Shogakukan Planning Simultaneous Multilingual Publishing

By Ishaan . August 13, 2011 . 12:00pm

Japanese publisher (and joint owner of Viz), Shogakukan, have set up a new "multilingual publishing project unit" unit internally, which will select books to be published simultaneously in multiple languages, according to a Nikkei Shimbun report (via ANN).

The first book as part of this new initiative is Nihon no Mirai ni Tsuite Hanasō (Talk About the Future of Japan), an educational book about business. The Japanese edition will be sold through Japanese bookstores, while the English edition will be sold in North American bookstores and on Apple’s electronic book service.

Additionally, Nikkei reportedly mention that, while Shogakukan have sold rights for manga and other publications to overseas publishers, they will now have more of a hand in every step of the publishing process, from translation to sales.

This means…we’ll be seeing more and more English-translated Japanese books, including light novels, right?

    That’s nice.

Hopefully light novels are included, though the Light Novels I want (No. 6) are not from Shogakukan :(

Internal management, huh… If this includes internal translation, surely there are people with good English comprehension for hire in Japan. I hope final prices aren’t very high though.

Quite interesting overall. Gotta see how it goes.

Whoops, sorry folks. That last line was meant to indicate that they’re a joint owner of Viz, but I later edited that into the beginning and then forgot to remove the line from the end. No heart-stopping climax, sorry!

I hope they include Spanish soo enough.

This is quite interesting, I hope this help give manga that would be release in Japan to be release at the same time in US.
