By Ishaan . July 23, 2011 . 9:27am

Yen Press held their Comic-Con panel yesterday, where they announced that they’ve added three new manga licenses: Durarara!! (Janauary 2012), Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? (spring 2012) and Olimpos (a 2-volume series to be released in a single omnibus edition).

Yen have also launched an iPhone app that allows access to series like Highschool of the Dead and Nightschool. Until August 21st, the first volumes of these series are discounted to $2.99. There’s also a sneak peek on the app of Gossip Girl, Psycho Killer re-imagining in which the cast are serial killers.

When I read the title I got excited because I thought this was referring to the light novels for Durarara and Zombie Desu ka? before I read “manga”. Too bad.

       Same here, man, same here.

    • aoihana

Yeah, I wish more light novels were translated…

The manga is still nice though ^^

    • Crimson_Cloud

I heard that Kore Wa Zombie Desu ka? light novels were awesome, so yeah, too bad. At least we have anime second season to look forward to.

  • Locklear93

Oh, sweet.  I’d rather have the light novels, like a number of other commenters, but frankly I’ll take any more Kore wa Zombie desu ka? right now.

  • AnimeRemix

It’s good the Durarara!! manga was licensed, but the Light Novels is much better. The manga art isn’t really all that great either, but it’s tolerable. Still, when Yen Press release the manga next year, I will buy it. =)

I hope the light novel market picks up…I think with all this digital the companies should give them a chance.

    • Soma

I totally agree with this 100%.

More of the Light Novels need to start showing up here. Especially Baccano!

  • VWinds

We can hope that if the mangas do well they’ll do the light novels too. I’ve really wanted to read the DRRR!!! and Zombie novels.

       IEYASUUUUUU!!!

      Oh wait… wrong series…

  • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

I think I was most excited about their dating and revealing of the full color hardcover omnibus of Highschool of the Dead. I will probably get it and the anime soon. Might as well give the series a try.

  • AzureNova

    Awesome!

Yes!!! So excited about this! I’ll gladly give Yen Press my money for Durarara!!!

  • SeventhEvening

    Gossip Girl, Psycho Killer?

That is one of the most bizarre things I have ever heard. I can’t even imagine who came up with that idea. And more shocking….someone green-lit it and thought it would somehow make money.

  • Soma

That’s really awesome that DRRR!! is getting a release from Yen!

That being said, I think it would be way more awesome if Viz picked it up, especially if it was part of their Signature series.
Love that Yen is giving all of these awesome series’ a chance, I’m just not a huge fan of their translations.

Enjoying the Durarara anime, so I’ll definitely grab the light novel.  Here’s hoping it does well enough for them to license the light novels.

Yen Press has really been growing on me (since they brought us the GA manga). I do want to read Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka too. Too bad it’s not out now, because Borders would be a great place to get it.

    • XerosBeat

That reminds me, Borders stores have been closing down left and right…

      • Enma_Kozato

No surprise since it’s going out of business.

      • puchinri

Yeah, I remember just earlier this year, people were telling me about the Borders near them closing up, but I don’t think any of our’s were. But it seems like the ones in this area have started to as well.

Sadly, my friend said Yotsuba and most of the good manga were gone by the time he got there.

      • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

My state must be Border’s deprived, for all the popularity its bankruptcy and closing all stores by September is getting, my state only had three of the stores even in its prime.

How did people buy manga in a store, AMZN has always been so much lower cost.
