Tales of the Abyss Travels To Europe In November

Don’t worry, Europe; you’re getting Tales of the Abyss this year, too. Namco Bandai Games Europe announced the game for Europe and Australia this week, planned for a November 10th release.

Abyss released in Japan last week, so we’ll probably see it on the coming week’s software sales chart. It should be quite interesting to see how it does. In the mean time, you can catch up on our past coverage using the game’s tag.

As a European I may as well speak for all of us and say: Great!! :D
Look closely at the smiley it’s far happier than normal happy smilies!

    • Shinji Kazuya

Very true. Can’t wait for November now! I’ll probably be done with Xenoblade Chronicles by then so this is awsome! :>

  • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

I wonder when the US release will be, didnt see a date in the tags.

  • Nyron

Awesome, now Europe wll have to suffer through this game a second time too

    • amagidyne

      A second time, huh?

    • SirRichard

For the first time, actually. We never got the PS2 release.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TFFH26BXL6KZIL2RO33GNDPKMU Nicholas

Suffer?  This game is the best in the series to me, it was awesome.  The plot was consistent all the way through unlike the 3 thrown together stories of Vesperia (although I liked it too, the storyline just felt thrown together).  The main character Luke grows considerably through the game, I actually hated the guy at first, but he became one of my favorite jrpg characters.

      • Nyron

I think you have it backwards on a few points.
        a. Luke starts off great and becomes more and more horrible as the game goes on
        b. This is the worst in the series, though I’ve never played Vesperia or the Japanese only ones(though Innocence, Hearts, Rebirth and ToD2/ToD remake are supposed to be good)

        • RJ1234567890

You consider him being a selfish whiny asshole to be ‘”great”. I admit that I do like it when JRPGs give us a main character who isn’t a perfect model citizen, but that doesn’t always mean it’s better. His only positive quality before his change, was that he actually talked back to people. Yuri from Vesperia also has this trait, but he’s also a much more likeable character.

          • ShinGundam

For some reason, i can’t even remember any MC as perfect model citizen in any RPG beside the one that feature a karma system.

          • IsaacGravity

Funny thing is, [long-haired] Luke wasn’t all that bad a guy when compared to the likes of Tear and Jade at that point in the game (though they get even worse but yeah). Tear esp grated me. Most of my reasons for liking (and strongly sympathizing with) [short-haired] Luke was out of pity and how much perseverance he has. I mean…

Seriously, every time someone brings up what “a big whiny jerkface” Luke was or “what a suicidal emo moron” he became and ignoring the even more massive, super hypocritical, multi-standard assholes (and Guy) the poor guy guy was forced to be around I facepalm, HARD. Hilarious that the game shoved “make your own choices, forge your own destiny” down Luke and the players throats but there was no destiny altering to be made!

I… I could go on a massive rant about how this was a great GAME (in terms of gameplay, awesome battle system, music, loads of stuff to do, just how immersive the game world and its personal mythos is etc) however to do that you have to endure an insufferable cast and loads of horrible rage-enduing writing and backwards shoved down your throat morals which does NOT make it worth it. So yeah, Nyron has the floor there but people are free to disagree.

And then you’re seeing this kind of horrible narratives being the trend in RPGs (pretentious plots, flawed moral shades of gray logic and “realism” to spice up said stupidly pretentious plot which only becomes cruelty to the point of being pointless grim-dark rubbish) and people are wondering why they’re “dying”.

            On consoles anyway.

    • Yamaneko22

      Fail.

  • SirRichard

Europe actually getting a Tales game? The times are a-changing, aren’t they?

Can’t wait for it, though, I always wanted to play Abyss. More games for the 3DS are always nice as well.

    • Shinji Kazuya

If you’re a Tales fan you’re gonna love it. Abyss is great! Good story, cool & funny characters and a fun battle system! It’s awsome! :3

    • Ladius

Abyss is my favourite Tales game plot-wise and one of my favourite jrpgs on PS2, everyone even remotely interested in the Tales franchise or in jrpgs should give it a try :)

    • Optical_Matrix

We got Tales of Eternia on PSP over here while the US didn’t. Surprisingly, Ubisoft published it in Europe. Still got my copy. Indeed it’s rare that Europe gets Tales games though. We’ve missed out on Legendia, Abyss and Rebirth (NA didn’t get Rebirth as far as I know, but I managed to pick it up when I was in Japan in the bargain bins at Softmap for 300 yen. Absolute bargain).

Can’t wait for Abyss. Is the Tales game I’ve always been disappointed that I missed out on. November 10th, come quick!

      • darkfox1

Whoah what? Europe got Tales of Eternia on the PSP? Lol I did not even know

        • Optical_Matrix

          http://www.amazon.co.uk/UBI-Soft-Tales-Eternia-PSP/dp/B000BKBHPQ

We did indeed. It was an extremely low key release with a very constrained supply though so hardly anyone seems to have noticed it, especially being Ubisoft who seems like one of the most unlikely candidates to localize the game.

          • shadowind

It was actually a straight port of the PSOne version as far as I know so they would have used the North American version for the EU port.

        • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

You didnt? I had to import it a few years ago from Europe.

      • http://janikosketchblog.tumblr.com/ Janiko

Abyss was good, you were missing noooooothing by not getting Legendia.

  • http://twitter.com/sakurairomemori Alphabet Soup

Now Europe may experience the terror of Van’s eyebrows and Ion’s ballet slippers firsthand. :D

  • Shinji Kazuya

This is awsome indeed. I never finished Tales of the Abyss on the Playstation 2. I stopped at like 60% on the story. It was ’cause I had gotten new games so forgot about Abyss. This time I’ll go till the end. ⁀ω⁀

  • Darkrise

Wasn’t there a mention that NA would be getting it in October/Fall?

  • http://twitter.com/FaithlessMr Bruno Silva

I’m getting a 3DS in tandem with this game :3

  • SolNeko

Always wanted to play this. unfortunately i dont have a 3ds T_T

  • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

I hope it gets released in October (when i will have someone in the US to get me the 3DS)

  • http://twitter.com/AaqibRawat Aaqib Rawat

    Tear grants is so hot

sorry had to put that out there..

this is great news along with the wii games

    man whats next?

huntable dragons in real life XD

    • Shinji Kazuya

      Tear is cool!

    • https://twitter.com/RaiohV ShinkaRaioh

Not huntable! You ride on the smaller ones, train them and then let them fight against the elder god dragons…like an RPG~

  • Rihawf

    Interesting.

  • Balmung

As much as I want this game (ALOT since we didn’t get it on PS2 T_T) I’m not going to buy a 3ds just for one game(not too interested in it’s games list and graphics)

    • Shinji Kazuya

But the good games are yet to come. Mario Kart, Super Mario, Kingdom Hearts, Super Smash Bros., Luigi’s Mansion 2 and a lot more!

      • Balmung

damn I forgot about Kingdom Hearts and Super Smash Bros…. I’ll wait till the 3ds comes really cheap coz I’d much rather get a PSVita

    • http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=2704923 Buntar0

I tend to buy games I want before I get the system, esp. games like Tales that become hard to find or highly expensive after half a year. Did that with PSP, Xbox and PS3 games, never regretted it.

Anyway, great job there Bamco. I’ll get this one for sure (and a 3DS with the next hardware revision)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tien-Ron/100001474007360 Tien Ron

as much as i love tales it’s great news but i just dont like it….. i liked it better on my ps2 when me and my brother could just play…. it’s not the same feeling anymore lol

  • http://twitter.com/Kntheking Kristoffer Nilsson

American gamers better start learning how to import games.
It’s really not that hard. We europeans got used to it all the way back since the SNES, Playstation and so on. We almost never got the good RPGs over here back then.

So why try to sound snide about it by saying “don’t worry europe” ??
The nerve of some people just disgusts me.

    • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

You got mad over “don’t worry europe”?  That sounded neutral to me…

Besides, the 3DS has a region lock, not everybody wants to pay for another handheld.

    • https://twitter.com/RaiohV ShinkaRaioh

In which way was that offending Europeans dude? He just wrote that we don’t have to worry about no being able to play this game…also like Kuronoa said the 3DS is region locked so importing the game without a European 3DS is pretty mute~

Also no it’s not that easy for non Europeans, the Dollar is weak and there are only a handful of Euro Import sites.

  • karasuKumo

All the more reason to buy a 3DS sooner. ^^

  • Avojavo

    NoA, don’t disappoint me now…

… Oh, who am I kidding. They’ve disappointed me with how they treated Operation Rainfall.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Will-Jay/100001526135754 Will Jay

…Nintendo has fucking nothing to do with Tales. Namco Bandai confirmed they’re localizing this.

God, this whole Rainfall thing makes me wish Europe wasn’t even getting the games just to spite those guys.

      • Avojavo

Ah. You are right. Call it the disappointment seeping in and clouding my judgment over many other things.

        My error.

  • http://www.oneltwops.org Santashi

I guess the online retailers were a wee bit out with their dates, but I can totally do 10th November. I’m so excited about this release! Thanks so much for the info.
