Firebrand Will Fly To Australia In Gargoyle’s Quest : Ghosts ‘n Goblins

By Ishaan . August 12, 2011 . 8:30am

Firebrand sure has been getting around lately. Not only is he included as a playable character in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, his own game, Gargoyle’s Quest: Ghosts ‘n Goblins was recently released on the 3DS Virtual Console in Japan (read more here).

It won’t stay in Japan for long either. The Australian Classification Database recently rated Gargoyle’s Quest: Ghosts ‘n Goblins for an eShop release, which means at least one territory is getting it in the foreseeable future.

    What about the SNES game/version?

That game was good too, has it been re-released?

    • Exkaiser

No, Demon’s Crest isn’t on the Wii’s VC yet.

      Kinda unfortunate.

And now we realize Capcom’s motives for placing Firebrand on UMvC3.  Nice one Capcom.  Atleast we now know the entire interview was bs.

    • mikanko

      Yes, everything is a conspiracy.

Never mind when asked directly about upcoming Gargoyle’s Quest releases/re-releases MvC3’s producer said the development team had decided to include him into the game separately, and Capcom didn’t have direct influence over the cast decisions.  Only laying down deadlines about when they needed to finish the game.

I mean, obviously being in multiple games and what Niitsuma himself considered a prolific character held sway in their decisions. It’s just considering Firebrand play style adds very unique gameplay to the cast, why doubt game developers when they say they chose the character because of that?

Most of UMvC3s balance changes focus on nerfing the two most successful methods of playing the game, and trying to add more viable playstyles with the existing characters. It makes sense the same thought went in to picking the new characters.

      • Exand

Well, playing devils advocate, at least some of the characters chosen for UMvC3 for both sides were influenced by agendas by the respective companies.

Marvel chose and forced Capcom into leaving certain characters out (Venom) while specifying others (Dr Strange, Iron Fist = movies being planned) into being in the game for marketing reasons.

Capcom pulled Mega Man from inclusion because they’re doing a restructuring of the franchise and didn’t want him in any new games.

So it’s not a big leap to think Firebrand was put in there for marketing purposes to restart the G&G / spin-off franchises, which just happens to start with the re-release of Firebrand’s quest.

Except it seems likely Megaman X will be in another update or dlc should UMvC3 sell well.  They’ve mentioned him and Gene being two of the last characters they were looking at when making their selections.  He’s also said X was the only Megaman they’ve really considered putting in.  If there was any ultimatum to keep him off the roster he would never be on a list.  If people want to say everyone involved is a big fat liar, it’s fine, I mean people are entitled to opinions and all, but there’s really nothing to back it up.

Niitsuma went on record saying the cast was cut to meet the November deadline pushed on them from higher ups.  His intention was to make UMvC3 58 characters, but they didn’t have the time/money.  If he’s really such a big old bag of secrets, why would he even bother saying this in an interview?

Saying the main reason they picked Firebrand was because they were looking for a villainous monster that flies is a fully viable reason.  It’s not like he’s ever said that upcoming Gargoyle’s Quest games weren’t a part of the reason they were looking at Firebrand in the first place, just not the reason he was chosen from their list.

I think it’s a little crazy how everyone is so quick to call the developer a liar.  People were already shouting how Frank West was there as an agenda to push the new Dead Rising 2, when he was a character planned for MvC3 before the DR2 remake was probably an idea.  He even had CG done for him in the teaser trailers from last year that had to be edited out.

The dev team wants to put in popular characters, characters they personally like, and characters recognizable with other Capcom franchises.  They want it to be a successful game after all.  There’s no reason to doubt them when they say they were fully allowed to choose whichever Capcom characters they wanted.  Capcom probably benefits far more from MvC3 being a solid fighting game than strictly a marketing tool.  If that wasn’t the case there’d be a more recent Dante than the one from DMC3, or Zangief instead of Haggar etc.

Marvel is obviously a different story.  They’ve clearly stated there were certain characters Marvel pushed for to grant their current line of comics more exposure, and to a lesser extent movies and maybe cartoons(I don’t know how much of a share Marvel owns in those).  If Marvel had money invested in X-Men First Class (Fox) instead of The Avengers(Marvel Studios) we could well see an Emma Frost instead of Hawkeye or some such etc.  They’ve made no effort to conceal that.

          sorry for making another essay, lol. This whole thing is just so silly. -_-;

It’s unfortunate I never got the chance to play the original game starring Firebrand, because I like classic games, I think I’ll enjoy playing this one.

I just wish I could play this on a handheld, on PC it’s not the same thing… I’ve got to buy a 3DS since my Nintendo DS is not working anymore and that the touch screen got messed up.

Psshaw. Come back when they’re releasing Demon’s Crest- that game was AWESOME and Firebrand should have some of THOSE moves in UMvC 3. Then again I guess they’re thinking that they want to see if they can sell this game and possibly LATER on give us Demons Crest.
