Get Ready For A Massive Shock Pokémon Announcement Next Weekend

Some of you may recall that we’ve mentioned a Japanese show named Pokémon Sunday on Siliconera a couple of times in the past.

Pokémon Sunday was a variety show covering all aspects of the franchise, that aired on the TV Tokyo network in Japan. A successor to that show, Pokémon Smash, has taken its place as of last year.

The next episode of Pokémon Smash will reportedly feature a “massive shock announcement” from Game Freak’s Pokémon director, Junichi Masuda, according to a report at Serebii.net. No other details have been hinted at, such as whether this involves the reveal of a new monster or a new game.

Before you get your hopes too high for another mainline Pokémon RPG on 3DS, though, keep in mind the comments made by the Pokémon Company’s president, Tsunekazu Ishihara, earlier this year in Famitsu magazine.

Ishihara promised back in July that new Pokémon announcements would be made before the end of the year, but that they would pertain to both Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS owners. One of the 3DS-specific possibilities mentioned was an expansion to Pokédex 3D, to include monsters from games other than Black/White.

Also note that, If this is indeed a “massive shock announcement,” and that it pertains to a new game, there’s a good chance we’ll at least see it mentioned at Nintendo’s 3DS press conference on September 13th.

    im hoping for a pokemon game like all the others but with actual control of your pokemon in a wide open arena like in dissidia or something. would actually make it interesting to play again.

    A 3DS remake of the Pokemon Trading Card game for the Gameboy.

      haha this would be genius.

    Pokemon Grey?

    • Tokom23

       The correct spelling is “Gray”, and I doubt it’ll come, unless we see surprises.

        Gray = American ver.
        Grey = British English ver.

          I was about to say that. We got some really fast keyboard typing people here!

          I’m American, and I’ve always preferred the British spelling since I was little. Weird, huh?

          • http://twitter.com/#!/GuiltyRaioh ShinkaRaioh

            Depends, I also think the British version looks better, it’s one of these preference words, lol.

          • Tokom23

            I thought the British spelling is usually used in names, not sentences, unless you’re British yourself.

          • http://twitter.com/Vanpan110494 Sentoro Katarashi

            To Tokom23 actually.
            I don’t think it really matters. Basically what you prefer, as long as you are aware of the differences between the two spellings, and you know when to use it properly in a sentence (I say this because we got some dumb people who can’t even type well -_-), then everyone’s okay with it, no?

    My prediction? A Pokemon MMO.

    I’d consider Game Freak, listening to Smogon, as a shocker, since Blaziken got deemed as an UBER!

    3RD gen. remakes and 3rd versions are considered givens.

    My Ideal Pokemon game: A kind of pokemon ranger game but where you have to creep through dungeons but you use pokemon and special movements as items, you for example use a vine whip as a hookshot or such you know like zelda items, use onyx to create bridges and such,what would be the plot?  retrieving dna or info on legendary pokemons that you can transfer to your main game.
