New Pokémon Center In Japans Tohoku Region To Provide Relief To Quake Victims

The Pokémon Company will be opening a new Pokémon Center in Japan’s north-eastern Tohoku region, which took the brunt of the the devastating earthquakes this past year.

The intention behind the store is to bring children together and help them cope with the disaster.

The new Pokémon Center will be the seventh of its kind to be built in Japan. Each of these locales sell Pokémon-related merchandise, ranging from the games to cards to clothing.  This particular store is being built as part of the “Pokémon With You” disaster relief initiative, which aims to provide relief and raise funds for disaster victims.

A lot of those kids are probably having financial issues, they should probably offer contests and maybe give discounts to the families if you ask me.

Agreed.  It says they’re fundraising for disaster relief, which I like.  Hopefully they’ll host free activities and the like that give kids a chance to actually do something rather than shop.

I went to the center in Yokohama – I have never seen so much Pikachu in my entire life.

Part of the campaign (see ANN’s link) also involves organizing events and handing out Pokémon merchandise, so I think that’s accounted for. So, it’s both disaster relief and fund-raising, it sounds like.

Not a big Pokemon fan here, but I think Pokemon is for anyone who likes the series. That’s why it’s rated E for Everyone, so I don’t see why people like you have to say it’s only for kids though (not being rude though).
But I stopped playing the games. Why? It’s the Pokemon. They look so weird now. The only Pokemon games I still play are the remakes of the Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn regions. The only thing I do with the other games is listen to its music. :P
