Mega Man X2 Is Headed To The Wii Virtual Console

The ESRB recently rated Mega Man X2 for the Wii, which means it’s headed to the Virtual Console service sometime in the future.

This makes it the seventh Mega Man to be released on the Virtual Console. The ones out so far are: Mega Man, Mega Man 2, Mega Man 3, Mega Man 4, Mega Man 5 and Mega Man X.

When i read “megaman x headed to…” i inmediately though about Capcom releasing a remake for the psp, but then i read “…to the wii virtual console”…oh bummer

    • Vyrhn

        Loved those remakes!
Kinda want Powered Up 2 more.  Playable MM2 Robot Masters and customized levels where people abuse Quick Man’s laser traps.  Vita masterpiece right there.

          Agreed I’d love a Powered Up 2, Mega Man 2 was one of my first games ever and I still think to this day best in the series zwz;

I think around the age of 8 or 7 or so I spent more time with Megaman 2 than pretty much anything that wasn’t sleep.

It’s going to take a team of professionals to clean off the layer of dust currently encasing my Wii.

I see you don’t live in Europe either.

Mega Man X2? Seriously? Capcom thinks this game will make up for their bullcrap? I’m one VC release of MMX5 away from going Maverik on them.

It’s probably more with the rest of the world in mind, where X2 has no port yet. Capcom never brought x collection outside the Americas.

  • PrinceHeir

glad i picked up Megaman X Collection for PS2.

i still need to wait a little while till the price of Megaman Collection goes down.

now i can play all the Megaman and Megaman X games in one go :)

Sometimes you can get the Megaman Collection cheap on Amazon Warehouse deals.  They are considered used, but my copy of the game was in mint condition and only around $20

      • PrinceHeir

        thanks for the tip :)

btw any ideas on which sonic collection should i pick or any other platform games??

should i get the sonic collection on PS2 or the one in the PS3???

The Sonic Collections for the GameCube and PS2 are very different then Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection (PS3 and Xbox 360). If you had to only buy one I say go for the latter instead of the former. It’s got so much more to offer. The Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection is really a collection of some of the totally awesome Genesis games. It’s not just about Sonic the Hedgehog. And it has a crap ton of games; There’s 49 games in total.

Some of my favorite games are in there too. You got Shining Force I and II, Shining in the Darkness, Phantasy Star II III and IV, with Phantasy Star I as an unlockable, Shinobi III, Vecterman I and II, and the Sonic games to boot. And don’t get me started on Golden Ax and Altered Beast and Ristar. Really the list of great games go one and on. There’s just so many good games in this collection. Look it up on wiki they have a comprehensive list of what games made it too that collection. It’s well worth it.

That said the two Sonic Collections for the Gamecube and PS2 are different as well. Sonic Mega Collection isn’t worth it if you buy the Ultimate Collection though since it only has 7 games and every game in it is in Ultimate Collection as well. So really if you got Ultimate Collection your set to go.

Now the harder to find game but totally worth it is Sonic Gems Collection. This can be a bit tricky to find but it offers games not found in any other “collection” videogame. While some games are rare they kinda stink. Like Sonic R. It’s a Mario Kart-esque game with Sonic characters. While it’s a neat novelty and was only on Sega Saturn and the PC ports the game is kinda really sucky. lol Anyways the GameGear games are great but it doesn’t have Chaotix which is like the best Sonic GameGear game. But it does have Sonic CD. Which was only on the Sega CD peripheral add-on for the Sega Genesis and some PC ports. That game is probably the best Sonic game ever. Or it is if you ask good old opinionated me. lol But Sonic CD really makes the Collection worth it I think. Of course with both these Gamecube and PS2 Sonic collections they have some nice archives to them with art and movies and stuff. So there’s that to consider too.

Check out this Awesome Video from Sonic CD. Man I love this Opening still: [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPC8W672mXc]

A word of advice as well when it comes to “Genesis Collections” The PS2 and later the PSP via a port have Genesis Collection games too. This came out before the Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection. While the Genesis Collection for the PS2 and PSP are nice they don’t have nearly as many games as the Ultimate Collection and all the games in them are also in the Ultimate Collection. If you ask me the Ultimate collection is the best choice for the sheer amount of games it offers and the fact that you can easily snag it for about $20 or so.

          • PrinceHeir

i actually read all that :)

thanks Zero kun for the advice and tips.

i think i’ll buy the PSN verion one ^^

damn i always wanted to play the old shinobi games(need to get the PS2 one and Nightshade;Kunoichi)

damn that opening reminded me of Megaman X4 :)

question pretty much the best Sonic games are in the collection right?? any Sonic games should i also buy??? what about Sonic 4 or Sonic Generations???

oh i kinda like the 2D ones instead of the 3D ones.

          • http://zerodestinypro.blogspot.com/ Zero_Destiny

Oh no problem. Just want to say the Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection is a physical game. Although it might be on PSN to download. I’m not sure. Anyways yes this game has 7 Sonic games in it. Sonic the Hedgehog 1-3, Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Spinball, and Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine.

I think there all good games personally. Sonic 1 is still a pretty good platformer and holds up well. Sonic 2 is a classic and Sonic 3 I really love. Sonic and Knuckles is great too. It was really pushing the Genesis’ graphics too. Looks and sounds great. Sonic 3D Blast is an oddball. The Black sheep of the game series I guess. It’s nothing like a Sonic game. There’s some hate towards it for that. But I think for what it’s worth 3D Blast is a fun distraction and a pretty okay game. But it isn’t what you’d expect outta a Sonic game. Spinball is a pinball game with Sonic characters. Sonic himself is actually the pinball. lol The music in the game in great too. Remember lovin’ that music. It’s very catchy and Techno meats jazz I’d say. Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine is actually just a Puyo Pop puzzle game with Sonic characters in it. Dr. Robotnik is Eggman’s old name.

So the collection has all the Sega Genesis Sonic games. But yeah besides the Genesis games there really isn’t too many home console 2D Sonic games I can think of. Sega Saturn really dropped the ball and doesn’t have that many sonic games on it. And the ones it did have where all side games like Sonic R (a Mario cart game with Sonic characters) and collection games of old Sega Genesis games ironically enough. lol And after the Saturn we moved onto the Dreamcast with the first “true” 3D Sonic game Sonic Adventure.

There’s Sonic CD but it’s only for the ill-fated Sega CD a hard to find (but not that hard to find. Word of warning most are not worth it though since they break easily and the internet prices are inflated) add-on to the Sega Genesis system. It is Sonic’s Gem Collection for the Gamecube and PS2 but even that’s hard to find. I played Sonic CD on my old hand-me-down Windows 95 computer when I was like 12 or so. It’s a pretty solid 2D platformer. It’s a shame that Sega has made it such a hard game to find. Maybe you can find it in less than legal ways. I won’t say anymore though. lol

I had mixed feelings about the Sonic Generations demo but I’m coming around to it. Still I don’t know what to think until it comes out. Sonic 4 I’ve heard very bad things about. But at best I’d say that it’s not really a need to be played game. Not until episode 2 at least. Sega has gone on the record and noted the criticism. Hopefully episode 2 will be tweaked and be a lot better than the first episode. The portable games have been fun. Loved Sonic Advance games. The Sonic Rush games: Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure for the DS are great platformers. And aren’t that expensive. I think those are a pretty solid purchases. I’ve heard great things about Sonic Colors on the Wii and DS. I think the DS is just a 2D platformer but the Wii is both 2D and 3D platforming. Heard good things about both of them but I have yet to play ether of the games.

            amazing stuff :)

  • Crimson_Cloud

Kinda sad that Maverick Hunter X didn’t made good sales, or we would have another nice remake.

    • http://twitter.com/Leivra Leivra

Yeah I really wish if they remake X2 and X3.

      • http://twitter.com/Vanpan110494 Sentoro Katarashi

Remake of X5 would be nice too….

We know Megaman is dead to Capcom, so i doubt they make a sequel to Maverick Hunter X

  • http://twitter.com/Vanpan110494 Sentoro Katarashi

This is nice, but I wish that they added SNES compatibility to the 3DS. Ah well. I’ll just get the Wii U after it releases a few months later, then I’ll think about this.

There is very different enjoyment to play in virtual consoles. I have played mega man 2, mega men 3 on virtual console. It is my one of the favourite. I always like to play it.

  • Mister_Nep

Yay. It’ll be fun to see Green Biker Dude again. He was the greatest Maverick Hunter ever.

    IT’S TIME TO GET SERIOUS

Capcom’s Christian Svensson’s choice of words on the whole backlash from cancelling Legends 3 was something to the effect of “We’re not trying to kill Mega Man, we still love the Blue Bomber and it’s frustrating because Capcom doesn’t have anything to hold up and show the fans that we haven’t given up on Mega Man.” I responded by saying, if you really want to heal your fanbase, you might consider offering more classic Mega Man via Virtual Console or Playstation Network. Heck, I even posted a list on Capcom’s Unity site for what games ought to be available, A.S.A.P. On said list, I included X2 as a title that should be on Virtual Console and that, perhaps the only reason it might not ever get released was due to potential emulation issues with the C4 graphics chip.

Now I’m reading that X2 has been rated and should be seeing a release soon.

    …So…. thanks for listening, Capcom….?

I see some folks are still feeling burned and rereleasing X2 seems like Capcom trying to milk the fanbase. That’s absolutely one way of looking at it. Another way to look at it is this: X2 is released on Virtual Console and they take a closer look at how well it sells. If it sells better than expected, then they consider releasing X3 or other titles (e.g. Mega Man 6, 7, Soccer, etc.). And if they sell well, they give a second thought to the whole Legends 3 cancellation.

Sucks, but it *is* a business first and foremost. The support of the fanbase is only part of the equation – they need to make money, too. They need to be reminded that Mega Man is profitable, that their work is worth our hard-earned dollar. Kind of hard to convey that message if your idea of supporting their work is to circumvent the purchasing route in favor of downloading ROMs and running emulators.

Non-sequitur: the fact another X saga game got released in the VC made me sing “X” by Xzibit and “X Gonna Give It to Ya” by DMX.

Hm, recalling to the time Lupinko menioned X, it looks like he’d be for the next edition of Ultimate MvC3, in relation to the X saga.
