These obviously must sell over there in Japan. I swear 2 or 3 titles comes out every month. Not really my cup of tea though. I think they should make advancements in the gameplay aspect. Maybe girls there don’t like challenge in their games…

    • Altritter

Visual novels in general, not just otome games, sell in Japan. They usually don’t pull amazing numbers but they get back enough to cover costs and make profit most of the time. I agree that gameplay advancements would be nice, but if visual novels/otome games still sell over there, they probably don’t see a point.

There are a few that have some gameplay in em though. Real Rode Portable. Neo Angelique, and the Harukanaru toki no de series. Hakouki will also be getting a Dynasty Warriors type spin off and developers that make Sengoku Basara have mentioned part of the reason Basara series and DW series is somewhat less challenging than other action games is because 70% of the fan base in Japan for Basara for example, are girls.

        • puchinri

Basara must not be challenging then.

          • Gatchaman1

            It’s no Dark Souls :P

          • puchinri

            I’m sure a lot of games aren’t Dark Souls~.

Now that I think about it, SMT games are popular with female audiences too. Those probably aren’t all that challenging either. Among other games that pose no challenge (and yet have hordes of female fans).

Errr, I think you’re missing the point here. While there are lots of hybrids (mainly the Neoromance games, google it up if you want to know what those are), visual novel games usually have no gameplay besides the reading a ton of text and making choices to get different routes. And while there’s quite a few otome game releases, bishoujo games and eroge get far more releases. It’s the ones that are aimed at boys. Bishoujo games also usually have no gameply but have you read a ton of text and make choices as well – does that mean that Japanese boys as well don’t like any challenge in their games?

It’s also not like otome games are the only games ever played by Japanese girls…

Visual novels have their own level and different kind of difficulty, is way too obvious you have yet to play a decent Visual Novel, as so, is useless to try to correct you when you dont really know how these different kind of games are.

    • puchinri

Huge jump in assumption ftw, right~?

And I really want to know what these two or three titles are so I can look into them. x’D

      • mikanko

        lol XD

You really weren’t exaggerating about what we were talking about the other day.

        • puchinri

          Lol, yeah, this is definitely a time where I could sigh, smile, point and go, “see what I mean?” x’DD;;;

Coming from 5pb i imagine the story must be great. AHhh i hope 5pb PORTS THE STEINS;GATE DATING SIM VER. TO THE PSP SOON T____T

    • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

It’s being developed by Rejet and directed by the same person who directed Lucian Bee’s. 5pb are only publishing it.

      • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

Oh, so 5pb are not putting brain power into the game? anyhow, i dont think they would let any game be published with their game, so i imagine it still must be good (as in 5pb quality)

      • puchinri

But Rejet did handle Scared Rider Xechs, right? So that’s still a good thing~.

It is sad that I want the game and just goes so wrong with me lol. Just want the text translated not worried about VA since it keeps the originality.

  • puchinri

This is the same narrator from last time introducing the characters. ono
But the intro narrator sounds different. And I’m loving the music more and more.
