Woolies Are Present And Accounted For In Rune Factory 4

By Ishaan . July 4, 2011 . 11:31am

There hasn’t been any info on Rune Factory 4 since its initial reveal last week, but we do have some new screenshots of the Nintendo 3DS game, both of in-game bits and a few from the game’s animated intro.

Let’s see… Fishing? Check. Cool winter snow effects? Check. Woolies? Check!

  • Yay Woolies. ^__^

  • PersonaBull

I can only imagine this game looks spectacular with 3D effects and weather effects in motion (cherry blossom petals, snow, etc).  The town actually seems to be rather intricate. With the buying of buildings and so forth I wonder if it will change the town visually (instead of just changing things indoors). Also, Vishnal is probably my favorite so far.

  • malek86

I still can’t get around the perspective in this game. The first screenshot is particularly weird. It must be 2D, but it still looks weird.

    • PersonaBull

Do you mean the angle of the top-down perspective? That seems to be the same as the previous games (on the DS at least). To me, what’s weird is how much the sprites seem to stand out from the background. The vegetables are the same way, as if it’s a badly photoshopped turnip cut/pasted onto a completely different background. I’m really hoping the 3D effects tie it all in to give a well-meshed visual experience.

      • malek86

It’s not really the perspective, more like the lack thereof. It’s like those old SNES RPGs, where the floor is viewed top-down but yet you could still see the front of houses and other things.

Now it wasn’t particularly weird in the old games, because the lack of details served to hide it and give the idea of a purely angled perspective. But as the graphics get more detailed, the more noticeable the effect becomes.

So we have the road which looks definitely top-down (due to the cobblestone not being in perspective), while everything else looks angled. It’s pretty jarring if you ask me.

        • It’d be kind of cool…no, really cool…if they made it like 3D Classics Excitebike. Like, you turn the 3D effect on and it actually changes the perspective of the game the higher you push the slider. Doubt we’ll see that, but something to consider for future RF games.

    • Shinji Kazuya

For me it seems like Pokémon. A mix of 2D and 3D.

  • The animu screenshots look nice, however, I bet it wont be in 3D like most openings and animu shots on the 3DS thus far (if it is coming from the OP). Ultimately, it doesnt look like its taking advantage of the power of the 3DS or differentiating itself from the DS incarnations of the franchise. I guess I will pass on this one.

    • Suicunesol

…I can’t recall any existing traditional 2D anime cutscenes that are in 3D on the 3DS. Examples? Anime in 3D… is difficult to do properly, so it’s really no surprise…

  • Shinji Kazuya

I never played any Rune Factory. I have been wanting too but I didn’t know from where to start.
Now that Rising Star Games is bringing Rune Factory 3, I’m planning to start from there since a lot of people say that 3 is like 1 and 2 together with everything polished up.
Rune Factory 4 seems to be another real nice game to have for 3DS. The graphics look real pretty.

I also will get Rune Factory Frontier for Wii since it’s very cheap right now and I will be waiting for Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny as well. ⁀ω⁀

    • I’d recommend starting either with Rune Factory Frontier or RF3 at this point, yea. 3 is a bit of a step-up in the sense that there’s more interaction with townsfolk, but being on a console made a lot of things like the combat and character customization stand out more in Frontier. :)

      • Shinji Kazuya

Ahah! There ya are! I got the idea about starting with 3 from ya. Read one of your posts 2 weeks ago, or something, where ya was saying that Rune Factory 3 is like the good traits from 1 and 2 together but all polished up.
Thanks for helping me decide. :>

        • Heads up, if you like Frontier’s cast some of the characters (even the main character) is in the first Rune Factory.  While not as deep or polished (experienced minor bugs) it is still worth checking out if you find it cheap and get some extra playtime with those characters.

Storywise there’s not too many connections that require playing in order either so you are set.

        • Frontier is, at its time of release, the best refinement of the Harvest Moon formula and its own Rune Factory formula. It’s definitely a good game to start with. That said, I recommend being a bit patient with loading times, and being really patient with the “Runey System”. If you gave get over these two, you’re good to go.

          • 3 is definitely the best of the DS titles so far, the only thing that made me stop playing after a while was the fact that you can only play as a boy while in two you start as a boy, then depending on what gender your child has you continue as a boy or girl. While I was hoping that 3 would finally give you choice of gender from the start it skipped on that completely. So 4 definitely is the Rune Factory for me! (As I have no Wii) ;>

  • I hope that there will be more bachlors than Tides of Destiny.

    • Second.

    • puchinri

Same here. (It’d be pretty bad to have three or even less than that again though.)

      • Again? three…? o.o RF oceans has like o-o… 6~7?

And RF3, while they were awesome, it just had too many T_T was too hard to choose first.

Anyways i dont think they will let us down in the bachelors part

        • puchinri

Really? Because the official site only had three bachelors (and nine bachelorettes).

…Wait, RF3 had bachelors? Or do you mean bachelorettes…?

          • ohhh bachelors! agh sorry i confused them xD , i was talking about women!, and yeah, there are a lot of girls to choose from, but now that i think there werent many boys on oceans, but i imagine there werent many in Oceans because they were just starting to get into the female protagonist stuff (though you only use her until later on).

Umm, i imagine they will put the same amount (or close) on this one xD since now they are more into the male or female protagonist >8D

          • puchinri

Lol, okay. After a little while, I kind of figured you meant the bachelorettes (because I know they didn’t give the option to be gay in RF3, which would have been cool). Haha, I still don’t actually think they have any excuse, but I’m letting them off the hook this time. (Yeah, sadly, you can’t freely choose to be Sonia until ch.5.)

Yeah, so far we only have one bachelor and two bachelorettes at all, but we’ll see how it goes~! x’)

  • haqua

Why don’t they just give Vishnal bishie sparkles already and get it over with?
Anyway… I’m just… argh. Time, why are you so slow?!

  • Suicunesol

I…I cannot tell whether this game is in 2D or 3D. Is it just me? Someone said it was a mix… and they’re probably right. But how would this game look in s3D? I cannot imagine how the first screen (the town) would look, because it’s clearly 2D through and through.

Maybe it’s a different kind of s3D that gives it a “layered” depth rather than perspective depth. That’ll certainly be very different.

    • Shinji Kazuya

For me it seems like Pokémon Black & White. A mix of 2D and 3D. I can’t comment about the 3DS 3D. I’m not really a fan of this 3D era thing we are on. I simply enjoy the 3DS graphics for what they are.

  • puchinri

I’ve seen all I need. Woolies, cute female protag and a hot bachelor. “Day 1 baby”.

  • I love this, the only problem i have is with the MC looking so girly, the MC of RF1 has been the best one so far, and even the 2nd looked kinda cool.

RF3,4 and oceans, kinda too “cute” for my tastes T_T

    • AdrianHeng

One question – which one of the girls above was the main character? No, seriously – I can’t tell. ._.

    • Well, Micah does transform into a golden Wooly after all…

My favorite MC is also Raguna. Johnny Young Bosch’s brilliant voice acting helped too, of course.

  • Seink Moonlight

    No more woolies!

  • Ugh Just take my money TOT * Throws wallet
