Super Mario Advance 4, Kirby & The Amazing Mirror Are Coming To 3DS Too

By Ishaan . August 1, 2011 . 4:02pm

When Nintendo dropped the price of the Nintendo 3DS last week, they announced that current 3DS users would be able to download 10 NES games and 10 Game Boy Advance games for the device before the end of the year, as part of an “Ambassador Program”.

Five of the GBA titles were Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Mario vs. Donkey Kong.

Two more have been revealed now, via Nintendo of America’s customer service department. The news comes via Nintendo World Report, who report that Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 and Kirby & the Amazing Mirror will be joining the five previously announced GBA games.

That leaves three more Game Boy Advance titles and five more NES titles for Nintendo to announce. The NES games will be available starting September 1st, while the GBA games will be made available “by the end of 2011”.

  • Pretty cool, though I’m surprised that they’re going with Super Mario Advance 4. After all, they could have just as easily gone with SMB3 with the NES side of things.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Weird how it’s “Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3” and “Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3”. Anyway that list is getting better. Add any of the Advance Wars, Golden Sun, or Mario & Luigi titles to that list and I’ll be further tempted. (Unfortunately, it seems like all of the games are ones published by Ninty.)

    • Covnam

The likely will all be from Nintendo. If they give away a game from another company, they’d probably have to pay for that.

  • meat0bun

Metroid: Zero Mission! Do it Nintendo!

  • Vino (Tim N)

Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap! It was one of my of favorite GBA titles. And like another said, Metroid: Zero Mission would be another great title. These are some still amazing games, and I do think it makes up for the early purchase now, even though it doesn’t bug me that much anyways before.

    • If I could like this comment a hundred times, I would do so.

      Give me Minish Cap, Nintendo.

    • Mario & Luigi would be awesome as well :D

  • dragoon_slayer12

The only gba game I’m not feeling is Wario ware, and out of the nes, I don’t care for ice climbers and balloon fight. These 20 games are gonna kill my 3ds. Can’t wait till I can redeem them. Hopefully they put zero mission and both golden Sun’s, then nintendo is 100% forgiven for the 6 month price drop. I can do without zero mission if they put super Mario world 1 (unless of course, myamoto makes the remake)

    • meat0bun

Since all the games they’ve announced so far are from Nintendo-owned or branch studios, I wouldn’t expect any Golden Suns or any other non-first party games.

    ilovekirbyandtheamazingmirror… T~T

  • SMA4?  Really?

I don’t suppose that means the eReader content will get revived, will it?  No?  I didn’t think so.  That was some interesting stuff that was put together back in the day.  And the hacking.  The hacking was good.

    • eReader is now AR Reader.

      • I think you’re missing the basic point.  Basically, they would have to have AR Reader compatible with SMA4.

I would be incredibly surprised to see that happen.

  • It’s a giving that Zelda is gonna be one of the GBA games. The main question is which one: Link to the Past or Minish Cap.

    • puchinri

      We can’t have both? ;u;

      • Another will probable be pokemon emerald. I doubt they’ll put both out at the same Time. So much Zelda in one year!

        • puchinri

Ahh, I forgot about that kind of possibility! That would be nice too. Haha, and good point. That would be a lot of Zelda in one year! I wouldn’t be complaining or anything, but it would be good to see something else first instead of both at once.

        • They’re(maybe) remaking R&S and possibly Emerald, I don’t think it’ll be on the list

  • Zonic505

The only way this could be more amazing (I was so hoping for SMB3) is if they included all the e-reader stuff like the extra levels and items from other games, like the Feather from Super Mario World.

  • If Super Mario Advance 2 (Super Mario World) is one of the remaining three, then I’ll be 100% okay with the fact that I bought the 3DS pre-price drop. Either way the line-up looks pretty good. On the NES side I’d like to see Punch-Out.

    • skyblaze

What would be severely awesome is if they added all the extra e-reader content to Super Mario Advance 4

      • FireCouch

DLC for the GBA, good stuff.

  • puchinri

I really, really want to get a 3DS now. If I wasn’t broke, I’d probably be downloading those games now.

  • malek86

Of course I’m gonna get these when they come out, but I can’t help but feel that there’s some interest conflict here. Me, and many other early adopters I guess, bought a 3DS mainly on the premise of glassless 3D. It was, after all, the main point of their early ad campaign. There were other reasons, but it was the main allure, I can’t deny it.

And now, as compensation, they hand out a bunch of old 3D-less games.

Reading the titles, those games feel more like thanks for being a Nintendo fan, not for being an early 3DS adopter – although the two things probably overlap quite a lot. But I’m not a Nintendo fan, so this move strikes me as really weird, and very outside of my original reason for buying a 3DS.

Wouldn’t it have been more fitting instead if we had got, I don’t know, a bunch of free 3D Classics? Or maybe a couple 3DS games?

Between this, some of Miyamoto’s comments (“it’s ok to not use 3D for gameplay”), and some of Iwata’s words during the investors conference (“more focus on other features”), it feels to me like Nintendo has started taking a little distance from the 3D. Like they are now thinking it won’t work as a selling point.

    • I would have rather gotten 3DS games, I had no interest in playing retro games like these (NES is just too far before my time in gaming) and non of Nintendo’s classic games have been just appealing enough to me to want to get. I will probably be one of those people who wont even download all of these games.

    • Travis Bagley

I did not get my 3DS for the 3D that is just an added bonus. I got it because it was the next Nintendo handheld and I got it for the games.

      • This! The system is great on its own, with or without 3D. Condemning what I think most would consider fun or quality games simply because they don’t feature an unnecessary gimmick seems. . . well, a bit unnecessary to me.

Hell, the handheld virtual console was one deciding factor in me going for a 3DS. I for one am happy to now be getting some very solid GBA titles.

    • alundra311

I, too, bought the 3DS for the games and 3D.

They did say that they would be released with unspecified features. Here’s hoping that one of those features is 3D. Just wondering though, how difficult is it to add 3D to these games?

  • Now I’m just waitin’ for Minish Cap, Zero Mission & A Link to The Past or Mario & Luigi ! And I think I’m not the only one here Nintendo sooo do it !! ;)

  • So wait. We get to download ALL 20 of the games if we have the 3DS before the price drops?

  • kylehyde

No matter if I already have it on GBA cartridge, but, I want that Golden Sun as one of the free titles, however I see this as something very unlikely, but the hope is still around.

    • I want golden sun as well. Since I ended up giving a friend my DS Lite I have no way to play my Golden Sun games :(

  • Travis Bagley

I am hoping for a Pokemon GBA game but I doubt it will be one.

  • Golden Sun/Pokemon/Zelda please! If you’re going to liter me with platformers and everything Mario then I’ll personally be disappointed still.
Sigh regardless these are all games that most Nintendo fans already owned in the first place. It would have been nice if people who register there 3DS gets some exclusive club Nintendo swag no one else can get or something. Sigh IDK either way it’s my own fault for letting my fanboyism convince me to be a day 1 buyer…

MOTHER 3 AND -maybe, why not?- RHYTHM TENGOKU

  • Zero Mission, Emerald, and a one of the Zelda games!

  • Yes to the added content SMB3!

  • SMB3 ?? Nice :D , now i have to wait til they confirm Advance Wars 2 :´)

  • SolNeko

would like to see games that werent previously available instead of these T_T

  • I needed this Kirby game.  Nice to see it will be available sooner than I thought.

    I can buy this later on I hope, because I don’t think I can buy a 3DS right now…

  • Juuu

Mario and Luigi, Fire Emblem, and Advance Wars, please! :] All [apparently] awesome series I sorta missed out on during the GBA lifespan.

also…..Doing a digital import of the original Rhythm Tengoku wouldn’t be too hard…right? Maybe even boost your Rhythm Heaven Wii sales… ;D C’mon, Ninty, throw me a bone.

  • Three remaining you say? I cast my votes for:
Zero Mission, Four Swords/Link to the Past, and Pokemon Emerald!
Wait. . . then there’s no room for Advance Wars. . . crap.

Come on Nintendo, crank up the GBA titles to 11 and give us the above mentioned! D:

Also, here’s to GBA Pokemon titles on the eShop. Potentially the biggest reason for this? Picture a 3DS Pokemon title where you could import Pokemon not only from other DS carts, but the virtual console save data of the GBA titles. O_o

    • Four Swords will be free to owners of a DS/i and 3DS by 2011 Q4

  • What’s the point of SELECT GBA games on the 3DS? It’s easier to buy a GBA/NDS and the cartridge with the game of YOUR choice.

    • Some prefer rereleases.  Plus, games like Amazing Mirror are rather expensive you can half maybe even quarter your price on the eShop.

  • I hope they include Minish Cap, so far I’ve only played two of the announced GBA games (Yoshi’s Island and Super Mario Bros 3) so I’m very excited to have “new” games to experience. Minish is also one I’ve never played but always wanted to so please include it Nintendo!

  • Great to see those games. ^^
Hoping they decide on making the GBA games available later on seeing as I didn’t/don’t have the money to buy the 3DS during the Ambassador Program thing. *o*
