Watch A CG Teaser Trailer For God Eater 2

By Ishaan . September 18, 2011 . 11:58am

Namco Bandai released a teaser trailer for God Eater 2 this past week. It’s all CG and no in-game footage, but it does give you a look at some of the Aragami:

    …English narration? What?

Ugh, still prefer the anime cutscenes by a mile.

  • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/DrakosAmatras DrakosAmatras

The CG work does look good. Although, it does have the drawback of reducing the characters’ distinct looks as it gets closer to photo-realistic looks. I wouldn’t have minded if the Anime style were to continue.

The English narration makes it sound like more of a movie trailer rather than a game’s.

  • evilmoogle

I like the game but…. why not vita?

btw, trailer is cheesy and cliché at the same time.
And somehow i will buy this game.

    • Ryos

Because releasing on the PSP is a guaranteed formula for success…in Japan.

    • SalomeHarras

There could be a lot of factors involved in that decision:

-Development of God Eater 2 started before the developer was aware of the Vita (unlikely) and the costs to transfer development were not worth it.
-They want to minimize development costs (recycling assets, not needing time to “learn” a new system, etc.) in order to spend those resources in other ways, or to simply increase their profit margin.
-Marketing told them to.  Perhaps marketing felt that the Vita presented too much of a risk whereas the established system was the better option.
-Expanding on the previous point, perhaps they want to wait for the Vita to develop an established user base before expending resources to develop for it.

It could be any of these, a combination of these, or other factors that we’re simply not aware of.  That being said, I’m sure the thought did cross their mind at some point, but for whatever reason, it was shot down.

English narration on a Japanese trailer? LOL. How will some of the Japanese understand him?

    • http://twitter.com/Zufield Zufield

Did you not see the subtitles on the right-hand side of the screen?

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

-_- Yes I see that, but that’s what I don’t get because having an English narration with Japanese subtitles on the side makes it more like a trailer for the English than the Japanese in my opinion. Shouldn’t it be the other way around?

        • Ryos

Japan does this sort of thing relatively often because it’s cool.  I’ll give them this much credit though – usually in situations like this they pull a voice actor with limited command of the English language to do these lines (and it shows if you’re a native speaker).  I remember a while back when there was an “American” character speaking in English where I had to read the subtitles to figure out what he was saying.

This is certainly not being done for the benefit of an English audience, since D3 has already said there are no plans for this game.

            Oh, I see. Thanks!

ho. ly. crap. that wolf aragami looks freakin magnificent

    • http://www.facebook.com/jazzlyn.lim Jazlynn Lim

Sadly, it’s ANOTHER mutant Vajra. Oh well, it’s fun fighting those things anyway (though not when trying to farm for crap that just won’t drop).

p.s. I prefer fighting Hannibal and its cousins though.

  • karasuKumo

The music, animations and even the enemy design reminded me of that scene (my personal favourite scene) in Advent Children where Cloud fights Bahamut SIN in the city. If all the cut-scenes are that quality I wont mind them replacing the anime ones. It looks great :D.

  • http://twitter.com/ShiningxWander Wander

A definite change in character design from God Eater, but it’s not a bad thing though. I can’t wait to see some gameplay videos xD. Hoping God Eater 2 will make it to NA, but if not I can always import o.o

  • http://www.facebook.com/clifford.michael Clifford Michael

    Midair eating? YES PLEASE.

  • Kevin (lightningrook)

Really hope this gets localized, love the first one (speaking of which, I still need to beat the Burst storyline).  As someone who has yet to see a real dealbreaker that would make me get a Vita, more PSP stuff is always welcome.

Main gameplay hints I saw were Hammer and Spear type Arcs and the ability for Aragami to buff each other.  Hopefully that’s an alternative to the get hit/get up/get hit loops you could get stuck in when dealing with more than one enemy in the first game, but I’m not holding my breath :/

    • http://www.facebook.com/keishenra Kyle D. Johnson

Wonder if they might add some of the other types. I remember that in the American Fenrir branch, there’s a character who has a Boomerang type God Arc. (Referencing the tie-in manga, of course. The Spear type existed there, as well.)

    • http://www.facebook.com/jazzlyn.lim Jazlynn Lim

I’ve cleared the Burst storyline…but the Challenge missions are (literally) killing me. I swear, some of those Challenge missions are harder than the entire freaking game.

@facebook-1164391073:disqus Yup. It’s the girl named Mizuki. The Boomerang also had a muzzle for firing bullets for some reason, though it can be used a melee weapon or thrown as a semi-ranged weapon. The guy with the Spear was Edgar.

  • KOKAYI5

I wanted the hand drawn version but this is good too. Flat out badass action. And in english, thanks JPN!

  • http://strictlyapathy.comoj.com/ SoulArbiter

    This. I want it!

  • badmoogle

This video is extremely beautiful. And personally i prefer this style.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

    Welcome back, Go Shiina.

Was that an aragami link aid I saw?  Because it looked like it…

  • Solomon_Kano

That…was in English? Huh. So…are they trying to send us a message about the chances of it getting localized? That would be nice.

Anywho, trailer was badass. Bad. Ass.

    • KOKAYI5

it’s it may have been just because using english is pop now in JPN.

      • Solomon_Kano

Hm…I considered that, but I’m just really hoping that’s not the case.

        • KOKAYI5

ditto for me man, I liked the game, but it seems like Soma and Kota aren’t in this one. Maybe it’s a decade later after they retired.

          • Solomon_Kano

Could be. Maybe we’ll see them in a cameo or something?

Actually, I dunno if it’s correct, but I saw somewhere that this only going to be 3 years after the first game. So…?

  • Kuro Neko

ahhhh~ this is so ossim, i loved the first one which, i have not beaten YET working on difficulty 10 XD but yeah, i like this trailer a lot, full of WIN and EPICNESS. I wants this game NOW *rage flips table over*

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Daniel-Morandi/100000837836996 Daniel Morandi

I still prefer the animation part made by Ufotable, I hate this kind of trailer and those design are ugly.

The trailar was bad not badass.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Zekushion Dylan Anantha

The Vajra got a link burst? Those Vajra’s are annoying enough without buffs…. Still, Boost Hammer and Charge Spear!

  • Palmer Nyako

    Nice!
I want a game exactly like god eater but with faster game play mostly with the sword slashing and the gun shooting. x_x Ugh, i can’t stress the gun issues, i dislike shooting a cannon, i would prefer something more futuristic and a lot faster. Same thing with the sword slashing, you’re taking a 2 second full-swing every time you slash… annoying.
I want a monster hunter-esque game in an urban setting like God-eater but more realistic with the combat, something fast paced like cod/shooter/final fantasy type o, but with rpg elements, why is this so hard Q_Q.

    -faster gameplay
    -better weapons
    -better party and monster ai
    -destructible/interactive environments
    -urban setting
    -Customizable characters(clothes, gear, etc
    -Multiplayer
someone make this happen -_-, seriously i can see an urban monster hunter-esque game making a lot of money on the Vita/Consoles x_x

    • http://www.facebook.com/jazzlyn.lim Jazlynn Lim

How about they make a PS3 God Eater with more stuff like ability/trait points, air combos and wall-running? :x

      • Palmer Nyako

        and faster gameplay?:DDD
every movement seems to take all your energy to pull off x____x, god eater is still very fun though :O

    • KOKAYI5

I want the stamina thing dropped. The monsters can attack NONSTOP but you get tired after about 3 swings and a dodge. Also instead of just shooting bullets, let’s add some unique character special attacks. A few more towns to visit. More voice attack by your character in story parts like at the end of the original.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001160605099 Anderson Boss

Yeah alot of people that i got into playing the game didnt like that i found ways through it what i really want is the bullet system to go away it made making a gun based character early very hard

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Abel-Liegod/100000072534559 Abel Liegod

Even though I would love to watch another anime trailer, I have to say that this one in CG is pretty awesome.
And I hope they make bigger areas and add more Aragami for this game, thats the only thing the first game lacked to me.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ayzumki-Sano/100002544819108 Ayzumki Sano

This is what games are made of. I’m so glad I’m a part of the PsP. This is going to be epic.

  • Sorrows_Neptune

I didn’t really like the first game. Something about it was just kind of…boring. The story was good, but the actual plot and characters were dull, and the gameplay was a bit too repetitive for my tastes. If they improve on all of those I’ll probably end up giving this game a shot.

  • monk_123

Not very fond of this CGI style. Especially, when it’s resembles so closely to final fantasy. Much prefer the more stylized and distinctive design from the first game. The animated promo from the first one literally gave me goosebumps in how damn good it was. ~_~

  • Darkrise

Yeah it definately feels like they’re trying to go for FF style… That’s kind of sad. Should’ve kept the anime style and improved the in-game graphics if that’s what they were worried about, as well as the camera angle. In fact, this game should be on the Vita.

  • shuratan

Admittedly the art direction seems to be going in a more cinematic “FF” style way and is quite different to the first one, it doesn’t make it look any less epic in my own humble opinion :x ..maybe I’m just a HDCGwhore

Wonder why they decided to go with a english voiced narration?

  • PrinceHeir

lol reminds me one of those capcom commercial where an english narrotr translate a japanese game :P

    pretty cool actually :P

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ricardo-Guedes/100000507969412 Ricardo Guedes

It’s a pity it will never ‘come’ to US.. why wasnt i born in japan, god?

  • eilegz

i hope that its more like FF and less like MH, i liked god eater, it has its flaws but kinda enjoy it its the first in the series lets hope god eater 2 other than art direction change they improve the gameplay which its kinda sloppy too MH like but with tighter control, the camera management should be improved with the addition of the second analog on vita, i hope that they also have more variety of missions, maps and enemies, the story was good not perfect compared to phantasy star portable 2 still lacks in many aspects but not a bad game and i hope to see improvements for this game

    • KOKAYI5

I too prefer an Action/RPG or RPG to an Action or Adventure game. And I hate one town hub style games. TRAVEL!

  • winn.3

    please come to north America

  • http://www.facebook.com/kismet137 Fanchon Chance

A sequel to my absolute favorite PSP game? Yes, please.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kevin.yalibmas Kevin Sambilay

    nice…^^

  • http://twitter.com/PolistarAE Polistar Redwind

I personally love the gameplay and with the lock system as suppose to the monster hunter free camera the camera is well done. The gameplay is good though a bit repetitive. I mean a mission where you have to help a rookie squad would actually be really cool if you had to escort them out and win. As suppose to “Kill these guys” Yes stamina was an issue, I had trouble being relentless to a foe without getting tired. More items is always a plus. A few things I can’t stress was the lack of Infrastructure. I’m not sure why that wasn’t added. Phantasy Star Had it right. Also perhaps adding more weapon types. I’m not sure what that guy had in the trailer but it looked somewhat like a lance. It did change shape into a bigger blade which is new. My biggest suggestion EVER that would change the entire game would be the ability to climb and fight throughout maps. I always wanted to be-able to fight one like rooftops and go all “Soma” on the monster. But overall I’m really excited for God Eater 2

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001160605099 Anderson Boss

So why are people complaining about the art style to me it looks damn pretty! And besides God eater 1 didnt even have that much anime cut scenes besides the opening! The CG honestly makes it a lot more realistic in a game that probably should look more realistic
