Castlevania: Harmony of Despair Plays On PlayStation 3 With Bonus Content

By Ishaan . July 7, 2011 . 1:02pm

In May, two separate sources confirmed to us that the previously Xbox Live-exclusive multiplayer Castlevania: Harmony of Despair would be making its way to the PlayStation Network. Konami just made that news official, with a mention of bonus content.

New to the PlayStation Network version is a local 4-player co-op mode mode in addition to the existing 6-player online. Konami also added the “Beauty, Desire, Situation Dire” (Pyramid of Ruin) DLC map pack along with downloadable characters, Julius Belmont and Yoko Belnades to the PlayStation 3 version.

Castlevania: Harmony of Despair doesn’t have a release date yet, but it shouldn’t be too far off. Konami have it slated for a summer release.

I’m kind of hoping they add that local co-op part to the 360 version as well. The feature is tempting, but given everything else that’s coming out soon, I just don’t think I’d have the money to cave in and get the PS3 version as well.

This. Being an owner of the 360 version, it feels slightly like we were guinea pigs whilst they experimented with an (almost entirely) episodic game that ends up costing quite a bit.

I’m cool with PS3 users getting DLC for free to make up for the wait, but if they get such a glaringly amazing feature and we don’t, well, it’s hardly an act of good faith or of Konami thanking us for supporting the game during its original release.

It appears that Konami has pulled a “Tales of”.

  • Kris

Sold, if only for local co-op!

  • kupomogli

Glad some of the DLC comes with it.

  • HistorysGreatestMonster

Wait…there was no offline co-op in the 360 version?

    • Advent_Andaryu

      Nope, it was online only.

    • Ravage27

baffling decision, this sort of game is best played with a pal right next to you

  • Hexen

I hope that they include a 4 player split screen as well. Sharing one screen for this game is not fun for this game.

I’ve always wanted to play this and was disappointed when it was announced as a LIVE exclusive. Can’t wait to get my digital hands on it.

    • Testsubject909

You do that. I can’t wait to get my actual flesh and blood covered with skin and supported by a bone structure hands on it.

  • PrinceHeir

yay thanks for the game konami :D

now if you can just put Otomedius Excellence it would be much appreciated :P

  • ExceptionL

I knew it was worth it to hold off on the Xbox version! I can’t wait.

  • eilegz

i wished for all dlc included, but at least it comes with extra :D

  • EvilAkito

As long as I can get that awesome Getsu Fuuma Den map, then I’m in. Local co-op is also a plus, because I hate the internet.

  • YsyDoesIt

…I love it.  I will call Local Co-op Sofa Co-op from here on out.

Also, I knew there was a reason why I waited (and it’s not like it has anything to do with my being distracted by other awesome… ¬ ¬”)
