Chrono Trigger Is Headed To PSN Game Archives In Japan (For Real)

Last week, Sony mistakenly indicated that Chrono Trigger would be released as a PS One Classic for download on the U.S. PlayStation Network . While that didn’t end up happening, the game is being released this week in Japan.

Square Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto made the usual announcement over Twitter today.

Chrono Trigger will be available from September 28th onward, and will cost 1,200 yen.

1200 yen? Isn’t that a bit too much?

Yes it is, what the heck!?  CT is my favorite game of all time, but that is alot for a port.  I didn’t even buy the DS version until it went down to a reasonable price.

If I’m not mistaken, that’s the price of pretty much all of SE’s major titles in the PSN store. I do believe the FF titles that were originally released on the PS1 (id est, FF VII, VIII and IX) are even pricier, selling for about 1,800yen, if I’m not mistaken.

FF7/8/9 go for 1200/1500 yen, but in that case, I thought the official excuse was that they are multi-disc. FF1/2 both cost 600 yen. And Chrono Cross costs 800 yen. But for whatever reason, FF5 costs 1200 yen.

Looks like they are slowly jacking up the price. I’m calling moneygrab simply because they know they can get away with it. Mind you, wasn’t this pretty much the worst version of Chrono Trigger?

Yes, it was mostly because of the loading times. Oh, I really wasn’t sure about the 1,800yen price tag, but I was pretty sure it was a high price nonetheless. And yes, they do charge that much because they know they’ll sell the game nonetheless. That’s pretty much why Type-0′s regular retail version of the game costs so damn much, and same will happen with FF XIII-2.

I’ll be honest here, if I had a product and I was sure people would buy it, I’d raise the price so I could make the most profit….it sucks for us gamers, but it’s something that pretty much every huge company would do :/
