda annoying, but better than the surfer dudes in the funimation dub…fan of the early ocean work or the japanese…and i hated falconers ost..

      • What!?  Hated…Falconers OST?  Is it possible to combine those 2 words?

    • Guest

You mean chain smoking Vegeta, goofy sounding Goku and the HFIL and “mondo cool” phrases from Krillin?  -9001.

      • Yes, exactly. :)

Anything is better than a hero and his entire family who sound like singing chipmunks.

        • Yeah, ichigos crappy JP dub sucks. Bleach sucks overall.

          • Wow, first hater of Ichigo’s JP voice I’ve ever seen.

          • Sorry @yahoo-VIE53RJZBUZGA4LP5AAUPKGQL4:disqus but I have to vehemently disagree!!! Ichigo sounds amazing in both JPN and ENG. Bleach is the best anime ever, overall!

      • Yeah… basically. ♥

  • At this point does anyone really care. The games keep selling worst reach time they release them. I just hope this game has all the content it should have. All the characters from BT3 plus the ones from RB2.

  • malek86

Ah, Dragon Ball games. The only medium where Goku SSJ3 can be defeated by a Saibaiman.

I’m not particularly excited though, probably because I didn’t like the Budokai games much. Now, about that Super DBZ…

  • AzureNova

I couldn’t help but to check this out because of the name of the article, and also did anyone else notice how Yamcha epic failed almost instantaneously XD

    • malek86

Yamcha’s entire life is an epic fail, at least in the manga. The guy can’t catch a break. He can’t win a single fight either.

      • Exkaiser

He’ll never get to land his Wolf Fang Fist.

      • Crimson_Cloud

He also lost Bulma. Talk about double failure. Shame thought, I like his design. Well lets be fair, he won against some unnamed characters in tournament sagas. ;)

  • I wish they would port Zenkai Battle Royale Sparking instead of reusing the Tenkaichi system. That game would be so much fun online.

  • epy

I hope someday these localizations get the original music, I end up importing because I can’t get into that… “rock” they use.

    • puchinri

Whoa, wait, they don’t use the original music in the DBZ games? Like, they haven’t in any of them?

      • jourdal

The JP tenkaichi/sparking games used the animes music. The US ost’s were replaced with new tracks which weren’t that bad imo

        • puchinri

          Ohh. Huh.

    • I don’t know where YOU cam from, but all DBZ games had the original soundtrack. The opening themes are always altered though.

      • Guest

Ehh hold on there bud….The Namco Bandai SPIKE developed “Sparking!” PS2 games had the original Toei DBZ TV soundtrack in the Japanese versions. When they came to the U.S. as the “Budokai Tenkaichi” series, they threw in other music; mostly rock and sometimes even recycled music from Namco Gundam games due to not wanting to pay for royalty fees (twice).

The Namco Bandai Budokai series developed by DIMPS had an all original soundtrack that was developed by a Japanese team and they hired 80’s Toto guitarist Steve Lukather. Both versions featured the same music except for the Hironobu Kageyama vocalist removed and replaced by vocal instrumentals.

  • puchinri

Is this being developed by CC2? Because Gori-Vegeta was giving me Asura’s Wrath vibes. Otherwise, I kind of want it.

    • Nope, Spike.

      • Guest

Who developed the recent Arcade game?

      • puchinri

        Ahh. I guess they’re channeling CC2 maybe…? Well, CC2 and Team Ico.

  • Chaheezor

Here we go again, another game Dragon Ball game by spike…I’d love it if they actually made more than 4 characters in this game…but they won’t, they’ll just keep on with the same 4 characters whilst putting different skins on them and changing their names (−_−#)

  • Crimson_Cloud

If I saw something hundred times it would be Yamcha being blown up by Saiberman. Same stuff will happen again, developers will pump up something (in this case graphics) while forgetting/messing up something else (probably story mode) again.

  • joesz

I just can’t take Goku seriously in japanese.

    • Guest

I just can’t take you seriously in English

      • joesz

You have to admit that his English voice is better then his Japanese voice.

        • Guest

Actually I refuse to admit that because imo it simply isn’t true.

Goku’s JPN voice is supposed to be of childlike innocence. Thats why no matter what his age is, he sounds playful and childlike. Like Jackie Chan in a way (who was a direct inspiration for the creation of Goku from Akira Toriyama (aside from the Monkey King of course).
Its that unique voice that separates him from other characters.
The English voice just sounds like an Angry Jewish man (no offense).

Goku’s JPN voice is done by one of Japans most famous Seiyuus.

She’s like in her 80’s and was also the voice of Pidge from Golion (Voltron) and more famously Doraemon cartoon.

She even has her own voice actor school.

          • Sounds annoying and no matter how “young at heart” you are you’re still going to sound adult

          • Chaheezor

If I may interject, I watched both Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z in Japanese and I noticed that Goku’s voice does in fact mature. The voice gets deeper but still brings out his childlike innocence, granted it is higher pitched than most males but if you really listen you’ll notice it.

          • Guest

Except “annoying” is subjective and more importantly this isn’t a show based exactly on reality (besides the fact you can probably find examples of adults who have childlike voices) so….

          • Howdy Howdy

We all know Goku’s character is supposed to be naive and childlike. It doesn’t mean his japanese voice is better because he sounds like a two year old :/. Do all fanboys have no sense?

          • Guest

The Japanese Seiyuu is a better and more renowned voice actor. Period. Throw your hate elsewhere

          • Cody Skater

i have to go with howdy howdy i watch tons of subbed anime and i like most of thier voices but when i watched a subbed episode the first dragon ball z 1 it just sounded horrible. goku and his dad who i will point out doesnt have gokus child like side sounded like a girl. the person who does the voice acting isnt bad but doesnt fit the role of goku at all mabey a girl or child character but not goku. and i thought i would aslo point out that knowing if a anime or show and what not is good is entirely based on subjective thinking in the entertainment world thats how things are jugded. and when you bring out the arguement that its not reality you know your grasping at straws in an agruement yes we all know that but just cause it isnt real doesnt mean they can do whatever the hell they want there are still some rules we expect them to follow if goku was girl all of a sudden you wouldnt like that right and while that is an extreme example it follows the same principle you put up about it not being real. if i wanted to i could pick apart all the arguements you made but what it really comes down to is you didnt like his opinion so you got pissy about it its ok to disagree with someone but dont tell them there opinion is wrong cause you dont like it then try to rasionalize it.

        • Sean Schemmel sucks.

    • Masengan

You get used to it, I did when watching DBK.

  • Aoshi00

Looks good, I hope in the game they keep Gohan and Kuririn for bouncing off the genki-dama to hit Vegeta :)  I like Burst Limit okay, hope this would have a really good story mode.

  • The NA region so better get the capsule as a preorder gift got all the Dragon Balls 1-7 from strapya

  • anbu

    I’m missing the budokai series.

    • Me too, but that was years ago. Game series typically don’t last forever, you have to move on. Hopefully this game would be just as good, if not better.
