Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker And Snake Eater HD Versions To Run At 60 FPS

“Wow, 60 fps on HD is great!” Metal Gear Solid creator, Hideo Kojima, tweeted this morning, alongside a picture of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD. The PSP version of Peace Walker only runs at 30 frames-per-second, but it appears the HD version included in the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will be running at 60.

Kojima excitedly followed up with a few more tweets. His next one read: “Ooh, HD, 60 fps, and vibrancy! Moves smoothly! Recoil of the gun is fun! It seems she wants to have a word as well. http://t.co/f1rw5Cn

Kojima then revealed a little tidbit regarding the development history of Metal Gear Solid 2. “My favourite VFX supervisor and director: Douglas Trumbull advocated the system ‘show scan’ with which you can materialize 60 fps with 70mm [film] long time ago,” Kojima tweeted.

“I think he was saying “Our brains recognize it as real when it goes above 45 fps” or something lijt that. So, I pushed 60 fps for MGS2 to make it alive.”

Kojima then brought up Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. “Tried 60 fps on PS2 ver. of MGS3 like MGS2, but since it was really hard to draw the jungle and to handle collision, I had to make it to 30 fps reluctantly,” he revealed. “However, you can play MGS3 with realistic sensation which is ‘show scan-ish’ via HD ver. at last.”

“I always go for realistic sensation,” Kojima stated. “No matter how you devote the number of polygon, clear up textures and improve graphic, it is just a beautiful film set.”

Definitely checking out this, especially if they are bumping up the FPS in MGS3, still in my opinion one of the best games ever made owo; Plus dual stick on Peace Walker, it seems like it’ll be a really nice collection disc >w<' Save files were suppose to be transferable on Peace Walker too weren't they?

    • SolidusSnake

heh they better be, since I already put about 100 hours in the damn game it would be disappointing to start over by now.

Having said that, I wonder if they’re going to be tweaking the difficulty for Peace Walker. I’ll bet it becomes really easy now that you can use an analog stick for aiming instead of the geometry buttons. Fighting those giant gas guzzling pieces of armor is gonna be like shotting fish in a barrel now.

        Haha >wwo>~!

But as far as aimming, I don’t think it’ll become any easier or harder with buttons used for aiming; although I think I’m one of the only people who really didn’t mind this, I just got in the mindset pretty quick that it was like using a second d-pad opo; That being said I figure it will become easier for people who had a tough time with that control scheme though >o>’

haha, I actually got used to the controller scheme myself, but I think the analog stick will make for smoother fights. I had a theory that the control scheme was one of the reasons for big tanks and ginormous mecha bosses instead of the usual MGS assortment of motley freaks. I would have had a hard time hitting a really fast moving boss like Vamp or the Fear with Peace Walker controls personally. Of course that’s just speculation on my part, lolz

Transfarring is a pretty cool idea indeed, and it’s nice that the folks who don’t have PSPs will finally get a shot at this game!

        • Exkaiser

I actually found the Portable Ops control scheme in Peace Walker to be really comfortable.

I don’t think aiming at them was the hard part of those battles…

Especially not when you got Stingers.

I always thought there was something with MGS2, it’s so silky smooth. Definitely one of the best looking PS2 games imo, glad to see the other titles will get the same treatment

Mr. Kojima, hope you add the japanese voices this time around like you wanted with MGS4. You should have enough space this time.

    • HistorysGreatestMonster

No. Being it’s a multiplatform collection, they have to keep things even across both systems. Without adding anything new, the 360 version is already at two discs. If it were a PS3 exclusive, then most likely, they could have, but with both systems, needing to be fair, that will not happen.

Very awesome! One thing I’ve discovered since doing more PC gaming is that there is a HUGE world of difference between 30 and 60 fps. Knowing that the MGS collection will be running in 60 makes it all the sweeter of a deal. :D

Even at 30fps MGS3 Snake Eater was Art.

  • SirRichard

Now you can eat an entire ecosystem at 60 FPS in blazing high definition!

To be honest, if that was the tagline for MGS3 HD on its own, I’d be all over that.

wait they still aren’t using the Substance and Subsistence versions???

come on Konami, as much as i like these, i would have appreciated if they added everything from the special editions(Document of MGS2, the Theater versions of MGS3, and also the 3 hour cutscene only disc from MGS3 Subsitence, even the 2 MSX games from Subsistence LE has been included)

first removal of Silent Hill 2 VA and now this :(

well it’s a good thing i still have my subsistence and substance versions. though would have love those HD graphics and widescreen resolution.

still will buy it, but not Day 1 unfortunately :(

i hope they include the special addition of ZOE1 and 2 in the HD remaster game(i read that in japan there’s a special mode for the LE of the game)

Might have come down to space limitations. Everything has to fit on one 360 DVD, “new format”(lol) or not DVD just does not have a lot of space for HD content. Or it could have come down to the source code, PS2 games are not easy to port because of how the PS2 chip sets are tied to most of the graphical effects,(hence why MGS2 ran poorly on Xbox despite the system being more powerful). For example I have read the volumetric fog in Shadow of the Colossus is a bear to get to work right through emulation.

      • HistorysGreatestMonster

Actually, the 360 versions are ALREADY two discs. So, yeah, space limitations are definitely an issue.

      • PrinceHeir

interesting with the PS2 chip thingy.

hopefully Konami will make this a true collection(still bummed with 4 not included)
