Pre Order Fate/Extra From Gamestop For A Special Fate/the Fact Booklet

Aksys are releasing a limited edition package for Fate/Extra, which comes with a 15-page Fate Visual Works art book and a soundtrack CD. This package costs $39.99 and will be released on November 1st.

If you pre-order the game from Gamestop, however, you’ll also get a Fate/the Fact 20-page booklet that explains the events of the world that Fate/Extra takes place in. It also contains an interview…with Rin Tohsaka.

Note that Fate/the Fact is only available to those that pre-order online, and not from retail stores. Here’s the cover of the booklet:

  • Exkaiser

Just a correction: The Limited Edition is $39.99, on both Gamestop and Amazon. The regular edition is $29.99.

    • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

Doh, typo. Thanks for pointing that out.

  • OneOkami

Looks like the preorder bonus that came with the Type-Moon box.

    • http://www.aksysgames.com ghostwoodradio

It’s a localized version, and unlike the one released in Japan, it doesn’t have a DVD so it’s a pure booklet.

      • http://twitter.com/Ale598 Ale598

Wait… a DVD? I’m pretty sure my Type-Moon Box Edition didn’t come with a DVD..

        • Nerroth

The Japanese edition of Fate/the Fact had a CD masquerading as a “UVD-R” (some sort of future storage medium) that included a clip of Extra Rin talking about… something. Not sure what.

  • http://www.aksysgames.com/ Akselziys

Everyone remember that the Fate/the Fact book is an online GameStop.com exclusive only ;D (for both the LE and standard editions)

    If you reserve it at a brick and mortar GameStop, you won’t receive the pre-order bonus XD;

With that said, pre-order away, my friends! :D

    • Ryos

I had a GameStop employee tell me that they had this at B&M, at which point another employee and I noted that employee was incorrect.  Anyway, this was the only reason I ordered this from GameStop rather than Amazon.  So I guess the exclusive certainly worked for them.  Hoping you all sell 90 billion (lol) copies so we see the sequel.

      • http://www.aksysgames.com/ Akselziys

Hopefully that ideal scenario will happen :D

        *Wishes*

    • JustaGenericUser

Man that stinks. You couldn’t ask Amazon, too?

  • Darkrise

An interview with Rin? As in Ueda Kana? Or just the character Rin. Cuz that’s just awesome. Also, just tried searching to pre-order on gamestop.ca and doesn’t seem to be there so does that mean Canada won’t be getting this?

    • http://www.aksysgames.com/ Akselziys

Unfortunately, I believe the pre-order bonus will only be applicable to GameStop.com and not GameStop.ca >.<

      I apologize for the inconvenience!

      • Darkrise

        Now I’m sad… =(

        • http://www.aksysgames.com/ Akselziys

We might have more as contest give aways later on, but don’t quote me on that XD

          • http://www.aksysgames.com ghostwoodradio

We can have contest giveaways for those who can’t receive the booklet (says this Marketing Manager)

          • Nerroth

Sounds promising, though probably not so much for those of us who don’t win said contests…

(Sorry, hard to avoid seeing the cloud on every silver lining on this one.)

      • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

        Worst news of the week ;_;

Oh well. I’ll still get the game.

  • nyoron

Man I hate these exclusive preorder bonuses… though I can’t really blame Aksys because I’m sure Gamestop has them by the balls. At least it’s not in-game content.

Definitely getting this game, from Amazon.

    • Ereek

Seconded, my order still goes to Amazon.

    • Ladius

Yeah, I imagine Gamestop has some kind of “well, a preorder exclusive bonus could move us to give your niche game some centimeters on our beloved shelves…” thing going on, we can’t really blame Aksys, especially considering PSP’s situation in the USA.

  • http://twitter.com/Laith_Rem Laith Rem

…So US only? I haz sad face D=

  • Historiata

The OP for Carnival Phantasm (via DannyC) already did a number on my opinion of the series, so I guess not being able to order from Canada isn’t such a downer -especially when you consider that the interview probably has no input from T-M and that the section on it will probably only be one or two pages of the whole thing.

Still vying for the limited ed though, don’t get me wrong.

    • Exkaiser

Hmn? Carnival Phantasm would hurt your opinion of the Fate series?

But it’s just a silly noncanon spinoff.

    • Luna Kazemaru

._. how did Carnival Phantasm hurt your opinion of the fate series its a OVA and more of a gag.

      • Historiata

Firstly Exceil, I would like for you to refrain from addressing me as “dude,” so kindly avoid doing so in the future.

Anyway, “leave fun to what was meant to be fun and leave heart-touching moments to what was meant to have heart touching moments.” I’ll probably end up writing an essay about why I think so, but let’s just say ‘Historiata’s just a bitter old hag who likes to find entertainment solely in the source material.’
        (/ ;n;)

EDIT: I stopped halfway through something I was tacking on this when I realized that I’m really not going to the right place for this, haha ha. Good news is SE won’t be hearing from me anymore, so you don’t even have to argue xD Anyways, the long and short of it: the story and characters are beautiful, and I find it heart-breaking to think that people want to see them in a significantly other way.

    • Exciel

It’s a completely gag spin-off dude. That’s a very incorrect way to get a grasp of the Fate and Type-Moon series.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1307850068 Anthony Newell

I remember seeing that magazine cover when I was in Japan last year. Cool!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_J24UY7QAEKQY576PHZYS3EN6BA Celine

Sorry Amazon, see ya later *throws out pre-order and orders from Gamestop*

  • http://twitter.com/ifarah12 Gren

    “Gamestop”

Yeah no, store preorder exclusives need to die

    • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

I think the issue here is mostly just GameStop.  I’d be perfectly fine if this were only available on Amazon.  At least they don’t shaft you.

      • Ryos

Amazon doesn’t tend to get many exclusives.  I’ll bet there’s some kind of backroom deal GameStop makes that nets them whatever exclusives.  And yeah, I don’t like GameStop either, but if there are exclusives that make it worth my while, I have to go with it. :(

      • http://twitter.com/ifarah12 Gren

Nope i’m tired of store preorder exclusives for every store, not just Gamestop

        • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

What about preorder bonuses in general?

          • http://twitter.com/ifarah12 Gren

Err damn the “your comment has to be moderated because you used the word $h!t” popped up so i have to redo my post

I dislike in game preorder bonuses because they make me feel like i’m missing out just because i don’t like to preorder (and because back in the day that stuff would already be in the game)

Stuff like Soundtracks and Artbooks are fine with me because even though they’re not my thing i’m not missing out on anything ingame if i don’t get them

Store preorder exclusives are the worst of the worst

          • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

Oh, I understand that entirely.  The only reason I preordered God Eater Burst from GameStop was the DLC that came with it… turns out that DLC was released on PSN later.  I felt silly after I found that out.

          • Historiata

Don’t think of it as something to miss out on, but a bit more of a reward for the people who tack on that extra support for the title being released -especially considering that they can’t always make the bonus available for everyone. (Except Atlus. They rock.) Their power is theirs to use and all that.

          • http://twitter.com/ifarah12 Gren

@Historiata:disqus Yes i agree completely.  What i do not agree with is cutting in game content such as costumes and sometimes even story scenarios and using it as a preorder bonus.  The correct way to do it would be Artbooks and the like, people who preorder shouldn’t have a more complete version of the game than people who don’t.  I’d rather have that stuff as DLC than preorder bonuses and i HATE DLC.

    • PrinceHeir

      yes screw gamestop

after the Deus Ex HR Debacle. already gave them a chance but blew it once more.

      amazon would be preferable :P

  • Brandonmkii

Sorry Amazon, exclusive goodies are my only weakness.

    • http://twitter.com/Ale598 Ale598

      I felt the same way…

  • FireCouch

    Nice butt.

  • Ladius

@Akselziys:disqus  I don’t see a preorder page for Fate/Extra’s L.E. on videogamesplus.ca, do you know if they’re going to stock it?

    • http://www.aksysgames.com/ Akselziys

I believe Canadian retailers will be stocking it, but they may not have updated their websites or placed an order yet.

I’ll try looking into it :)

      • Nerroth

Gamestop.ca now have the LE updated… but they have it at CA$54.99, which is a bit steep compared to the US version.

And no Fate/the Fact listed either.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

contact them saying there’s a limited edition of the game.

  • http://twitter.com/VietKnight Alexander Le

I wonder if there is a digital version of the game if not I might as well preorder it.

    • http://www.aksysgames.com ghostwoodradio

The digital version is going to be $24.99 on PSN.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

…Why can’t this apply to Amazon as well?

  • willtell

    A new low..

    Seriously……

  • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

Aww why just gamestop D:, the cover looks smeeexy xD

Wait, wait, wait! I can only get this “Fate/the fact” by pre-ordering the game ONLINE? I fully paid off a reserved copy for it the moment I hear that game is coming out soon!

I have the Japanese version and it came bundle with the Fact/the fact, however I cannot read Japanese. I hope that’s not the case, because that is ridiculous. Not everyone wants to order stuff online (well my parents don’t like order stuff online unless they have to) or can.

I do hope I can still get Fate/the Fact at my retail store because I’m not ordering it ONLINE just for an exclusive that should’ve been with the game if you pre-order it at the retail store as well.

I wonder if anyone is going to upload some videos of it for the people who didn’t get it because of this to learn more about the game. I really like to know more about the game’s world.

  • M’iau M’iaut

Oh ya like we buy doe-eyed innocent Rin…..

Why am I expecting all questions to be answered such. “You know sir, that’s a very noble question, which I will have to think on. By the way, noble sir. Where did you hear lies about my love for Shiro Emiya or what I think about any of those cheap wanton whore hussies he has staying with him?”

  • MrSirFeatherFang

I forget what kind of mail carrier is for the “free” shipping, but for me it’s horrible. My packages have always come damaged (I only order at GS if it’s something special too, which makes it worse.) I’ve only switched mail carriers on Atelier Rorona (the cost was $10 more, but for the sake of my product and research lol) and it arrived safely (besides the fact that the “game” won’t stay in the cardboard thing that was designed to hold it due to some interior damage).

So it’s not really GS’s problem, but a personal problem haha. Though I don’t like GS in general (extremely bad experiences, especially when I asks questions that only collectors or “real” gamers know). But they always find a way to get my money :(

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1592056013 Shao Cong Lim

Does this mean the LE from Gamestop will include the regular LE bonuses as well as the booklet? Or just the booklet only?

    • http://www.aksysgames.com/ Akselziys

The LE at GameStop.com has both the LE bonuses (contained inside the LE box) and the GameStop.com online only pre-order bonus booklet, Fate/the Fact :)

      • http://www.facebook.com/bryanjnleong Bryan Leong

So…is there any retailer that offers the booklet and the artbook, and the soundtrack?

  • Herok

i have no problem with gamestop maybe my store is one of the few good ones in the world but i have no problem ordering something from them over amazon since i can walk to the store easily + they dont hassle me over little things like preorders. so i really dont see where all the negativity comes from, except maybe the deus ex pc deal from a few weeks ago

    • Ereek

I don’t like having my new games opened and removed from their package.

I don’t like how in-store they sometimes “accidentally” run out of pre-order bonuses, with employees either taking them for themselves or them giving them away to another customer. I also dislike the idea of exclusive pre-order bonuses no matter the retailer, which, according to some publishers, are required to get their game on the shelf. I believe that Best Buy has started doing this with certain titles as well but in all honesty, to compete you practically have to do the same because GameStop has an almost-monopoly on pre-order DLC. The hole dug for gaming consumers gets deeper and deeper, as such.

Though I’ve a wonderful GameStop near my house, I will not shop there because as good as the store is, I’ve still encountered the above. I’m friends with the owner and because of that he’s willing to give me someone else’s pre-order bonus. I don’t like that one bit.

      tl;dr
      I dislike GameStop’s policies.

That said, I’ve not have any issues with GameStop’s online store.  They don’t even require you to pay the up front fee for your pre-order.

If I shop at a retail store, it’s Fry’s. They’ve never let me down with this nonsense, personally. Otherwise, I normally stick to Amazon.

      • M’iau M’iaut

Exclusives are the one bullet GS keeps in the gun to placate the hobbyist, otherwise they have largely distanced themselves from that customer. While I fully understand that players who buy select titles new and keep them does nothing for the ‘circle of life’, it is sad to see the largest  game specific outlet be a place that often discourages you to go in and talk about games.

      • Ryos

Those are my biggest (and significant) gripes with the B&M version of GameStop.  As far as the online version goes, the only real issues I have with them is I get fleeced for shipping and tax costs too, something I don’t deal with for Amazon.  Not really a huge deal for the random exclusive, but those extra costs add up (and the silly points program they implemented doesn’t really do a thing for me).

Edit: Actually, another issue I’ve had in the past with them was them mocking me for being into RPGs. We aren’t all Call of Duty/Gears of War junkies. It’s bad enough shopping in an environment where most of the shoppers are some 20 years younger than I. :

      • Herok

i always preorder my games so it would piss me off if they gave away my preorder bonus and i understand what you mean by not having your new games removed from package since when a new yugioh game comes out sometimes people will take the cards out the package because GS didnt bother to remove them. but only in cases like that does it bother me not to have a sealed game

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Steven-Pierre-Louis/667684607 Steven Pierre-Louis

odd that they don’t hassle you over pre-orders.  it’s a pretty big part of thier job to try to get you them.  maybe they just know you well enough over there.  I pretty much get a commercial recited to me every time I go there to get something.

  • dahuuuundge

I’ll get this from amazon as well. Even if that booklet looks tempting, I’ll pass buying from gamestop to make a stand against store exclusives.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Steven-Pierre-Louis/667684607 Steven Pierre-Louis

I’ll just buy it off Amazon.  The booklet will probably be scanned and posted online, and if not, it’s not that big a loss.

  • Nerroth

For those who aren’t familiar with the booklet, Fate/the Fact is written from an in-universe perspective, with a “publication date” of December 2032. The various articles named on the front cover are intended to provide some context to the broader world in which F/E itself takes place.

One thing that is worth bearing in mind; this is an alternate branch of the Kaleidoscope to other Type-Moon works. At the risk of skirting on the edge of spoiler territory, things are not quite what some of those familiar with other Fate timelines might expect; something worth bearing in mind both when reading this booklet and when playing the game itself.

  • http://www.facebook.com/bryanjnleong Bryan Leong

So…is there any retailer that offers the booklet and the artbook, and the soundtrack?

  • http://twitter.com/ChaseBurr Chase Bonner

imma go with amazon, i’d rather save the 4 bucks on tax, i would never read it anyway

  • Crimson_Cloud

Can’t order from gamespot so… I guess it’s amazon for me. By the way, I see everyone spelling Tohsaka but on that booklet it says Tosaka. Error?

    • Brandonmkii

Pretty sure the cover of the booklet is unchanged from the Japanese version. So it’s probably just Engrish haha.

  • LynxAmali

Might want to edit the title as it’s US only and Online. It hurts.
    Thankfully, I know moon.

  • http://twitter.com/Ale598 Ale598

Already pre-ordered. Dreams come true people.

  • Enma_Kozato

Huh. I’ve never pre ordered off the Gamestop site, I always went in person to the nearest store. Since I am a sucker for bonus items on top of limited editions I’ll go with Gamestop for once. At this point it doesn’t matter where I order things from since it’s going to take 5+ weeks for me to get things in the mail.

  • AzureNova

“Sigh” Now I have to cancel my Limited Edition pre-order on Amazon and get it at Gamestop -_- ^_^

  • http://www.aksysgames.com/ Akselziys

Just to update everyone, the Fate/the Fact booklet pre-order bonus is now being offered in Canada as well via GameStop.ca :D

So Canadians will be able to get the pre-order bonus too! (as long as you order online) :)

  • http://twitter.com/amikawaiiuguu catchouli meowledge

It’s a pity that GS don’t ship directly to Europe, but I’m sure I’d be able to track down the booklet on e-bay or another similar site.

  • Nerroth

There have been a few other updates of note for those here in Canada looking forward to the game; the standard edition of the game is now listed properly (and at the right price), the LE’s price has been adjusted, and it looks like pre-orders in-store will also get the booklet! (Hopefully that last part is true, and not just an error on the gamestop.ca website…)
