Neo-Geo.com has posted a digitized development manual from SNK’s old system and Gamasutra have posted an article that highlights some of the more interesting portions of it. Here’s a section on development guidelines:

Another section outlines the flow of a game after you boot it up. Yet another after that provides instructions for how to handle situations related to Continue screens:

The full development manual is over 200 pages in length, covering everything from guidelines to technical specifications. You can find it via the articles linked to above.

    I’m glad they decided to play outside the rules in the first Samurai Shodown, finishing your opponent with that short standstill and spurt of blood or splitting the opponent in half is always quite awesome to look at.

    The less awesome thing is that they decided not to release Samurai Shodown V Special outside Japan. Well, at least the finishers can be seen on Youtube.

      SSZ Special is on GGPO and Supercade etc. I believe.  I almost wish Examu hadn’t more or less surpassed SNK at this point, and the thought of them being called upon for a true Samurai Spirits sequel wasn’t outside the realm of possibility. <.<;

      The future is no longer now  ;_;

  • SNK as a company was very innovative in the 90’s. We tried to keep it alive in the 2000’s but only the customer base itself brought it to a end with elitism and witch hunts. It became more about drama then Neo Geo and then it was over. I doubt SNK Playmore survives past this year.

    • Were you part of SNK back in the day?

      Thats just nonsense. SNK came down due to the decline of arcades and the rise of rom hackers on one side and lack of quality, innovative titles past their neogeo hardware. If snk would have had a good follow up hardware with above average title as they had back in the 90’s they would have a much better stance in the industry today. If they really close doors soon its due to a long chain of BAD decisions on THEIR part. If you like them support them and go buy KOF XIII when its being released later this year.

  • thats crazy man… SNK were never that great but i still like em
