Final Fantasy X Is Being Remade For PlayStation 3 And Vita

Square Enix are remaking Final Fantasy X for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, they announced at Sony’s ongoing press conference in Tokyo. Shinji Hashimoto appeared on stage to announce the games as an anniversary event.

I’m flabbergasted. Truly. This was really unexpected for me…but not unwanted. I always play Final Fantasy more when it can be handheld (like FFVII on PSN).

So it’s going to be an actual remake and not just a port? I absolutely love FFX. It ties with VIII as my favorite FF ever. However, I have to admit I find this announcement a bit mind-boggling. I get that the game has an anniversary coming up, but it seems like they would be better served to remake one of the earlier games. VI, VII, VIII, or even IX would make more sense, IMO. Still, this is great news!

Nomura said once it’s not a matter of IF it’ll be remade, it’s WHEN. He’s wrapped up in the KH series and Versus 13 that it’s not even in the cards right now. And with the original creator of FF gone, Nomura is usually the main guy for FF7 stuff.

YESSSS XD Final Fantasy X was my very first mainstream Final Fantasy title and my “gateway drug” into the series. Because of that this game will always hold a special place in my heart. I know it’s not the best game in the series and a lot of haters will galdly piont that out, but this shows that SE is willing to make HD remakes of older Final Fantasy titles. Fans of VI and VII rejoice; there may be more remakes in the future.

I love this game and can’t wait to play the port, despite that I have to put up with Tidus once again, but he’s obviously not the worst Final Fantasy character in my opinion (I like his personality), so I’ll obviously manage. This is a great game and is recommended for anyone who adores the RPG genre (haters be hatin’).

Now I really have no excuse to sleep on this game. Fresh off IX, I thoroughly enjoyed the old school experience it provided me. After seeing some highlights of X and reading some notes about it, I think it was around that time I didn’t like the direction Final Fantasy was going, and moved to Suikoden series. Anyway, I should have given it a chance ’cause I heard Tidus is pretty cool and Auron is supposedly the most badass cool character of Final Fantasy history.

I definitely need to know if this is going to be a complete remake (ruining one of my favorite FF battle systems for some new jazz) or another HD port but with like…new models/graphics or something. Also, they better not throw in some extra endings or anything. They already blew that chance with FFX-2, which I personally disliked.
Regardless, I’m excited to see my favorite FF to date being reborn.

Do you honestly expect from SE that they will do FFX from scratch? They’ll model every texture for PS3, remaking all landscapes, monsters, events, cutscenes, bosses? Yeah, that Square is long way dead mate.

Oops, sorry, you’re absolutely right. I might have unintentionally excluded it because of the recent releases on PSN and Nintendo Channel, which can’t be counted as remakes, or because I find Bartz a really annoying character to fight against in Dissidia 012… (still playing it). Can’t tell for sure, but I love V as well.

Redoing Last Remnant for ps3 would be a dream that game was great although graphic engine was rough it was sorted for PC nearly but more work and the game would be fantastic

You can like what you like, but I still love Squares games. The Kingdom Hearts series is a personal favorite, and the new Final fantasies are good and changing. And what did square do that was so ambitious back in “those” days? Currios, not condescending.

games that are in any way different from others of their type.
Where has SaGa gone? Mana? Front Mission is now a crappy action game?

milked into Xenosaga, Parasite Eve is…Third Birthday looked like an
actiony TPS. Final Fantasy Tactics was turned into the thoroughly awful
Tactics Advance.
Compare against the 90s were they had all of the above PLUS Treasure of the Rudra, Threads of Fate, Vagrant Story, Einhänder, Brave Fencer Musashi; the most lauded of the Final Fantasies; publishing, they had Tobal, Bushido Blade, Ehrgiez… The SNES/PSX era was _remarkably_ good for Square, and I feel they’ve largely lost that magic.
To me, ambition doesn’t come from making huge overwrought multi-game projects that are guaranteed to sell well because they have “Final Fantasy” in the title (if, indeed, they ever come out at all). It comes from having the wherewithal to attempt something new to cultivate loyalty and not stagnate. Square, especially since their merger with Enix, feels like they have largely become stagnant, and it saddens me greatly.

I’m glad they’re going to remaster Final Fantasy X, as it is a good game in many ways and deserves it.
However, I’m a bit disappointed since I was expecting they’d prioritize the previous games. With all the demand for a Final Fantasy VII remake even, I assumed they’d listen to the fans – it’d be a commercial success, after all.
Let them recreate FFX; I just pray that they don’t forget the other games in the series. FFVII is a must – all the fans cry for Aerith in HD – and mayhap even FFVIII, which is a terribly underrated game in the series. The fact it manages to be so much more mature and serious than other titles is quite notable.
I don’t see FFIX remade as the whole atmosphere and visuals don’t really combine with the PS3 graphics era. Part of what made me enjoy FFIX was that odd and goofy kind of surrealistic style that I just can’t imagine with modern HD graphics.
As for the previous games, I can only speak for FFVI, since the other games aren’t as interesting to me. I suppose every one of them deserves a remake, but if I had to vote for one among the pre-FFVII games, it would be FFVI.
Oh, and I seriously hope Square-Enix doesn’t forget about the sequels and whatnot. If they’re going to remaster FFX, they better do the same with FFX-2, otherwise it’ll be incomplete. I doubt they will, considering how that game wasn’t as successful, but it’ll still be quite the flaw in the series if they ignore that one.

Nah, they can leave X-2 behind. The ending of X was perfect in my opinion; it’s not like anything terribly relevant happens at all in X-2 anyway. That, and we can all pretend Yuna never became a happy-go-lucky charicature of her former self.

True, the ending was quite good. I suppose X-2 may be a bit superfluous in that sense. And yes, as much as I liked goofy Yuna, it is a bit too out-of-character, in truth.
Still, if Square-Enix chooses to change parts of the story in FFX, then it’ll affect X-2 also, which is part of the reason I feel perhaps a remastering of both would be better. Heck, they might even join them into one single remade edition.
It wouldn’t really bother me if X-2 were ignored, I’m just appealing for integrity. Anyway, I still hope VII wasn’t forgotten – and VIII. It’s also slightly annoying that they picked a game that’s already quite good graphically to enhance instead of the simpler FFVII. I’m not saying that’s the reason they chose FFX, but it does seem a bit too coincidental. :|

Why are people acting as if this is a remake? It has been clearly announced this is just a remaster for the two systems. So there is no need to bitch and whine that you aren’t getting an FFVII remake.
Besides VII has had it’s day. VI and IX need remakes :P
