See God Eater 2′s New Visual Style

By Ishaan . September 14, 2011 . 2:34pm

Last night’s Famitsu magazine leaks reported that God Eater 2 on PSP would feature a brand new visual style reminiscent of Final Fantasy Type-0. Those leaks weren’t really off the mark. Famitsu.com have the first screenshots of the game:

Meh, can’t say I like it as much as the stylized anime, but it’s not like we’re going to get the game anyway. :(

didn’t we get burst which is pretty much an update version of the original? (correct me if im wrong)

      • Ryos

We did!  It’s the expanded version of the original.  But this late in the PSP life cycle (and the very different market here), I’d be surprised if we got this.

Well, I would hope they release (at least) a localized PSN version. It would (probably) be able to sell relatively well for PSV owners besides those who own a PSP. ^^

  • KOKAYI5

I wish people would stick with anime style longer. I like the drawn look of things. Nowadays everyone goes for realistic.

    • Hraesvelgr

Technically, its look still is “anime”, but it’s that “anime mixed with realistic” style that never really looks very good. Another example of this would be Star Ocean 4.

      • KOKAYI5

Yeah, I know what you mean. It’s fine. But people shouldn’t forget their roots of pure hand drawn art. I already get enough 3D stuff in every movie. Games are gonna be in 3D 9 time outta 10. But at least SOMETIMES do anime cutscenes.

Well, FF: Type-0 actually reminded me of Gods Eater a lot (more because of the destruction tone, perhaps).
I don’t really mind the changes. Though I really liked the original one more, I would like to try this one without being picky about the artstyle since it -still- is a good one. ^^
As long as the overall game is good, the details themselves aren’t that important for me. ;)

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

I see what they meant by looking similar. Dude wouldn’t look strange if he made an appearance in FF Type-0. Hopefully they go completely triple-B sequel-itis for this game (bigger, better, and bountiful). Especially in the new monster department, like a certain game it was inspired by…

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery; nothing wrong with that imo. Plus, this does look great on it’s own right, don’t mind if it’s taking some visual/artistic cues from Type-0 as long as it’s still fun to play.

  • http://tiny.cc/justintvbayorgasmic Genesis

looks really good. I like the art direction of this also.

  • http://strictlyapathy.comoj.com/ SoulArbiter

Ok. I can accept the new artistic direction, but will it ever get a chance at being localised?

  • puchinri

Heh, I thought this was coming out for Vita and thought that this would be something to get excited over the Vita for. But I’m content that it’s a PSP title. Cheaper for me. >u<

Wait wait wait…. Is this REALLY on psp!?

    *re-reads*
    O__O Amazing!!

  • exhume

I can’t say it doesn’t look beautiful, because it does. But Square-Enix themselves could use a little more visual diversity, I have trouble telling their characters apart in trailers and promo material…not a trend to encourage!

    • http://www.facebook.com/clifford.michael Clifford Michael

This isn’t SE. It’s Namco Bandai and Shift.

      • exhume

        Precisely my point!

    • Ryos

That isn’t a Square-Enix thing, it’s a Nomura thing.  And yes, they all look like they’re straight out of the same metrosexual reject school.

      • KOKAYI5

Wow. All. What a sweeping statement.

Im just so happy with the fact that there will be a sequel<3

  • Rafael Freitas

I only played the Gods Eater demo, so, maybe I can’t say with sure… But the game looked repetitive to me, the places were very similar, missions too. The combat is nice, I enjoyed a lot.

And the first thing that I thought seeing this images was Type-0.

Changing what need to be changed can be a nice sequel. Waiting a trailer to see how it looks.

  • http://www.facebook.com/clifford.michael Clifford Michael

Are the places going to be more expansive? I remember in Gods Eater Burst the environments were tiresome and got to be a bit boring about halfway through the game. I would want more small fry creatures to battle, leading up to the main mission baddie. But I doubt that’s gonna happen.

I liked the look and artstyle of the first game but this is still nice.  I enjoyed the first game but i hope they improved some stuff in the sequel, since it had its flaws

  • neogeno

I hope theres a good chance for an interview with Shift. I’m curious to know what drove the idea for the style. I really liked the first style better but im not particularly complaining.

  • Gilgadood

ah yes, they added legit hammers and lances this time, cant wait to see some more info

My body is ready! All I need is a localisation confirmation!

  • NipponjiRurouniJSRF

I like the old style better. It reminded me of the Tales series, it was my fix lol

  • Go2hell66

I do not approve of those pants…

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IB6XWGVQOD2XCH4ER7NYKK2A2M Shuyai

i think there are different guy. the first one is a guy, the second one is a girl with skirt and knee high sock/boot?

      • Go2hell66

oh ok that would make sense lol

i saw the trailer of this game.. the narration is in english.. so i think the localisation is possible..

  • 128bitigor

What a shame, I hoped for the Vita version. That means we won’t see the localisation… And I liked the original a lot despite rather boring gameplay, but the bullet customisation was toooo confusing. Anyone with a good concise guide?

    • willtell

There really wasn’t unless you count using other peoples bullets for “max efficiency”.  Liked the first game, but it started to get pretty boring (especially after the “1st ending” aka rank 5) as the novelty of it wore off.

Instead of finishing every mission and enjoying it, it became a gigantic chore of “I need 3 feathers” like a MMORPG.  Topped off with the pallet swaped enemies (basically) and the predictable story, it just made it so hard to finish the game even.
