Xseed Are Teasing “Something” (And It Looks Creepy)

By Ishaan . August 30, 2011 . 12:02pm

Xseed ran a teaser trailer today for “something”. Here it is:

Back in July, Xseed’s director of publishing, Ken Berry shared with us that they would be publishing a “unique horror title” for PSP that we’ve covered in the past. This teaser seems to fit that bill.

    Corpse Party!!!!! http://www.siliconera.com/2010/02/21/corpse-party-crawling-on-to-psp/

  • Jrpgfanatic

Over on the XSEED forums Tom (from the above video) told us to pay attention to what is in the background of the live-action portion. It’s a pretty big clue, in addition to the few frames of picture, and the word choice at the end.

Still, I’m very excited about this. It’s been a while since I played a horror game, let alone one in English.

    • Ryos

Can’t say I’m surprised but this is certainly a game I’m down for.

Welp…looks like we’re not getting Danganronpa.

At least some people are getting what they want though :)Might check it out myself too…

  • MrSirFeatherFang

I just finished 999 yesterday. I have to say, I’m in the mood to stay up at night and play something scary lol. (Let’s just say the first ending I got… was disturbing)

  • Wackoramaco87

Snaps, I was really hoping for Danganronpa, but this looks interesting too. Glad to see it’s coming out soon-ish!

Nice to finally put a face to the name!

    • http://www.facebook.com/clifford.michael Clifford Michael

I hope it’s the first one with the character sprites.

  • Darkrise

    Called it. It’s Corpse Party.

  • Phoenix_Apollo

Oh God, yes. I hope it’s the first one, I’ve been wanting to play that for about a year now.

  • neo_firenze

With all due respect, I’d rather have Xseed putting more effort into finishing up Trails in the Sky parts 2 and 3 (and frankly, then to move on to Zero/Ao no Kiseki).  If they can pull those off and still release stuff like Corpse Party, more power to them.  But from comments they seem to be saying the reason TitS is taking a long time is simply due to the resources needed for such a large project.  If those resources are being diverted to stuff like Corpse Party, I can’t say I agree with those priorities.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2BOP4Z5KE5N7T5MUGIV6TEFMT4 Thomas

Our resources are being devoted to other games in general. We’re a very, very small company (probably smaller than you realize), and if we focused solely on Trails 2, we would be out of business LONG before we finished. We need revenue from other projects to fund future titles. It’s sort of the catch-22 of video game localization: If you have a long project, you’d better have the money to fund it. If you don’t, then you need to get the money… which means doing other, smaller projects… which further delays the large project.

So please don’t think we’re diverting resources from Trails 2 to work on other projects. Those resources were planned for other projects from the start. Games like Wizardry, Solatorobo, Fishing Resort, this mysterious horror title and our future unannounced games (of which there are many) have always been in the cards. Trails 2 simply needs to wait its turn in line, just like Trails 1 did. ;)

      • neo_firenze

Well, I’ll be supporting you.  Got Wizardry, going to pick up Solatorobo, and I’ll add this new “mysterious” title to my list ;)  Knowing that in some way that helps get Trails 2 and 3 out makes it even easier to make that purchasing decision.

Doesn’t hurt to constantly remind anyone who will listen how much I want more Xseed localizations of Falcom games though!  The longer the wait, and the more comments I see about PSP being “dead” in the west, the more I worry that Trails 2 and 3 won’t show up.  If they’re coming eventually, I’m fine though.  UMD, PSN only, some sort of Vita versions, whatever.  Get em out, I’ll buy them.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2BOP4Z5KE5N7T5MUGIV6TEFMT4 Thomas

You might be surprised by this mysterious horror title, too! It’s not merely a dusty motel on the long road trip to Trails 2, but rather a wondrously enthralling hotel and tourist destination that may even convince you to extend your stay just so you can experience more of what it has to offer. ;)

…Dropping the silly metaphor, this really is a better game than you’re probably expecting it to be, *especially* for a Trails fan. It’s got a deep and involving story, extraordinarily well-developed characters and an absolutely unbeatable atmosphere.

It may be hard to imagine any story ever being enough for you again, after Trails… but if you can make room in your heart for something a bit different, I think you’ll find yourself just as captivated with this fantastic little gem!

We wouldn’t be bringing it to you (and making silly teasers for it!) if we didn’t think it was something truly special, after all. ;)

          • landlock

Oh! could you answer my question if you can is there any news about Wizardry making an appearance in Europe in the near future?

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2BOP4Z5KE5N7T5MUGIV6TEFMT4 Thomas

Can’t say anything specific or give a release date or anything, but we are still working on it. Sorry for the delay!

          • 128bitigor

I’m glad to hear the Trails is still in your plans. Although, given how long it would take to translate this monster, I’m kind of afraid that PSP would be dead in the West by the time you finish with it : ( Trails number one had more dialogues in first 2 hours than the latest FF in the entire game…

(That would make my pleas for bringing over Akiba’s Trip over quite silly, eh?)

      • Ladius

It’s absolutely fine Thomas, we want Trails 2 but before that we want XSEED to thrive, and since that game’s script is gigantic its translation will surely take more time than normal (especially since you guys aren’t exactly Square Enix in terms of resources).

Personally, I will buy all of your games just to support your bravery, even if I would have bought Corpse Party in any case since it looks to be really interesting.

        Also, best teaser ever XD

WHY YOU BE CREEPIN’, XSEED?!  :(

I like horror games and Corpse Party sounds interesting.  I will certainly pick it up and play it…during the day…in well-lit areas…surrounded by images of puppies and rainbows…:)

  • sirfratley

Hey, Corpse Party looks great, but i really want my special edition of Trails in the sky: The Second, please xseed!

  • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

    Rofl wtf xD

  • Dokurochan

I love you xseed! This vid was hilarious and you guys rock for bringing out Corpse Party and Falcom games. Keep up the amazing work!

    • KOKAYI5

corpse party is that an rpg?

      • Kibbitz

Should be an ADV, I think.

  • fanoultimate

    ( ゚Д゚)

  • 128bitigor

Corpse Party? Really? I played the demo and it wasn’t even that good – It is not a jRPG as some of you may think – it is a visual novel with a RPG-maker exploration – and it does not serve this game well. I would prefer some fully-fledged title rather than this.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2BOP4Z5KE5N7T5MUGIV6TEFMT4 Thomas

Awww… Now, I’m not confirming our mystery title, mind you… but I’ve gone on record in the past as being a pretty big Corpse Party fan, so I feel the need to stand up for that game, whether or not it’s the title in question.

It’s definitely not a game for everyone, but I absolutely love Corpse Party, and would even rank it as one of my favorite horror games of all time. I think the retro-style graphics help quite a bit in enhancing the atmosphere, and the *totally amazing* soundtrack (that really needs a full OST release, dagnabbit!) definitely adds to that (as do the cool audio effects — play the demo again with headphones sometime, as it changes things quite a bit!).

But most importantly, I just find that the game has a really engaging plot with some very realistic, very flawed characters to which you can easily relate. It’s… actually a really well-written game!

I paid far more than I’m willing to admit for the game’s Japanese LE a month after its release (as it was already out-of-print by then, due to the insanely small quantities that were produced), spurred on by my enjoyment of the demo… and I don’t regret that purchase one bit. I’ve since spent over $100 on the LE for the sequel, which I am *eagerly* anticipating after playing *its* demo, as it seems just as intriguing (and I can’t wait to get my Naomi and Seiko figurines! Yaaaay!). ;)

If our mystery title is indeed Corpse Party, then I’d say gamers are getting a pretty awesome game.

(Then again, if our mystery title is Dangan Ronpa, Over My Dead Body, Tokyo Mono Hara Shi or any of the other games people have been guessing, gamers are still getting a pretty awesome game, as those are all pretty rockin’ titles too! Maybe I’m just a sucker for good horror, I dunno…)

      >.> I found nothing wrong with CP at all this is a good title once you get into its more about thinking.
