See Tales of Xillia’s Characters Enter Battle With Special And Support Moves

By Ishaan . July 21, 2011 . 9:32am

Like other games before it, Tales of Xillia revises the series’ battle system. In battle, each character has his or her own special moves, as well as support moves that allow you to chain attacks with other characters. Here’s a bunch of character videos showing both, courtesy of Game Jouhou, who found them on Namco’s YouTube channel:

Jude (support):

Milla (support):

Alvin (support):

Leia (support):

Elise (support):

Rowen (support):

  • This game looks so freakin` awesome. I really hope it gets localized, It looks a lot better than Graces F, but they probably won’t localize it unless Graces F sells well.

  • Sakurazaki

I’d like it better if the sounds-on-hit would make a more ‘umph’ sound.

Oh well, guess I can make those with my mouth.

  • Barrylocke89

I haven’t been keeping up with Xillia news, but Rowen looks pretty cool, being able to control the movement of the spells. Anyone want to break down the mystical rope tying the characters together for me?

  • kevinposta

I hope that’s not all Elise can do on her own… Tales has had healers that could defend themselves for a good ammount of time now (Tear, Iria, ToDr Rutee, Estelle, Kohak and Hisui, Sophie and Cheria) so seeing her being so slow and fragile makes me feel a tad sad.
Again, hopefully she gets some artes in high levels or something so she is very playable on her own.

    • thats just basic attacks she is more of a magic user same for Rowen i think

      • kevinposta

I realize she is the main healer, but as I stated I would like to see more of her play style. The last time we had a healer that was boring to play as (without counting NDX Mint and Tempest, with Rubia and Arria) is Legendia.
It was a huge improvement to have a cast fully playable and exciting to use, so Ellise probably will get something at a later level that makes her competent meele wise.

        • Mystena

Elise does have two ‘modes’ to switch between which I presume would see the ‘Tipo Off’ mode will be far more melee oriented than what was shown in that short clip. She does have Tipo-senkou as her version of shishisenkou so there is some hope.

          • kevinposta

             Oh now that’s interesting!
Why didn’t they show those artes D:

  • Crimson_Cloud

The battle system looks like it was upgraded a mile away. This must be localized. And I know I said it already but Milla is Hnnnnnnnngggg!!!

    • Shinji Kazuya

MILLA! Natural airhead for the win! Moe!!!
      Yeah if this doesn’t get localised I’ll be SOOOOO sad! ;_;

    • AzureNova

Yeah, I’ve kept up with Xillia from the very beginning. If this doesn’t get localized I will surely die lol. And yes, Milla is definitely Hnnnnnnnnnnngggggggg!!! >_<

    • SMEXY!

    • DanteJones

      I agree! HNNNNNNNGGGGG all around!

  • AzureNova

    This is gonna be fun!

  • joesz

I read this on famitsu yesterday,But didn’t get any videos. Thanks  for this Spensa Lansa.

  • raikage

I think this will become my second favorite Tales.

    • RagnaXBL

      1st being?

  • Tales of awesomeness

  • looks amazing

    can’t wait to see more

  • Jude’s little teleportation thing looks amazing and just a tiny bit broken. It sounds awesomely useful.

Leia looks like she’ll be a pretty beast melee character, if you pump her stats. I like her combos. (Assuming that’s how stats work in the game, at least. :X)

Tippo… sounds/looks so cute. As usual.

    Rowen’s magic… what… it’s crazy! I don’t normally play as mage-types, but I might consider him.

  • Finally, a Team Symphonia game that feels and looks dynamic unlike the other games.

  • am I missing something, this doesn’t look that much different from any of the other tales of games. the character models look bigger though.

    • KotaroInugami

Then yeah, you’re missing something. :D

  • Shinji Kazuya

Loving Elise already! And Rowen’s playstyle is awsome!

    • Ian

you can move manipulate his magic with X and analog button XD…

  • MrSirFeatherFang

By the looks of it, it seemed like Alvin will learn Inferno Divider late in the game… I hope his ultimate weapon will be the Neo Armstrong Cyclone Jet Armstrong Cannon (if you know what I mean)

  • Nooo, Siliconera, why must you tempt me?!  I may have to save up and import this game, it looks better with every new trailer/detail!!

  • I really, really hope this comes to america…

  • Cant wait for this game to finally release…Even thouygh I’m importing it I really hope Bamco decides to localize this title in NA. Hopefully Graces F and Abyss 3d will sell enough copies in the states for them to justify porting this game over.

  • tass123

I too want it localized, but not by a company famous for bad English voice acting -_- They’re even worse than Atlus!Anyway, videos looks amazing, can’t wait for my copy to arrive.

    • Worse than Atlus? What do you mean?

    • Elemiel

Since when does Atlus do bad voice acting? O_o

    • Hope that was sarcasm or something…Atlus is one of the few publishers whose english VAs I actually respect. They did an excellent job with Persona 3 and 4, even to the point where if I was given the option to play the games again with Japanese VAs I’d still choose the English voices (and I’m the kind of person who always turns on Japanese voices when given the option in games).

      • Shinji Kazuya

Indeed. Persona 3 and 4 English voices were excellent!

      • DanteJones

^ This. Out of both Persona 3 and 4 the only character’s voice I didn’t care a whole lot for was Chie. It wasn’t horrible or anything, but compared to the other actors I didn’t think it was as good.

    • Shinji Kazuya

Tales games with bad English voice acting? You need ta tell me which one ’cause I dunno any.

  • SerendipityX

This game is just beautiful…even the monsters look just as badass as the characters. *o* Do want…come to America…please?

    • Shinji Kazuya

      I know! We need to get it! ;_;

  • Ian

    Awesome…. XD

  • Masengan

This game looks fantastic, I love the magic (I mean spells etc) from the Tales universe.

  • Really liking the idea of switching sidelined characters into battles. It needs to be in more RPGs period. My favorite example of this done well is Golden Sun: The Lost Age. Final Fantasy XII almost had it, though it involved going into the menu and was rather unwieldy.

  • Kitestwinblades

Never gonna shake off the fact that the main characters look like Ryner Lute and Ferris Eris from The Legend of Legendary Heroes. Which isnt a bad thing, looks awesome.

  • Goodie. First time I see gameplay from Xillia and I want it!!

Look refreshed and interesting. Great update from Vesperia´s battles.

They keep advancing the battle system but still keeping it simple. Lovely.

    • Mystena

It seems like they’re tossing in a lot of ‘multi-mode’ combat styles as well.

Elise has ‘Tipo On’ and ‘Tipo Off’ modes to switch between magic based or physical attacking. Alvin looks as if he has a way to focus on his sword by putting away his pistol (into his sword). Leia’s staff is a bit interesting. The range noticeably increases and the attack speed appears to be faster when she makes it glow but whether or not it does anything else is anyone’s guess at this point and indeed what are the conditions to make it glow.

  • Epic. Simply epic. This is quite possibly the best incarnation of the LMBS yet.
