White Knight Chronicles II Rides To Stores In September With Extra Quests On Disc

By Spencer . July 15, 2011 . 3:02pm

wkcfD3Publisher is getting ready to bring White Knight Chronicles II to North America. The Western version of has as a couple of changes, including a new server for European and North American players. Just like the Japanese version, White Knight Chronicles II includes a revised version of the first game, which implements the combat tweaks from the sequel.

You don’t need to grind through White Knight Chronicles to get to White Knight Chronicles II either. The Japanese release required players to complete White Knight Chronicles: International Edition before they could start the sequel. Skip White Knight Chronicles and you’ll see a montage that summarizes the events in the game.

Another bonus is White Knight Chronicles II includes extra quests released as downloadable content in Japan as on disc content in North America. D3Publisher didn’t say which quests will be available on disc only citing content from January 2011. That’s when Sony released a mission where you defeat a demon at the end of the abyss (pictured below). Level-5 also created a new storyline that stars the avatar character who usually follows Leonard around in the main story, which was released in Japan back in March.

White Knight Chronicles II is slated for release this September.

Can’t wait for this! I really wish this was releasing sooner though.

  • ManaKnight

I’m really excited.  Despite the bad reviews, I found WKC awesome (even the single player, sort of felt like a traditional RPG story).

  • Wait, I thought they said that Europe and NA would be on the same servers? Why did they change it?

    • Shinji Kazuya

I know man. They said we could play together before. I’m confused as well.

  • im confused, en the main storyline you use leonard or a character you create?

    • Just like the first game, Leonard is and always has been the main character. The avatar character kind of takes a back seat, but you have your own Incorruptus in this game.

      • AzureNova

So then whats this avatar story or is that only on the Japanese version?

        • It was released as DLC in Japan, it’s unclear if that’s the DLC content on-disc or not. According to SCEJ, it was released in March. We’ll check in with D3 to find out for sure.

          • AzureNova

            Kool, thanks 4 the info.

  • Hm this ava main story is what exactly? I’m still at WKC part 1 great so far I’m brutally addicted to it even though it’s sometimes repetitive as hell(god I hate this back and forth..). It’s kinda easy but not enough that you can’t feel any fun from it anymore, I dig the story, yes it’s really cliche, but it’s fun and damn the Knights look so awesome(hope the ava gets one down the story, that’s why I would like to know what this story thing about him is~), ’cause you know the Ava is like the most unimportant sidekick in gming history so far..he’s like someone you could as well totally kick out and it wouldn’t change anything…I always use him tho~

  • Shinji Kazuya

Wait a second! I got cofused. I tought it was just one server where Europeans and North Americans could play together? Now the servers are seperated?

Or there’s two servers? One for European players and another for North American players but we can freely choose which server ta join at anytime?
Like: Today I’ll enter the European server and tomorrow I’ll enter the North American server.

    • I meant different from the Japanese server. Maybe that wasn’t worded well, so I’m going to edit it. To clarify – PAL and NA players will have one server. Japanese players will be on another.

      • Shinji Kazuya

Ah! Phew! Thanks for clearing that up Spencer! :3

  • lurkingsalt

I was only 6-8 hours into the first one before I got sidetracked and never played it again. I guess I’ll start over when I pick this one up.

    • Shinji Kazuya

Yeah, I know how that is. I get sidetracked all the time ’cause of new games coming out.

  • epy

So no japanese track in this one either, huh? Not that I had high expectations, but still dissapointing.

  • September? With Persona 2 Innocent Sin (PSP) and Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten (PS3), I do not know how I will be able to fit in WKCII. I really liked the trailer for the game and the first one but never managed to catch a demo or play it.  Is the game a fully single player experience?

    • There’s a full single player story and world, with quests and bounties, shops and everything(Lots of cutscenes too, great presentation). And there is the multiplayer you can choose on quests a bit similar to Monster Hunter.

    • Ladius

It has a long single player mode (easily 60 hours to complete both WKC1 and 2), but far too much of WKC2 is a blatant rehash of WKC1’s locations and monsters to feel comfortable calling it a true sequel. Honestly, I would go with P2IS and D4 if I were you, at least if you aren’t interested in WKC2 because of its multiplayer mode (but it doesn’t seem to be the case).

  • AzureNova

IDk if anyone remember the show Megus XL, but whenever I get into my Incorruptus I suddenly get the urge to smash the DMV lol.

  • Mister_Nep

Imported both the first and second game. Bought the first one when it got a US release. Still plan on getting this one. This’ll probably be the game I play most from the fall release. Very excited!

  • HistorysGreatestMonster

September is officially too expensive. Disgaea 4, Ico/Shadow of the Colossus, God of War Origins, this, and Atelier Totori being rumored for it. I hope at least one of them gets delayed until October. I had planned on buying two copies of this. One as a birthday gift for a girl who likes RPG’s who just got a PS3. Not sure I’ll be able to do that now.

    • Ravage27

hm…i think i have the same problem here :S

Already have Totori,D4 and Ico preordered so either WKC2 or GOW Origins will have to wait

  • Ladius

As sad as it is, WKC2 is probably one of the worst games I played this year. Aside from one city and four dungeons the whole game is a massive recycle of WKC1’s areas and monsters, with extremely little additions. The battles have been improved (faster turns, more difficult bosses, albeit for the wrong reasons, like guests npc you can’t customize that make for an insta-game over when they’re one-shot by a boss), but the game is so lazy as a sequel (not to mention the plot, characters and setting, some of the worst and most unpolished in recent jrpg memory) that I consider it more an expansion of WKC1 than a new game. Fans of  WKC1’s  online should like it, though: the (rather mindless and extremely repetitive, sadly) grinding is back, and you even have an Incorruptus for your avatar.

    • FireCouch

So in short, WKCII is as medicore as WKCI?  If that’s the case then there is no way I’m buying it.

    •  so it’s still pretty much better than FFXIII, right? o 3o

      • Astralwyrm

FFXIII was better than WKC imo >.> atleast XIII’s story didnt end before the story even got going.

        • I wished FFXIII’s story would’ve ended before it got going, to be perfectly honest

    • badmoogle

Even in the first game there were 2 areas that kinda looked suspiciously very similar with each other. The environments in general was one of the few high qualities of the first game but they certainly needed more variety.
I’m very dissapointed to hear that the sequel reuses the same maps again…:( I think Level 5 can do much better than that.

  • kroufonz

took them long enough after european release.

september is already too crowded,  i am just gonna wait for price bomba( or import the budget japanese best version for 35$:P), Totori and Disgaea 4 already become my priority for that month. i can’t buy this game full price in september, wkc2 didn’t even have japanese voice :p, also september have some nice game released in japan too (xillia,th2dx,dunamis etc)

  • Nice. I thought this was coming in August, but oh well. I now have two games to buy in September.

    • It was pushed back a month because they couldn’t complete all the online testing when the PSN was down.

  • Can anyone confirm if the original voice cast returned for this sequel?

Anyway, I’m looking forward to this sequel, had a lot of fun with the first one (regardless of how repetitive it was). I’m just glad the game got pushed till sometime in September because now it gives me a chance to pick up WKC1 again and try to platinum it :D.

    • blober

yes i know for a fact that Alli hillis is still going to do lightnings voice.

  • badmoogle

I bought the first game on day 1 at full price and kinda regreted it to be honest…the original wasn’t a bad game but it certainly wasn’t worth its full price.I’ve heard even worse things about the sequel so i’ll be waiting a long time for its price to drop before i decide to buy it.
WKC in general was a wasted opurtinity IMO because i think Level 5 had some very cool ideas but unfortunately they were implemented terribly…

  • YEAH we’ll get the Polkan Costume <3

  • Hexen

The only thing i hated here is using of new online pass method. Those pass only works on an account that has same region of your disc in which it didn’t exist on the first game.

And seeing there’s no mentioned Asian release (Japan excluded), I hope D3Publisher release this on Asian markets as well (although knowing that D3Publusher for its R3 or Asian release which it didn’t happen on the 1st WKC and they’ll treat the Asian customers as Japanese because only Jap. version of the game comes here which it uses different PSN server than the rest of Asia) (-_-)

  • PrinceHeir

will buy this for sure :P
