Max Factory To Release Metroid: Other M Samus Aran Figma Figurine

Max Factory To Release Metroid: Other M Samus Aran Figma Figurine

Earlier in the week, we read reports that Max Factory would be creating two officially-licensed Samus figurines for release in 2012, based on her look in Metroid: Other M.

I held off on posting the news since no images of the figures were available, but since then, Tokyo Hunter and Tomopop have managed to get ahold of some.

Both figures are planned for release in 2012. The one pictured to the right is a Figma.

The one below is a 1/8 scale static PVC figure of Zero Suit Samus:

You can find more images of both figures over at Tomopop in the link above.

    Those are awesome.
Also they can represent almost any game in the series, so it’s perfect.

    DAT ZERO SUIT

Dang, AmiAmi doesn’t have pre-orders up yet :|

    • mikanko

Not surprising with these two not coming till next year.  Can take weeks or months before they’ll show up to preorder after they first show up at a con.

New (huge) Aigis http://www2.moeyo.com/img/11/07/25/1/146.jpg and Fate/Zero Saber http://www2.moeyo.com/img/11/07/25/6/625.jpg attracted more of my attention from recent stuff shown up this month.  Doubt they’ll be up for preorder anytime soon though.  ><

Damn you yen exchange rate for making them so costly.

      • http://www.jb2x.com/wordpress/ JB2X

Oh… mein… gott… Those are glorious…  Why does it have to be so long before pre-orders arrive! D8

        • mikanko

Probably has something to do with a distributor like Amiami not knowing how many figures they’ll be able to get until it’s actually closer to production and the makers actually taking orders.  The unveiling these get at cons can be anywhere from a few months to close to a year before they actually start getting pressed.

      • PrinceHeir

damn the Aegis fig is  gorgeous O_____O

        • mikanko

It’s 1/6 scale too.  Would be kinda huge, and I already have http://www.alter-web.jp/figure/07/10_1/index.html so it’s hard to justify what will easily be 100$+ on that new one.  Tempting though.  I have a Saber too, but far different than Fate/Zero one, and the detail on her motorbike is awesome.

          Alter, GSC and MF are probably the only co’s I really buy from, though I’m not too big on figmas and poseables.  Which is probably harder on my wallet to be honest. >_<;

          • PrinceHeir

damn those details are just wow O____________O

as i already ask, can you differentiate my what are the types of figurines around. like some can be build from the ground up, others already made, and what’s this 1/6 scale or PVC thingy???

man im so jealous at people having this kind of figs O______O

          • mikanko

All the figures I personally own are plastic (PVC), and come assembled and painted.  The ones I’ve linked pictures to, and the Samus zero suit figure here are those.

The ones you put together are cold cast/polystone/resin kits.  They are incredibly fragile, and I’ve had earth shattering experiences seeing delicate pieces chip off, so I more or less stay away from them now.  Those can have a special amount of detail that can be pretty neat to look at, and they can be bought pre-assembled as well.  They are not the safest things to order internationally due to how fragile they are.

1/6 refers to the scale of the figure, so that 1/6 Aigis is 1/6 the size of what the sculptor assumes Aigis to be.  Most common size for character figs is 1/8.

          • Kibbitz

That’s not surprising, those are pretty much the three best companies around. I favour MaxFac and GSC more actually because I find myself not liking the face sculpting for Alter for a lot of their stuff. Kotobukiya and Megahouse do have nice items occasionally though, IMO.

Still, I’ve actually hung up my figure collector hat since last year, with a one-time weakness buy of that MaxFac Tony Taka Miku. Besides being expensive, I honestly don’t have the space for it and living overseas in a rented place means that it’s more stuff to move. When I last moved to my current place, my friend used a van for my personal stuff. My figures, they filled up his car completely except for driver’s seat, IIRC =P Not that many, I suppose, by collector’s standards, but I think it’s already way too many by now.

Edit: Found two photos of them, one of them in my friend’s car, the other being them stacked outside my room before I moved in:

            http://dl.dropbox.com/u/34453628/2010-10-17%2017.38.36.jpg

          • mikanko

            Yeah, I only have like 6-12 figs at any one time.  I try to sell as many as I buy yearly.  It’s just too expensive.  *Looks at yer pics*  I have that Rin and Ignis, hehe.  Prolly going to sell the Rin since I also have the new GSC one.  It’s hard to choose ~.~;

I personally prefer Alter over others, faces can be pretty subjective.  For example Alter’s Aigis face is spot on for me, and I don’t much care for the Max Fac Senjougahara etc.  I think it’s pretty case by case, and prolly depends on which figures people are interested in.  Still stay mostly with those 3.  Occasionally get a kotobukiya or megahouse, but yeah.

          • Kibbitz

Ah, you’re the buying and selling kind =) I can’t imagine selling any of mine, so I’m forever stuck with them~ It sounds difficult having to find buyers and make arrangements, though I may be merely overestimating.

I do agree that figures are case-by-case. Most companies do a relatively decent job on the body and accessories, so the deciding factor for me is always the face. Now that I think about it though, I might have more Alter than MaxFac. I actually should take time to record what I actually own just to see what my breakdown is by company. Though unpacking them out of the two closets to put them in again isn’t something I feel like doing _-_

          • PrinceHeir

man guess i’ll stick with the PVC ones :)

they look soo stylish, and the quality seems to be top notch, im not good a assemblying things and i suck at art so i guess i’ll stick with PVC no matter how high the price is ^^

i hear ya, heck with all the customs looking through shipments, i can see why a certain douchebag might harm the models
since they’ll just make a excuse on “inspecting” things instead of just taking care it nicely. heck i remember this guy throwing
our bags in the airport when we were booking in. can’t he tell there are fragile things like games, laptop and so on??? unbelievable.

though Samus seems to be big for a 1/8 size. 1/8 is larger than 1/6 right??? :D

where do you buy though??? and what figure companies should i pay attention to when they are offering my kind of figs??

heard good smile is an awesome for they’re Black Rock Shooter Models what else??

are the Square Enix Playarts good??? since they have Snake and Adam.

sorry for asking soo many questions ^^

          • mikanko

Not so much customs guys, just resin figures break super duper easy.  Can be packed pretty well and still stand a good chance at breaking through normal handling, especially during a trip across the oceans.

Anywho, companies are pretty subjective.  Alter is my personal favorite, but mileage will vary.  You can always google the figure you’re looking at and see if you can find a review with better pictures of it.  Myfigurecollection.net has a pretty decent sized gathering of pictures as well.

I’d reccomend buying from hlj.com and amiami.com.  Depends on availability and cost.

          • PrinceHeir

gonna check out myfigurine for sure ^^

ohh amiami is definitely good but im not sure if they accept visa???

hlj will check it as well :D

  • http://www.facebook.com/CalientePhoenix Phoenix Caliente

Are you sure that is Samus? From the brief glances Ive had of the series, I thought Samus referred to the aerial dinosaur like dragon creature? The Zero Suit interests me enough to want to play Other M now.

    • http://profiles.google.com/zferolie A.J. Ferolie

       The Dragon is Ridley.

  • http://www.yazuka.net Yazuka

A bit of a shame it isn’t the regular zero suit Samus, without the high heels and the mole. Still a good looking figure and I would love to have it.
    Both of them actually.

  • DanteJones

Planning to get one Ishaan? That’s some crazy detail on those, I’d probably pick one up myself. Too bad the Zero Suit isn’t a figma though. :O

    • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

I’ve held off buying any Figmas so far (even when Kris kept showing off his Saber) but I think I might look into this, yea. I’m a giant Metroid nut so I don’t mind spending a little money on Metroid stuff occasionally!

      • DanteJones

Nice, if you do pick it up you should get her ship to go along with it. It lights up and everything. >:D

        • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

Hahaha, I’ve drooled over that ship for ages but I’m not willing to plonk down that kind of money!

      • PrinceHeir

man your actually a big fan of Metroid :)

  • Mecha_the_Hedgehog

Wow both are really impressive although I would love to have the Zero suit the best. not a giant fan of the mole but its still a really great piece.

  • http://bluehighwind.blogspot.com/ BlueHighwind

    HAHAHAHAHA!

No no no.  No way I’m buying any Metroid Other M toys.  Not in this life.  Will they be selling any Sonic 2006 toys next?

  • AndyFe

those are both pretty cool I would get the power suit one because I already have a zero suit samus and it’s basically that same looking statue

  • PrinceHeir
    • Aoshi00

These figures are too manly for my desk lol..  yeah, both Samus are hot.. would be cool if the armored one has a different replacement Samus head..

      • PrinceHeir

it would actually cool to put Samus in the middle and put Naked Snake and Adam Jensen in her side as bodyguards XD

are you getting this Samus also?? :D

        • Aoshi00

It’s tempting, but it’s ok, I’m actually not a huge Metroid fan even though these figures are very nice.. lol a pretty lady surrounded by two lethal macho men, I don’t know, they just look too mean… I prefer the Batman Arkham City statue..  but not getting the LE either :(..

          • PrinceHeir

ahaha ones a a legendary hero, and the other a augemented dude. man that would be sweet if Big Boss and Adam Jensen would team up :)

oh oh oh btw. since your very very experienced in buying figurines and imports. can you recommend me places that i can buy one of these???

im thinking of buying this Samus and Adam Jensen when it get’s released. but i don’t know where to start. i also missed out my KOS-MOS figures back then T____T

            http://www.amiami.jp/shop/?set=english&vgForm=ProductInfo&sku=FIG-MOE-2205&template=default/product/e_display.html

i definitley don’t want to miss Samus and Adam as well :(

as for Big Boss, i don’t know he the peace walker version(the picture that i showed you) is still being sold :(

thanks for the tips and tricks though. i really am thankful you help me out in that Yes Asia order, and your recommendations as well in other places.

you seem to have a grand collection yourself O_____O

          • Aoshi00

AmiAmi is the place to go for figures and limited edition of games, they have the absolute best price. The pre-orders are not up yet, but if you’re worried things get pre-sold out fast, you might want to check the AmiAmi homepage daily, the downside is you see a lot of temptation lol.. YesAsia or PlayAsia (or last resort ebay) sell some figures but for much more and not economical.. for games though Y-A sometimes has the edge on price.

No prob man, don’t mind spreading the word since Y-A is a very reliable seller.  I’m very satisfied w/ their customer service and if there are items you don’t see on their website you could send an e-mail to special order too.   For things I want, I always check w/ these 3, AmiAmi, Yea-Asia, or cdjapan.co.jp.  I’ve ordered things w/ Y-A/ cdjapan.co.jp / Amazon Jpn for quite a few years, AmiAmi I’ve started using in the last 2 years or so recommended by someone here before :) all of them are great and you could check them to compare for the best price..

          • Zal_Yagun

You’re not NA? Amazon still has Kos-mosVer4, but hell of alot more expensive then when i got mine.

But the armored Samus would fit nicely next to my Aigis, Metis, and Kos-mos figmas + the BRS animation figmas . not to0 keen on static PVC figures

          • PrinceHeir

            @Zal_Yagun:disqus

            thanks man :)

it maybe pricey, but at least i can get this for sure :P

man you have pretty much the best Mecha Girls in Video Game history :P

what are other types of figurines?? im getting confuse about this PVC and static thing

          • PrinceHeir

yeah AmiAmi seems to be the best place :P

they do accept Visa right??? :D

man it seems Figures can be competitive at times :)

have you also shop in these as well??

AmiAmi takes PayPal, you could register your visa card w/ them.  I never bought from these sites but I’ll bookmark them :)..  I really haven’t gotten into figures until recent years (other than building a lot of mecha and Gundam models when I was young, the Five Start Stories ones were amazing, I still have a Tekkaman Blade somewhere), and I’m no expert either..  for mechs, Revoltech makes some great smaller figures..

PVC is just the common material for figures, there are other more expensive kinds.. 1/6 is one kind of figure, just means it’s approx scaled to 1/6 of the the char’s height, to 12″..   I used to have Gundam model kits (and SD figures), even some Saint Seiya action figures (still got a couple), when I was a kid.. Most figures are completely finished and pre-painted, unless you look for the kind that you want to brush paint or spray paint yourself (I ruined some when I was a kid w/ amateurish paint job lol), those are for the hardcore hobbyists, I remember my cousins painted many resin kits for Dragonball or Kamen Rider.. I had an uncle who had lots of Gundam toys and models but that was many years ago..

Cool you finally got your order.  The Ep Zero novel is indeed great, has a really neat transparent jacket (I took it off when I was reading it, didn’t want to bend it), the other book I treasure is the 1000 years of dreams novel for Lost Odyssey (these were actually in-game, just compiled into a book).. If you like 13, you should get the Ultimania Omega Mook too, lots of illustration not seen anywhere, I have the ones for X, 12, & 13..

Only get the figures you must need though, too many good ones and too expensive :)

          • PrinceHeir

ohhh i see, ill try to make a paypal account ^^

ahh as the other mikanki already said, the most common ones are 1/8 right??

i see2, nah i’ll stick with the pre assembled ones, i really don’t have time for doing all this work, not to mention i suck at anything art “-_______-

man i actually wanted to buy that Lost Odyssey Book, but i need to get the game first before buying it. my brother actually mentioned that so he might buy it in the near future.

thanks for the help, and yes i need to concentrate those who i reall need like KOS-MoS or Snake :)

oh and what companies do you usually buy figures from???? since i have seen different KOS-MOS from different companies.

          • Aoshi00

AmiAmi or cdjapan.co.jp for figures, usually the former has the best deal if you could pre-order it before it sells out.  I haven’t tried other sites, but AmiAmi’s discount seems hard to beat.

      • PrinceHeir

will check them for sure :P

  • ThunderGod_Cid

Definitely getting the Zero Suit ver.

  • http://flailthroughs.blogspot.com Flailthroughs

Finally, an Armored Samus with not-awful sculpt and articulation! I’ve been waiting for this for so long now.

  • NaruKami

I’m happy a good armored Samus figure is existent and all, but I like the Zero suit one. Sexy.

  • AzureNova

O_O Sexy….Zero….Suit….Samus…..taking…..over……brain. (Hands wallet over to Samus)

  • Guest

That reminds me…I need to finish Other M and finish Fatal Frame IV so I can unlok Zero suit Samus outfit

  • d19xx

I think Metroid is a pretty cool guy. eh kills mumma brain and doesnt afraid of anything.

On a serious note. I could never find a Dimension Diver figure of Samus in my country. :P

  • Kai2591

What next? A Figma Master Chief and Solid Snake? I’d totally buy those!

  • thebanditking

That zero suit Samus looks great, will look even better next to my first 4 figures Phazon suit Samus.
