Aliens: Infestation Is WayForward’s Next Nintendo DS Game

More Nintendo DS games are still on the way. Many, many games later, WayForward are still making games for it, and their next DS title, like their Thor platformer, is being published by Sega.

WayForward are developing a side-scrolling DS version of Aliens: Infestation. Sega say the game will have a large selection of weapons and tools from the series, and an upgrade and collectibles system.

It’s being released sometime in September. Here’s a few screenshots that came along with the out-of-nowhere announcement:

Wow, that looks awesome. I feel like I’m in the 90′s again.

It appears that the beta video that appeared 2 years ago was true after all. I’m glad that this project was resurrected, I mean the video of Alien: colonial marines for DS looks similar to the gamescreens of this game.

I hope that includes the alien that throws corpses, that looked really cool.

Fantastic sprite work going on here!

I’m not sure what to do now. For one WayForward makes 2D games. That alone is enough on the plus side.  On the other hand their games usually have some serious design flaws I don’t like.
I’m not into lists, but I also can’t stand it when someone mentions “flaws” and just leaves it at that, so bear wirth me:
    > poor enemy spawn code, button mashing default gun, odd collision detection and no proper hard mode in Contra 4
    > lack of lives in a Boy & his Blob
    > pseudo grab infinites in Batman: Brave and the Bold

I hope this would be a much-needed inversion of Hollywood films, butchering video games via horrid adaptations.

Also, will this be a side story, alternate universe, or canon to the main timeline: Alien -> Aliens -> Alien^3?

I wasn’t 100% sure as to where it lies in terms of canon, but at E3, the Gearbox folks said that Colonial Marines was the true sequel to Aliens. I don’t know if that retcons 3 or not XD

Looks very promising, go SEGA and Wayforward.

well, for one it looks like a proper Aliens game throwback to the ’90s, plus the sprites look good. dunno if animation is fluid or no, but it must at least be fluid enough to have a chance with platformer fans (ie, same animation level as polished Castlevania games).
