Armored Core V Brings Mech Warfare To Gamescom With A New Trailer

By Ishaan . August 17, 2011 . 11:02am

From Software recently delayed Armored Core V after receiving feedback from the game’s beta testers. The game has been delayed to January 2012 in Japan, but that didn’t stop Namco Bandai from releasing a new trailer at Gamescom:

You play the role of a mercenary in Armored Core V, assisting a group rebelling against a dictator. While missions in the game can take up to an hour to complete as players battle for control of territory, From Software have also created quick missions consisting of simple tasks.

It looks nice, with those gorgeous mechs…however why is the voice acting so mellow, they could really sound more into the action.

Yeah, the voices sound pretty lax, like they’re playing a video game or something.

The monotone voice I think is coming from the Operator role, so I’m hoping in team games if a real person takes the role we won’t have to hear the dull voice droning monotone commands…

Ikr? The previous operator voices weren’t always this unenthusiastic.

I was going to comment on that. It sounds too fake and robot-like. I’ll probably mute it :/

      agree XD

at least this will hold us until the next Zone of the Enders game or a Super Robot Wars game with this kind of gameplay ^^

I think they’re just there to be used as a communicative tool.  Like if you’re playing a Japanese person in the operator role and they want you, “unit 5″ to stay where you are on the map, or engage enemies in a certain part of the map etc.

It’s not conductive of the games narrative or anything. If you’re playing with people who have mics/share your language I doubt you’ll be hearing them much at all.

    BEST.VOICES.EVER.

Dont worry, when the game goes online it will be filled with many people who have very passionate and creative uses of all seven curse words.

I like to string them all together myself.

Finally, we get a gameplay video rather than a CG video.  Looks amazing.  I’m a huge AC fan so this is a day one purchase for me.

I want an Operator with a female voice !

  • mikanko

As for the voices I think they’re supposed to be team chat?  Kinda like text prompt you could use in Phantasy Star Online or Final Fantasy XI, but voiced instead.  It’s pretty stale, but that’s what mics are for.

It’s probably useful if you’re playing with people in Japan though as
you can use those commands and they’ll hear Japanese whereas otherwise
you wouldn’t be able to communicate with them.

I am probably looking forward to this more than any other game that includes making things go boom.

The whole thing still looks kinda meh to me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to be a killjoy, but I just think the Armored Core series has so much more potential than what it’s being given. Understandably every game has a backstory if you pay attention, but there’s nothing really personal or in your face about any of it. You don’t get to see your opponents face to face, nothing, they’re just voices. It’d be nice if there were some human elements to the game via cutscenes so you get to know a little more about your enemies etc. It’d just be nice if they fleshed out the enemy AC pilots. Also the backgrounds still look kinda blah, and I really hope they’d get rid of the useless MTs….they’re merely cannon-fodder of the lowest tier, why not just replace most MTs with mass-produced ACs or something. The combat is awesome and everything, it’d just be nice if they put all of that intensity and speed to good use instead of running circles around essentially turret-like MTs. I could be completely wrong as I’ve not seen enough of the game yet, but AC keeps following a trend and they never really seem to iron out the main problems with the series. I could go on and on but I’d look like a troll, but in reality I’m a fan of the series just looking for a little more polish.

But Lezard Valeth was a troll in VP xDD

In my opinion the game looks good. As you say the issue is the storyline (you only hear voices and nothing more)  I hated the controls in the old AC but the newer ones in the ps3 feel that they improve a lot yet your complain about moving in circles is very understable but In my opinion I feel the mech more realistic that way without being overpower like other games.
AC is more like create your own mech as you desire and do some dificult mission. This new AC5 add an interesting thing about controlling territory and quick mission as optional ones but we know that this game is more multiplayer focus now, which is the main reason now for create an awesome mech.

My conclusion for me is: SOLD! xD
